The abyss changed the moment Baal awakened, and every nested world inside its eye began to scream without making a sound.
Li Jiwen felt the scream pass through his body, entering his bones, his core, and the place where his soul should have been.
His countless clones vanished at once, leaving only his original body suspended before the enormous eye.
The sword of Li Ming had shattered in his hand, but the broken pieces remained floating around him like dark red stars.
The faceless white figure still stood inside Baal’s eye, its small body curled beneath the cage, watching him without a face.
Li Jiwen did not look away from it.
’Baal woke because I touched this figure, and the sword broke because it recognized something inside that cage.’
He thought that he had no proof, but proof was not always necessary when danger had already become obvious.
The darkness rushed toward him, carrying the force of countless collapsing realities, and Li Jiwen raised his hand against it.
His power erupted, forming a wall of golden light between his body and the approaching darkness.
The wall lasted for one breath.
Then it cracked.
Li Jiwen’s eyes became serious, and he summoned the authority of the Omniscient God realm with all his strength.
The golden wall expanded, spreading across the abyss and pushing the darkness backward.
For a short moment, the pressure stopped.
Then Baal spoke.
"You have touched what does not belong to you."
The voice entered Li Jiwen’s mind with exhaustion rather than anger, which was stranger than rage for an existence capable of crushing countless realities.
Li Jiwen looked at the eye and replied,
"You swallowed it, so I do not believe you can claim it belongs to you."
The white figure tilted its head toward Li Jiwen, as if it had heard something unexpected.
Baal’s enormous eye narrowed.
"You speak like a thief who believes finding a locked door makes him its owner."
"I am not trying to own it. I want answers."
"Answers are heavier than power."
"Then let them crush me."
The broken pieces of Li Ming’s sword suddenly moved, circling Li Jiwen’s body with increasing speed.
The red pieces connected in the air, but the weapon did not return to its previous shape.
Instead, it became a crooked ring of black metal, with a single red eye opening at its center.
A voice came from the ring.
"Do not speak for me, human."
Li Jiwen froze for a brief moment.
The sword had spoken clearly.
Its voice was rough, cold, and filled with the hatred of someone who had spent an eternity locked inside his own weapon.
Baal did not seem surprised.
"Li Ming, you still remember how to use a voice."
"I remember how to hate you."
The ring spun faster, and the red eye focused on Baal.
Li Jiwen felt the hatred of a prisoner toward the wall that had forgotten why it was built.
Baal’s eye moved slightly, and the countless worlds inside it trembled.
"You were not imprisoned by me."
"You were the prison."
The ring released a burst of red light, and a thin cut appeared across the darkness.
The cut did not attack Baal’s eye.
It opened a path toward the white figure.
Li Jiwen understood immediately.
Li Ming was not trying to harm Baal.
He wanted to free whatever was inside the cage.
Li Jiwen stepped into the cut, but the darkness struck him before he could pass through.
His body folded inward, and his red eyes became black for an instant.
He was thrown backward through hundreds of nested realities, passing through a world of blue fire and another world made entirely from bones.
Every world vanished as he crossed it, because his existence disturbed the dream that held them together.
He stopped himself with both hands, grabbing the empty space between two realities.
His fingers sank into nothing, and the nothingness became solid beneath his grip.
Li Jiwen pulled himself forward and looked back toward Baal’s eye.
The distance between them had become impossible.
He could still see the eye, but it was now smaller than a grain of sand, and the ring containing Li Ming had disappeared from view.
The white figure remained visible.
It was looking directly at him.
Li Jiwen wiped the blood from his mouth and laughed once.
"You separated me from the sword, but you did not separate me from the answer."
Baal did not respond.
Instead, the world around Li Jiwen changed.
The blue fire disappeared, the bone world vanished, and he landed on a flat white surface that extended in every direction.
There was no sky above him.
There was no darkness beneath him.
There was only a pale floor covered with countless closed doors.
Each door had a name carved into it, but the names were written in languages Li Jiwen did not know.
He walked to the nearest door and placed his hand on it.
A cold sensation entered his body, followed by a memory that did not belong to him.
He saw a young man standing before an ocean of black clouds, holding a sword made from his own spine.
The young man was Li Ming.
Behind him stood millions of people, all of them kneeling and crying for him to kill the sky.
Li Jiwen pulled his hand away, and the memory disappeared.
’These doors are memories, and Baal has sealed every memory that could lead toward the white figure.’
A soft sound came from behind him.
Li Jiwen turned around.
The faceless white figure stood on the white floor, no longer inside the cage.
Its body was small, but the air around it was heavier than the pressure of Baal’s abyss.
Li Jiwen did not move closer.
"You escaped."
The figure pointed toward the doors.
"I was never inside the cage."
"Then what was trapped?"
The figure turned its faceless head toward the nearest door.
"The part of me that remembered why I was born."
The answer did not make sense, but the words carried a pain Li Jiwen understood.
The white figure walked to the first door and touched it with one finger.
The name carved upon the door disappeared.
Baal’s voice thundered across the white floor.
"Leave it alone."
The figure ignored him.
The door opened, and a black wind poured through the gap.
Li Jiwen felt the presence beyond it, and his heart tightened.
It was the same presence he had sensed when his original body first died in the cultivation world.
It was watching him from before the beginning of his transmigration.
The system suddenly appeared beside him, broken and flickering like a dying candle.
[The host must not enter the door.]
Li Jiwen looked at the window.
"You can speak now?"
[The host must not ask why.]
"That means the answer is inside."
[The host must not remember the answer.]
The window disappeared again.
Li Jiwen smiled slowly, but there was no humor in his expression.
Baal had feared his sword, the system feared the door, and the white figure had led him directly toward it.
That was too convenient to be an accident.
The black wind rushed from the opened door and entered Li Jiwen’s body.
His vision turned white, and a voice spoke from somewhere beyond every world.
"Li Jiwen, you were never chosen to survive."
He heard the sentence again, but this time the voice continued.
"You w
ere chosen to remember."
The door opened completely.
Behind it, Li Jiwen saw his old room on Earth, his unfinished novel, and his dead body sitting before the computer.
Then the corpse lifted its head and smiled at him.
