Chapter 69: 69.Feelings That Need Rediscovery-3

The moment the declaration faded from her head, her legs gave out, and she collapsed back down, her whole body drenched in a cold, heavy sweat.

Her earlier injuries seemed to hurt less. Her body started feeling lighter than ever.

It was as if the fat that didn’t even existed was burned in one go.

"Hmm?!"

She stared at her blood-soaked claws in disbelief.

"Why did I... ascend? Huh?! How can I ascend?! I shouldn’t have ascended!"

A second name.

It was an honor that would make her tribe treat her with utmost importance, she would become a warrior, earning the respect only few ever received.

But why now? At that cave? In that state?

Was that even possible?

Panicked, she remembered what she had been doing earlier.

She had been recklessly hunting, tearing apart monster after monster, slaughtering countless vexfangs while fighting alongside Milo.

It’s... it’s from that time!

She must have had absorbed a huge amount of Pran.

But... I wasn’t the one who was supposed to take all that Pran! Oh no... Did I...?

The horrifying realization struck her like a physical blow.

Did I steal the Pran that belonged to Milo?!

Maybe... maybe this is why he refused me!

Because I didn’t follow his orders to leave the kills to him!

As her hands curled tightly around her knees, her frayed sleeves slid back, exposing the grotesque, pale scars wrapping around her wrists.

"Ah...!"

She winced in sharp agony as her fingers accidentally brushed against the marks.

Her eyes widened in utter surprise.

Hmm? Why... why does it hurt now?

Those scars had long went numb.

The blood and dead skin had dried so thoroughly around them over the years that no matter what she did, she felt nothing there.

But now, just touching them made her wince from a agonizing, raw pain.

She tried to touch them gently again, but the skin throbbed like an open flame.

As the pain flared, a sudden, vivid memory flashed through her mind.

She yearned for the gentle stroke of Mylo’s fingers, the careful, tender way he had caressed those very scars.

Her eyes darted down to her feet.

There, tied tightly and securely around her legs, were Mylo’s shoes. Her fingers softly brushed the worn leather.

She hugged herself, trying to embrace the clothe he had wrapped around her.

She wanted to get embraced him in the same manner.

A single, monumental question popped into her head.

Even if I accidentally absorbed that Pran... if I didn’t perform any ritual related to my Sin, then how on earth did I ascend?

The moment the thought crossed her mind, Mylo’s face flashed brightly before her eyes.

She remembered him looking down at her so carefully, a soft, genuine smile plastered across his face.

Tritia brought both hands to her mouth. In a world painted strictly in dark reds and pitch blacks, a sudden, burning flush turned her cheeks bright red.

Loyal... Loyal to a Fault...

...I really wanted Mylo to become my master...

Even though he rejected me many times... I continued to go after him...

No way... Did I ascend because of my fixation on Mylo?!

Is that really possible?! Why was I never taught this?!

No, no... is this really reality? Someone tell me!

She squealed aloud to the empty cave, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird.

But if that’s the case then what’s our relation...?

He wasn’t her master. That much was clear to her. They had literally met that day, so it couldn’t be any tribal connection. They had merely hunted together, that too just for his goal.

What was the reason for her deep yearning for him? What was the relation between her ascendence and Mylo? What did Mylo think about her? Why, in that instance, he took all monsters on himself?

"I’ll... I’ll have to find out! HMM!"

She shot up onto her feet and blasted out of the cave, racing through the dark forest at a speed she had never reached before.

I didn’t need Mylo to officially become my master!

I even ascended to ’Loyal to a Fault’! What more evidence do I even need?!

I was so stupid! I was totally mistaken! The actual ritual never mattered!

I tried to force him into becoming my master! I didn’t try to know what he wanted from me, What am I to him?

I don’t want to just stay in my head and decide things!

I want to ask you about everything! And tell you everything about myself!

And reach a conclusion, this time, with you!

The face of Mylo before she had ran away was flashing again and again in her mind.

I’m sorry... I’m so sorry for leaving you behind! Please-

The moment she bounded back to the clearing she had fled from earlier, the horrific destruction made her freeze in her tracks.

The entire area was littered with the mangled, brutalized corpses of monsters. Tkerns lay everywhere, some with their guts gouged completely out, others severed clean in half. The thick, black blood hadn’t even had time to soak into the black soil yet, as if a catastrophic rain of dark gore had just poured over the forest.

Her face distorted, her red skin becoming paler.

No... no way... Did Milo... did he...?

Before the horror could completely take root in her chest, a deafening BOOM echoed in the distance.

Tritia sprinted toward the sound until she broke through the treeline, stopping at the edge of a massive cliff.

Looking out into the distance, she could barely make out a towering cloud of fine black dust and dark smoke rising into the air.

Hmm! Is Mylo over there?! Is he the one fighting?!

She scanned the landscape below. She had never ventured past this section of the forest before; the topography changed drastically here, giving way to an erratic terrain of sharp cliffs, jagged valleys, and murky swamps.

Without a second’s hesitation, Tritia leaped straight off the cliff.

None of her fear or doubts mattered anymore. Today, she would either find Mylo or die searching for him in this hellscape.

She dived straight into the chaos, into the frantic shrieks of Tkerns and the terrifying, echoing roars of the Nothrought.

And then, right in the thick of that madness, she heard it.

The roar of a voice, the voice belonging to the only one in her heart.

A wide smile spread across her face, her red cheeks flushing warmer as she charged headlong toward the sound.

Her pupils focused like a predator’s as the dense smoke parted, revealing Mylo pinned to the dirt, a massive, narrowing rod descending straight for his head.

Tritia let out a guttural growl.

Her small teeth bared like fangs and her claws stiffening in preparation to gauge out anything.

She raced down the slope at blinding speed.

With every ounce of strength in her ascended body, threw her leg out, kicking the hard arm cleanly off course.

CLANG!

The girl wrapped in red cloth reached her anchor. Her scarlet eyes finally found their glow.

She screamed, glaring down at Mylo.

"Hmm?! What are you doing on the ground?! Are you giving up?! Tell me!"
