Chapter 239: Chapter 239: Dowry (Part 1)

"Do you have a death wish? Coming to my doorstep to die?" The moment Terrence Grant saw king, the gentle expression he’d worn just moments before vanished without a trace. In its place was a sinister, terrifying look.

"Don’t worry, Mr. Grant. I just came to thank Seraphina for her help." King had already witnessed Terrence Grant’s terrifying power. The fate of Tony and his men was so gruesome that even hardened mercenaries couldn’t bear to look. You absolutely could not cross a man like this; otherwise, a tragic end was all that awaited.

"Seraphina?" Terrence Grant’s face, already as dark as the bottom of a wok, darkened several shades further. His voice dropped. "Roy, you aren’t that familiar with Seraphina. You can call her Miss Sterling, or use her full name, Seraphina Sterling!"

Seeing how fiercely protective he was, Roy decided not to press the issue. "Thank you for your help this time. If you have the chance to visit Silvane in the future, don’t forget to let me know. I can be your guide and show you the beautiful sights."

"That won’t be necessary. Even if she goes to Silvane, I’ll be with Seraphina. We have absolutely no need for a guide like you! If you have so much time on your hands, you should focus on cleaning up your own house at Nightfall. For ’king’ to be schemed against by his own subordinates... if word got out, you’d be a laughingstock!"

Seraphina Sterling hadn’t even had a chance to respond before Terrence Grant appointed himself her spokesman. He simply couldn’t stand the sight of Roy, and hearing him call her ’Seraphina’ so familiarly had sent him into a jealous rage.

"Getting tricked by his own men as the leader of Nightfall is certainly nothing to be proud of. But Terrence Grant, don’t just point fingers at king. You need to be careful, too. You’re also a leader. Don’t let a day come where you’re betrayed by your own people—that could be deadly! King was lucky he ran into me, and I was there to help. You might not be so fortunate! Betrayal from someone you trust most is the deadliest wound of all."

A deep sense of unease washed over Seraphina Sterling once more. ’In her past life, Terrence Grant was fated to die young.’

"Someone as brilliant and clever as me? How could I possibly end up like him, betrayed without even realizing it? Besides, you’re staying by my side for life. You helped king this time, so if I’m ever unlucky enough to have your prediction come true, you’ll have to help me, too!"

Terrence Grant put on his ’Mr. Grant of Aethelgard,’ ’Demon King of Chaos’ persona again—uninhibited, arrogant, and utterly condescending. Most people would find a temperament like his truly unbearable.

"You’d better pray something like that never happens. Pay more attention to your people. Find out what they’re thinking! Don’t just issue orders like a machine!" Even though she knew this spoiled heir act of his was just a mask, Seraphina couldn’t help but worry.

The silver-haired Roy leaned casually against the white wall, his arms crossed. A flash of understanding flickered in his deep blue eyes. ’Terrence Grant has feelings for Seraphina. Looks like luring her back to Nightfall will have to be a long-term project.’

"As a token of my gratitude, I can tell you something about that Jade Bracelet!" Roy raised his voice. "That bracelet is more complicated than it seems. Simon probably told you about its connection to the Bosworth Family, but that’s just the story on the surface. What I know is that it’s tied to a hoard of priceless artifacts plundered from Apex by various nations during a time of war."

"The Bosworth Family is the oldest conglomerate in Country M. The family’s history is as long as the nation’s itself, and they’ve accumulated wealth beyond imagination. Yet, even a family that powerful wants to get their hands on this Jade Bracelet to find where those artifacts are hidden. You can just imagine what a massive fortune those antiques must represent!"
