Chapter 234: Chapter 234: Resolutely Not Letting Go (4)
’The other three were sure of it—this girl had a screw loose. How dare she speak to king in such a casual tone!’
"I can accept that." ’It’s been a few months. She seems to have gotten a little taller.’
Everyone: ’...Is it really okay for him to give such a gentle reply? Where’s the dignity of Nightfall? Where’s the domineering presence?’
"The Jade Bracelet isn’t on me!" Seraphina Sterling had always trusted her intuition, especially when it came to danger. The feeling king gave her was complex—not just pure danger. He had gone out of his way to warn her about the Jade Bracelet before. Based on that act alone, she believed he wouldn’t kill her.
"Right now, everyone on both sides of the law knows the Jade Bracelet is in your hands!" king’s expression remained unchanged. He was simply stating a fact.
"That’s just ridiculous! Why does everyone assume the Jade Bracelet is with me? What’s the big secret behind it, anyway? It can’t just be about a promise from the Bosworth Family, can it?"
’Seraphina Sterling felt like she was going to lose her mind. If she’d known this would happen, she never would have accepted Zion Hale’s gift. Now she was like a tempting, fragrant cake that everyone wanted a piece of!’
"I think the most practical thing to do now is discuss how to solve the problem at hand," king said, his deep blue eyes flickering as he glanced at the bloodstain on her shoulder.
"Bro, you have to get revenge for me! This woman actually dared to shoot me?" Lott said, as if he’d just found his backbone, his confidence suddenly returning.
"You disobeyed orders and took on a mission without authorization. I haven’t even punished you for that yet! As for this gunshot, it’s just proof your skills are lacking." king had no intention of standing up for Lott.
"He’s your brother?" Seraphina Sterling looked at king’s handsome, refined features—a beauty that even she, a woman, envied—and then at the man in her grasp, who could barely be called handsome. She simply couldn’t imagine the two of them were brothers.
king nodded. "As much as I hate to admit it, that is indeed the case."
"Full brothers?" The stark difference in their looks made it hard for Seraphina to believe.
"Same father, same mother."
"Well, you’re quite the tragic case, then!" Seraphina said, looking sympathetically at Lott, who was still held firmly in her grasp. "You must have inherited all of your parents’ worst traits! It’s understandable that you can’t compare to him in terms of natural gifts. Your looks and intelligence don’t measure up to your brother’s. But how are even your combat skills so much worse than his?"
Seraphina’s soft voice, tinged with a hint of confusion, tore open the scars in Lott’s heart. As brothers, they were always being compared, and he was always the one who lost.
"That’s my business, it has nothing to do with you!" Lott snapped, suddenly ramming his elbow backward in a powerful strike aimed at Seraphina’s abdomen.
With a nimble sidestep, Seraphina dodged the blow. Lott successfully broke free from her hold, but at the same instant, Seraphina fired her gun at his elbow. The bullet passed clean through, and the smell of blood filled the air.
"I warned you to behave, but you just wouldn’t listen! This is what happens when you don’t." Seraphina’s face was a little pale. ’Now, she no longer had a hostage to use as a bargaining chip. The situation couldn’t be worse for her.’
"king?" Lott’s three other subordinates drew their pistols in unison and aimed them at Seraphina. All it would take was king’s order, and Seraphina would be riddled with bullets.
"Let’s have a match. If you win, you can leave safely," king said, as nonchalant as ever, even though his own brother had just been shot.
