Chapter 580: Mandatory Class
Ding!
>Host has successfully called upon the Solarflare Affinity and unlocked free elemental control of said element.
>Scanning...
Ding!
>The following skills are compatible with the affinity and can be copied as personal skills, which will make it easier for the host to cast spells without much wastage of time and mana:
>[Fireball]
>[Fireball]
>[Scorch Burst]
>[Flamethrower]
>[Fireball]
>[Flame Orb]
Originally, Leo had planned to bestow these skills upon Naelith to make things easier for her, but since he wanted to try out his new personal element, he decided to copy one for himself.
Right now, there was no time for him to learn skills from scratch.
>Skill—[Flamethrower]—copied.
[Flamethrower] - Low 1%
Vroooommmm!!
Since Leo's palm was already aimed at the Gryphon, a torrent of fire burst forth.
But—
>[Flamethrower] - Low 1% -> 20% -> 60% -> 80% -> 100%
Ding!
[Flamethrower] - Mid 1% -> Mid 100%
Ding!
[Flamethrower] - High 100%
Ding!
[Flamethrower] - Peak 100%
Ding!
[Flame Torrent - Tier 1] - Low 1% -> Low 100%
FWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSHHHHHHH—!!
SKAW—!
The spirit Gryphon didn't even get to let out a proper cry before the flames literally swallowed it, but they didn't just stop there.
Leo's pupils contracted.
"Sylrael! Move away!!" Leo shouted because, the next second, the flame torrent widened in girth as though the pressure had suddenly increased. Its output became so intense and so scorching that the torrent travelled nearly 1 kilometre, bathing the entire area in an orange glow and incinerating everything in its path.
Somehow, his flames were caught by the wind and surged up the central wind column, instantly turning the turbulent atmosphere into a raging firestorm that illuminated the surrounding night. The entire 2-kilometre-wide dome lit up like a giant light bulb.
The men suspended in the air immediately began crying and wailing in agony as the scorching winds burned their skin while still keeping them alive.
Lily, who had been examining Agnivar's tough scales, had her eyes light up.
"Leo! Nice work!" she praised before manipulating the heated air and embers directly into the faces of the men mid-air, burning their ears, lips, noses, windpipes, and throats all at once. Now, even screaming was no longer feasible because their mouths were effectively sealed shut. She also made sure that none of their allies was harmed.
"God damn!" Leo immediately tried to lower his flame output by cutting the mana supply. The torrent was so devastating that he had to support his outstretched arm with his other hand, lest it shift direction and hurt Sylrael, who had trapped herself inside a dome made of hardwood not so far away from the horizontal column of solarflare.
Leo's single mistake of a few tens of seconds had cost him nearly 30,000 Mana units.
The reason the reaction became so extreme was that Leo had unconsciously exerted himself, thinking he would need to power the skill from scratch because [Flamethrower] was a low-level skill and its output would naturally be weak.
And he had been right, because when his mana flowed through the skill and it proved incapable of handling such overwhelming power, it immediately began ramping up to compensate for the increased output until, finally—
Ding!
[Inferno Torrent - Tier 3] - Peak 100% -> [Solarflare Torrent - Tier 4] - Mid 70%
[Solarflare Torrent - Tier 4] - Mid 70%
- A higher-order evolution of [Flamethrower] influenced by Solarflare Affinity. It is a concentrated torrent of blazing solar fire compressed under immense pressure before erupting into a devastating stream of searing flames. It incinerates everything in its path with overwhelming heat, relentless force, and explosive destructive power.
Leo was left speechless for a while.
"What the fuck...? Skills have tiers?" He also noticed that skills seemed to change tiers after crossing the Peak stage, which meant he was currently using all his other skills at the lowest possible tier—in other words, the weakest stage.
"Why?" Leo wondered. He had countless questions racing through his mind, but this wasn't the right moment.
Leo assessed the situation around him.
He was shocked by the extent of the destruction caused by the attack. Every plant and tree in its path had been burned to a crisp, while all traces of water vapour and ice had vanished into steam. Wherever the flames passed, the land became a barren wasteland, similar to the Ember family's secret realm.
Thud!
Sylrael broke out of the shelter she had made from hardened bark, the charred surface shattering apart on impact. Thankfully, it had withstood the searing heat of the torrent as it passed overhead; otherwise, she would have been incinerated just like the Gryphon.
Ding!
>Gryphon [Spirit] (Low 4-star) killed - No XP since it was a summon.
By now, Leo's attack had crushed the last of the men's resistance.
He told Sylrael to do whatever she wanted with the captives.
Afterwards, Elirin gathered all 6 men—those who had cornered her last time—along with the unconscious leader.
Sylrael even selected a few of the airborne men, whom Lily promptly dropped to the ground. They were the ones who had been talking shit before the fight began.
"Alright..." Leo said, watching the captive men slowly regain consciousness as the elves healed them.
He already knew these elves were infamous for attempting to castrate invaders who entered their realm back in the day, so he immediately figured it was best for him to leave.
"You people do whatever you want. Lily and I have other things to discuss." He looked up toward where Brok was.
"He will take you back to the territory when you're done." Saying that, Leo turned around just as Agnivar descended alongside Lily.
He completely ignored Brok's cries from the sky, who didn't want to stay.
The elves immediately stiffened when they saw a Wyvern.
"Relax. He's my new tamed beast. His name is Agnivar," Leo said, but that did little to reassure the elves as they gulped nervously. Only Sylrael seemed to handle herself a bit well under the draconic pressure.
Lily immediately walked over to Leo.
"Leo! They both truly are gentlemen. I approve of them."
Leo turned toward Agnivar as if confirming Lily was talking about him. Agnivar immediately looked away.
"Oh, right. Sylrael, meet Thalvyr. Our brand-new member of the territory, and he might be as strong as you... Wait, when did you break through to the Mid 4-star realm?" Leo had only just sensed that Sylrael had advanced.
"My Lord, thanks to your grace, while I was searching for the treasure plant you instructed us to collect, I gained enlightenment and ranked up."
"Nice. Your new strength will be very helpful for the territory. As for—"
Ting!
Ting!
Both Leo's and Lily's phones rang simultaneously.
>Mandatory class scheduled at 12:00, 10 March. Venue: Venus Hall.
Lily immediately bared her teeth after reading the message. It completely disrupted the plans she had with Leo.
"We're getting late! Leo, let's go!" she said, pulling him onto Agnivar's back while she sat in front of him.
"Agni, now, back to the territory—fast!" she ordered, and Agnivar promptly took flight.
"W-what about me...?" Thalvyr muttered, watching Agnivar's figure disappear into the night.
