Chapter 232: Chapter 232: Refusing to Let Go (Part 2)
The man shoved her back, releasing his grip on Seraphina Sterling’s chin.
"I’ve told you over and over, the Jade Bracelet isn’t with me! That thing is completely useless to me! It’s brought me nothing but trouble, so I have no reason to keep it!" Seraphina Sterling was exasperated. She’d lost count of how many times she’d said it, but no one ever believed her. ’Is there something wrong with these people’s heads?’
"Quite a performance. Very convincing. If I hadn’t received some intel just before this, I might have actually believed you—that the Jade Bracelet isn’t on you. Then I’d put a bullet in you, send you on your way, and continue my search."
The man sneered. "However, I just received word that the Jade Bracelet is right here with you. Stop wasting time. Hand it over, and you’ll save us both a lot of trouble."
A chilling realization washed over Seraphina Sterling. If it weren’t for that so-called "news" that she had the Jade Bracelet, she’d probably be reporting to The Underworld by now. ’How could I be so stupid? If they believed I didn’t have the Jade Bracelet, I’d be useless to them. And for people who are useless, their go-to solution is a bullet.’
"Do you think I’m that stupid? If I hand over the Jade Bracelet, you think I’ll have any chance of leaving here alive? Not unless you let me go first!"
"Let you go? You wish! I refuse to believe you can withstand my methods!" A cruel smile spread across the man’s lips as he drew the pistol from his waistband and aimed it at Seraphina Sterling’s arm.
"I’ll ask you once. If you don’t answer, I’ll put a bullet in your left arm. The second time you don’t answer, I’ll put one in your left leg. The third time, I’ll double the punishment. But don’t you worry, I have absolutely no intention of letting you die. The moment you’re about to bleed out, I’ll have someone give you a transfusion. We’ll be sure to save that precious little life of yours."
Finally seeing Seraphina Sterling’s expression falter, the man with the gun felt a surge of satisfaction. "Ready? Now then, let’s—begin!"
Before the man could finish speaking, Seraphina Sterling lunged. In one fluid motion, she snatched the pistol from his hand, locked her other arm around his neck, and pressed the muzzle to his head. "If you want to live, tell your men to get out now!"
"You were hit with a tranquilizer dart, weren’t you? How can you still move?" It was because she had been tranquilized and was supposedly numb that he had let his guard down, completely dismissing her as a threat. He never anticipated she would suddenly attack. Who could have known things would turn so drastically?
"If I hadn’t been hit with a tranquilizer, would your men have even brought me here?" Seraphina Sterling said, flicking the safety off the gun.
"I’ll repeat myself one more time: tell your men to leave. Now. Of course, I’m a very patient person. If your men haven’t left within one minute, there’ll be a new hole in your shoulder. If they still haven’t moved in ninety seconds, your knee will get a matching one. And if, within two minutes, there’s a third person still in this room besides us, I’ll double the punishment."
Seraphina Sterling’s words were slow and deliberate. Her slender, pale finger was curled around the trigger, looking as if she might fire at any second.
She had thrown his own words right back at him. The man’s heart began to pound. Beads of sweat formed on his forehead. All it would take was for Seraphina Sterling to pull the trigger, and his life would be over.
"Out! All of you, get out!" the man yelled at his three henchmen in the room.
However, not one of the three obeyed. They remained in place, their guns still trained on Seraphina Sterling. "This whole place is surrounded by our men. Even if we three leave the room, you’re not getting out of here. Your only way out is to hand over the Jade Bracelet!"
