Chapter 241: Chapter 241: Dowry (3)

"Um, the doctor specifically said you need quiet bed rest, that you need to relax!" Her watery eyes flashed with an accusatory light, making it seem as if Terrence Grant had done something utterly outrageous. The look made him feel rather guilty.

’Quiet rest? What doctor says quiet rest means you absolutely have to close your eyes and sleep?’ Seraphina Sterling rolled her eyes at him. She had just closed them when they suddenly snapped open again!

"I haven’t been home for days! What about my mom? She must be worried sick! Did you call her? Did Leo Jennings say something when he went home?" Seraphina Sterling was genuinely frantic now. She tried to sit up abruptly, which pulled at the wounds on her shoulder and chest, causing her to grimace in pain.

"Don’t worry. Hughes went to pick her up a while ago. We couldn’t hide it any longer. She should be here soon." Speaking of Kimberly Jennings, Terrence Grant couldn’t help but sigh. How to convince her mother to entrust Seraphina to him was a very serious problem.

Hughes was very efficient. By evening, he had brought Kimberly Jennings to the hospital room.

When Kimberly Jennings rushed in, Seraphina Sterling was still resting in the hospital bed. On the other side of the bed lay another living person—and a man, at that!

Hughes’s eyes flew wide. Faced with this scene, he was utterly at a loss for words. ’Young Master, couldn’t we be a little more discreet? This is her mother’s first time meeting you, and she walks in to find you sharing a bed with her daughter! Even though nothing happened, the optics are terrible! And don’t forget, you’re with Seraphina Sterling under the pretext of being her teacher!’

"Ahem... Young Master, Ms. Jennings is here!" Hughes couldn’t help but clear his throat a few times. Given the Young Master’s alertness, he had surely woken up the moment they entered the room; he just wasn’t showing it.

Facing Kimberly Jennings’s scrutinizing gaze, Terrence Grant remained perfectly composed, as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened.

"Teacher Grant, don’t you think you owe me an explanation? Why is Seraphina injured? And why are you in her bed?" Kimberly Jennings’s tone was unhurried, her eyes locked on Terrence Grant, demanding a clear answer.

Sensing Kimberly Jennings’s fury, Terrence Grant couldn’t help but feel his decision had been a wise one. He had waited until confirming Seraphina Sterling was out of danger before having Hughes pick her up. If Kimberly Jennings had arrived while her daughter was still undergoing emergency treatment, she likely would have wanted to stab him a few times to vent her anger.

"Ms. Jennings, as for why Seraphina was injured, I believe you know the reason better than I do. And as for why I was in her bed, it’s because I’ve already decided..."

"It’s because he’s been taking care of me for the past few days! Terrence Grant hasn’t slept for two days and two nights straight. He must have been exhausted, so he just fell asleep!" Awakened by their conversation, Seraphina Sterling hurriedly cut Terrence Grant off. She was terrified he was about to say something about choosing her or about marriage. ’I’m only eighteen! If Mom heard that, she’d probably march right over and slap him across the face!’

Terrence Grant’s sharp eyes narrowed slightly as he glanced at Seraphina Sterling. ’Not a bad save.’

Seraphina Sterling shot him a glare. ’Shut up! Don’t you dare bring this up!’

The two were exchanging messages with their eyes, but to Kimberly Jennings and Hughes, it looked like something else entirely. This was blatant flirting!

"Mom, you don’t need to worry. I’m fine now!" Seraphina Sterling offered a sweet smile, trying to ease Kimberly Jennings’s concern. "Why did Terrence Grant say you know the reason I was attacked?"

Kimberly Jennings’s brow furrowed, her calm gaze glinting with a wisdom born of experience. "Terrence Grant, do you have feelings for my Seraphina?" Her gentle voice carried an inescapable authority.
