Chapter 244: Chapter 244: Dowry (6)
"Even without this business with the Jade Bracelet, you are still the woman I’ve chosen. You are destined to be Mrs. Grant and no one else!"
Faced with such a forceful and domineering declaration from Terrence Grant, a truly inexperienced young girl would have blushed, her heart pounding with shyness. But Seraphina was no such girl. Sweet nothings like that meant nothing to her. She only believed what she could see, not what she was told.
"Nothing in this world is set in stone. Don’t be so absolute. You’ll probably meet some mature, beautiful woman soon enough and forget every word you said today!" Seraphina scoffed. Her experiences had taught her that nothing was ever certain.
"Since you don’t believe me, then stay by my side and see for yourself if I’m true to my word!" Terrence didn’t get angry this time. Having been her tutor for so long, he had a pretty good grasp of her temperament. ’She’s so incredibly stubborn. Even I feel helpless in the face of her obstinance.’
"You’re injured, so you definitely can’t go to school. Do you want to take a formal leave of absence, or just sick leave?" Though Terrence was often domineering, he was surprisingly open-minded when it came to Seraphina’s affairs, always giving her the final say.
"Just sick leave will be fine. I’ll be there for the college entrance exams." ’I can’t delay my return to Aethelgard any longer! Besides, school is just a waste of time for me. I’ll actually have more free time in the hospital!’
"What about your grades...?" Kimberly Jennings sounded worried. For her, as long as Seraphina’s grades were good, everything else was negotiable.
"Don’t worry, Mom. I study on my own anyway. Just bring me the laptop from my room! Rest assured, I’ll definitely get into Aethelgard University! You just need to get ready to move to Aethelgard with me for college!"
Kimberly was worried about Seraphina’s health, but also her safety. With Terrence Grant around, at least her daughter’s safety would be guaranteed.
In the end, Seraphina took sick leave.
School was back in session, and the entire senior class was buried in intense review sessions. Seraphina, however, was lying in a hospital bed, her eyes fixed on her laptop, monitoring the stock market.
In the end, Habitat Architects failed to secure the project from The Grant Group. Before leaving town, Leo Jennings visited Seraphina at the hospital. He arrived just in time to see her working her magic on the stock market.
"Looks like you’re recovering well."
"I’m fine." After completing one last trade, Seraphina closed her laptop and glanced at him. "Took a hit?"
Leo’s expression turned grim. He had previously seen Seraphina trading and watched her sell off several stocks that were on a great run. He’d even felt it was a shame. But who could have known that just a few days later, those same stocks would plummet without any warning? He had sunk more than half his capital into them!
Meanwhile, a stock he’d been bullish on for over a month—one he’d kindly recommended Seraphina buy—had ended up tanking completely. He had originally planned to invest his stock market profits into Habitat Architects, but now, forget profits, he’d lost his principal investment too!
"Those stocks were doing so well. How in the world did you know they were going to fall?" If he hadn’t seen it with his own eyes, Leo truly wouldn’t have believed it. ’Someone can actually predict the market’s movements with such accuracy? It’s just unbelievable!’
"Intuition. If you’re going to play the stock market, you can’t be too greedy. Sell when you’ve made a decent profit. The price of greed is usually what you’re experiencing right now—ending up with nothing to show for your efforts." Seraphina began to lecture him. She had been a master of finance, possessing a thorough understanding of the market and its fluctuations. For the next ten years at least, making money would be easy for her.
