Li Jiwen sat on the porch of his house, looking over at the sky like usual.
Hours turned into days. Days turned into weeks. Time passed, and he was just thinking and planning for his next move.
His mind, especially as a person of a modern world, was racing, trying to figure out what exactly he could do.
He had the knowledge of a writer who had read thousands of cultivation novels and written tens of them.
But now he understood that novels are not like reality.
In most novels, even smart ones, a lowly cultivator like those he had faced previously would not even dare to fight him or try a sneak attack.
But in this world, they were malicious. They were smart. They were people with minds and actual wits.
This was a real world.
He knew that if he truly did not do anything and just stayed in this place, the heavenly calamity would come and he would die and reset to the very beginning.
That was not what he truly wanted.
He understood that with his current powers and with his current mastery over his own cultivation and the techniques of cultivation itself, he was not going to stop that heavenly calamity, even in his wildest dreams.
Just over the past few weeks he had gathered some information about the heavenly calamities.
They were universe-wide catastrophic events that would wipe out hundreds of trillions of creatures across the universe!
The heavenly way uses these catastrophes to replenish the universe and the Dao.
Cultivators of all kinds are like leaches to the heavenly Dao, they consume the resources, fill the universe with karmic debts and ties, hatred manifest.
But the way of heaven is not silent!
The heavenly path, the Dao is just! It fills the deficiency and dissolves the excess, so nothing remains outside its eternal balance.
Li Jiwen said, "Well, that is indeed something. Looks like I made a mistake by choosing these things for the first life."
"I would have had greater chances if I chose the right things. All of that because I thought this was a game or something. But this is real life. This is happening. When the heavenly calamity comes, I will die. Everything will die..."
"The entirety of the universe of cultivation will die. And I am the main culprit. But what does that even mean? Why am I the one burdened with the fate of saving anything or anyone, and over and over will die? What a joke."
He stopped talking, looking at the sky again, understanding many things over the past couple of weeks.
Finally, words escaped his mouth.
"Well, I guess this is truly something now, but at least I have a cheat and I am not totally lost."
He sighed.
"I have put a plan that would probably help me greatly if done correctly, but after all that, I will just stay weak as I am in this life."
Sigh.
His plan was simple.
His mind raced, and he put it into a checklist.
He thought, the first and most important thing is to know what exactly he will do in the next life.
Choosing anything that was not of great usefulness is not just foolish but stupidity of some sort.
Understand that he cannot actually choose everything and anything he wants. That is the true shackle of this thing.
The fact that he cannot change anything means he is stuck with these things for 10 years.
The most important thing is that he does not choose something overpowered and lock himself out. Locking himself out would be the stupidest thing he could have done.
The things he will choose are actually very simple.
First, in the next life Li Jiwen will choose the Dragon God Seal, which can turn his bloodline into a dragon’s, a heavenly dragon that can actually reach beyond the same realm.
Then he will choose the Dragon Cauldron of the West, which he can use to make weapons, different techniques, different manuals, and even pills, all with the knowledge that comes with it.
The third and most important is a cultivation base. Nascent Soul is not enough. He needs something far more powerful, at least something of the seventh realm, so he can actually have a chance.
But if he choose something that reaches beyond that, it will be a waste in this life, and he will probably need to fight too much and lock himself out.
He knew that if he chose just one single thing wrong, he would lock himself out and die hundreds or more deaths.
His mind stopped racing.
He muttered slowly, "What I need now is information, knowledge of any sort. Knowledge comes with power and money. Now I already have some kind of power to be a local overlord of some sort, but I don’t have the money. So I have two choices."
"Either work for the money, or the easier and most prominent one in this world of cultivation: kill and steal and plunder. This is the way of cultivators. This is the way of humans in this rapacious and ever changing world."
Over the past couple of weeks, Li Jiwen understood the reality he was in at the moment.
If he truly stayed in the mannerisms of a young kid, he would not survive even for a couple of weeks more.
So he decided that he would impersonate a character of wisdom and wit.
As a writer who had written many smart characters, he knew exactly how to do that, so it was not too much of a problem.
But suppressing himself and his carefree self was not what he truly wanted.
Man wishes, and the heavens decide.
Li Jiwen finally got to his feet and looked at the sky as he heard the birds chirp in the distance.
A smile crossed his face. His golden eyes turned into arcs because he was smiling, his teeth wide open but still narrow.
He let out a laugh, "Well now, let’s plunder. Let’s hunt these cultivators and see what they have for us."
The world of cultivation and the cultivators themselves would soon know that there was a hunter coming for their wealth.
They would tremble, especially those of the lower realms, below the Nascent Soul realm.
Li Jiwen understood what he needed exactly.
He needed three things: money, experience, and most importantly, resources.
His face remained peaceful, and finally he disappeared with a single Void Step as his face and body changed shapes again through the heavenly concealment ring.
This time he would hunt the cultivators for resources.
Birds die for food, and humans die for benefits.
That was the rule of the world of cultivation!
