Chapter 240: Chapter 240: Dowry (2)
"Was Simon’s death related to the Villet Family’s internal strife? Or was it about the Jade Bracelet?"
This was what concerned Seraphina Sterling the most. ’Simon was a sharp guy; he shouldn’t have been taken out so easily! It might have been possible to kill him if he were caught completely off guard, but he was already on high alert after that attack during the bonfire party on the final day of the conference. How could he have been assassinated on his way home?!’
Roy glanced at Terrence Grant’s darkening expression, a mischievous smirk touching his lips. "You seem quite concerned about Simon, don’t you? True, he was handsome, the youngest son of the Villet Family, and exceptionally capable... but you’re only eighteen and still in high school. You should avoid getting into relationships so young. It’ll get in the way of your studies!"
Sure enough, Terrence Grant’s expression grew even darker, and his gaze on Seraphina Sterling turned positively dangerous.
Seraphina glared at Roy, who clearly thrived on chaos. ’You’re doing this on purpose!’
"What’s so great about that little punk Simon? He has no height, no brains... and you call that face handsome? What terrible judgment! What kind of aesthetic is that? You can’t possibly have such poor taste!" Terrence Grant proceeded to tear the young heartthrob down without mercy.
’What do you mean, ’no height’? The guy’s only eighteen; he hasn’t even finished growing yet!’ Seraphina was too exasperated to even retort and decided to drop the subject.
"Since you know so much, where is that damned bracelet? Why does everyone think I have the Jade Bracelet?" She couldn’t care less about any treasure; all she wanted was for this whole chaotic mess to stay far away from her.
"When you had your accident, I had Mermaid spread the rumor that you had the Jade Bracelet." At the time, he had been worried that if her kidnappers learned she didn’t have the bracelet, she would be worthless to them and they might kill her. It was the only move he could make.
"I figured it was you. My point is, what do we do now? I can’t spend every moment of my life worrying about being kidnapped and interrogated, can I?" For the first time, Seraphina felt she’d stumbled into real trouble—trouble of a whole different order.
"Don’t worry. Leave this to me." Terrence Grant gently brushed a stray wisp of hair from her ear. "Don’t think about anything. The most important thing for you to do right now is sleep. Just rest and recuperate. I’ll handle everything else. I promise, by the time you leave the hospital, this will all be taken care of."
Seraphina’s big, round eyes flew open. ’It’s my problem, but I’m just going to let Terrence Grant solve it? Something about that doesn’t sit right with me.’
Seeing that the girl on the bed had no intention of sleeping, Terrence Grant simply placed a large hand over her eyes, forcing her to rest. "Patients shouldn’t be worrying themselves. Close your eyes. Sleep."
"Roy, the door is behind you. See yourself out." Terrence Grant was kicking him out. He wouldn’t be civil to anyone who tried to lure Seraphina away.
’So there’s a fierce leopard guarding Seraphina.’ It looked like luring her back to Nightfall wouldn’t be an easy task. "Remember what I said. When you get to Silvane, be sure to let me know. You know how to contact me!"
Even with his parting words, Roy didn’t forget to get under Terrence Grant’s skin—a high-profile way of asserting his own powerful presence.
From that day on, Silvane became one of the countries Terrence Grant would never visit. And of course, not only would he refuse to go, but he was also domineering enough to forbid Seraphina from going either. He was worried his girl would be snatched away by a certain eagle.
The hospital room fell quiet again. Her gently trembling lashes tickled his palm, feeling like a kitten’s tongue lightly licking his heart. Terrence Grant finally moved his hand from Seraphina’s eyes. Her large, round eyes flew open and she glared at him, her cheeks puffed out in indignation, silently scolding him for his tyrannical treatment of her eyes.
