Absolute Beast Dominion

Chapter 672: Spirit Amphithere

Brant unsummoned his eagle and floated at Tarun's location alongside Leo and the others.

"What happened? Weren't the kids supposed to defeat it?" Brant asked, seeing the serpent's mangled state.

"I didn't do anything. I just went sightseeing for a while, leaving the beast trapped in here. When I returned, I found out it had almost killed itself, smashing its head against the cage walls."

Brant looked at the beast.

"Not intelligent, then."

Tarun nodded.

"Well, it's a good thing. An intelligent draconic beast is almost impossible to tame unless they're too desperate."

After observing the beast's situation for a while, Brant asked, "How do we proceed, then? Heal it completely, have them fight and kill it, then summon the spirit to contract it?"

"Nah, let's just kill it. I am sure the girl will need to fight it anyway after it has been summoned in spirit form to contract it."

Leo thought about asking whether he could have killed it instead for the EXP, but refrained from letting the thought even surface, as it would risk exposing the system.

Saying that, Tarun raised his hand, and a big, intricate magic circle formed above him, through which the pointed edge of a huge icy sword appeared. It was slow at first, then rapidly accelerated and pierced through the Amphithere's head, killing it instantly.

The sword was huge, like a 20-meter-long body and a 2-meter-wide blade.

After that, Tarun simply waved his hand as the lodged icy sword started to shake and became covered in a dense white aura. When he pulled his hand, the sword was pulled out as well.

Telekinesis. Leo figured.

The pulled sword then floated mid-air for only a second before pointing at the beast's neck between the attached wings and shot straight ahead, tearing open its neck as the sword dissipated when Tarun cancelled the spell.

Blood didn't even flow out because the sword had frozen everything simultaneously while dissecting the beast.

The next instant, Tarun pulled out the almost meter-wide, whitish-blue beast core with orange veins, dripping with blood.

"There you go. Use this to summon the spirit and contract your beast," Tarun said while making the beast core hover right in front of Lily.

"Uh..." Tarun looked at the corpse of the beast.

"Kid, take the corpse as compensation for the late rewards given to your girl."

Leo didn't hesitate for a single second before floating in front of the corpse and touching it. Within moments, the whole corpse disappeared into his spiritual space.

He was always in need of meat, and nothing was better than High 4-star draconic beast meat. Not to mention, the mana crystals and, if lucky, a soul crystal of High 4-star rank would also come into his hands.

"Alright, before you summon it, take measures to stay airborne through your own ability. We won't interfere unless your lives are in danger," Brant said, and everybody nodded.

Leo used the [Sacred Physique] to make his body weightless. Lily formed a wind platform beneath her feet to stand on, and Kaelion went into free fall for a moment before summoning his Skyreaver to take to the skies.

Lily also summoned Lunaria as support for the fight that was going to ensue.

Tarun and Brant had already made themselves invisible so Lily and the others could focus wholly on the fight.

Soon after, Lily began the summoning process as the Beastcore started to sublimate in the surroundings.

The dispersing streaks of wispy essence revolved in the empty air and started to expand in the exact same form as the Wind Amphithere's corpse.

The same 100-meter body length, the same draconic face, the same eyes, the same scales, and finally, the pair of membranous wings originating from its back. An almost 100-meter wingspan, making the wings the same as the body length.

Normally, the wingspan would have been much greater, but since the Amphithere had a wind element, it used the same to help its flight, just with a smaller wingspan because larger ones weren't needed.

The only difference was that the beast now existed in spirit form, with a half-translucent body. But as Lily used more and more mana to complete the summoning process, its body started to solidify.

-17,500 Mana units.

That much mana was taken for summoning, and until the moment it was contracted, the beast would continue to consume the same amount of mana per minute.

Wind Amphithere [Spirit] (Mid 4-star) — Noble Bloodline — Temporary Summon

SHRIEEEEEK!

The beast roared, but—

Crackle—Boom!

The very next second, Lily struck it with black lightning right on the head. It had already rejected the contracting process Lily initiated, so she needed to subdue it now.

Crackle...

The spirit beast shook its head to wave off the residual effects of the electricity and flapped its massive wings to rise up.

But at that moment, Kaelion's Skyreaver descended with another thunder-based attack, launching it straight from the Skyreaver's beak toward the Amphithere's body.

Crackle—boom! Boom! Boom!

The thunderstrike trailed from head to tail, blasting at regular intervals that made the Amphithere lower its head and dive down.

But below, Leo was already waiting with both hands extended upward and a huge orb of flame prepared.

The Amphithere's eyes contracted sharply and prepared its own breath attack.

FWOOOOOOOSSHH!!

VRAAAAAMMM!!

Both released their respective flame attacks at the same time, but the moment the attacks collided, Leo's flames effortlessly swallowed the Amphithere's flames and hit it squarely in the face.

Thankfully, Leo reduced the intensity in time, or else the summoned spirit might have taken some heavy damage and could have even died.

Tsk, if Lily had that [Primordial Matriarch] talent, it would have been contracted without any fight. Heck, it would follow Lily's commands without even getting contracted... Leo thought.

I need to find ways to accelerate progress in our soulmate bond.

After that, he coated his fists in violet flames and shot toward the Amphithere.

But the spirit reacted quickly.

KRRRIIIIEE!

It immediately used wind to create downward pressure that cancelled Leo's upward momentum.

But Lunaria took advantage of the gap in its attention and charged from above.

At that moment, the Amphithere's eyes glowed.

And in front of everybody, the spirit's body became covered in raging, stormy winds. Soon enough, another pair of eyes glowed above the first through the swirling wind.

Those new eyes directly locked onto Lunaria and shot straight up.

And surprisingly, the original spirit remained in the same place as a clone made of pure stormy winds attacked Lunaria.

The clone's physical structure was exactly the same as that of the Amphithere, but its body was composed entirely of swirling azure winds.

And though its features remained recognizable, they were constantly distorted, with turbulent currents flowing around its body like a living storm.

But the thing was, Leo's system didn't react to the new being's appearance.

Meaning it wasn't a clone nor a summon.

It was a product of a skill!
