Chapter 73: 73.Feelings That Need Rediscovery-7

"HYAAAH!"

She screamed, her ascended claws slashing in a wrist-deep X-pattern across the Bearash’s completely exposed lower torso. Her sharp nails sank deep into its navel, carving open its core.

Without pausing for a breath, she raked her left hand across the open wound a second time before plunging her right arm straight into its belly button up to her wrist.

shhhk!

"BRAAA...!"

The Bearash shuddered, its red eyes rolling back as its towering legs finally gave out, collapsing heavily onto its knees.

Mylo fell with it, crashing face-first into the dirt.

cough! cough!

His nose burned as coarse black soil invaded his mouth and throat. Pushing himself up on trembling arms, he coughed violently, wiping the grit from his bloody lips.

Mylo looked up. Tritia was perched directly on top of the Bearash’s dropped bone-shield, her claws embedded in the monster’s shoulders to pin its massive frame firmly to the earth. The red cloth wrapped around her body flutter in a very faint wind.

"You... you haven’t finished it yet?" Mylo asked, his voice raspy between heavy coughs.

"Hmm! Didn’t you need to get the kill?"

Tritia murmured, tilting her head as her blood-stained face softened.

"That was your goal, wasn’t it? Or do you not want it anymore? Tell me."

Huff... huff... huff...

Mylo stared at her battered, bloodied, yet strangely earnest face. A faint, exhausted smile tugged at the corner of his lips.

"Thank... thank you for this."

He tightened both hands around the hilt of his machete, leaped from the dirt, and brought his entire body weight down, plunging the blade straight through the Bearash’s exposed, mangled navel.

thump!

The massive body of the Bearash convulsed violently one last time, and then instantly dissolved, turning into a towering heap of literal black ash.

[Moderate Pran absorbed]

[Pran(240->256)]

Modest for Nothrought and moderate for Bearash? Also only 16... well it’s Tritia who did most damage.

His eyes moved to Tritia, her revealing body painted in blackish blood mixed with ash.

"Hmm... what should we do now?" Tritia asked, her voice raspy and worn out. "Tell me."

Mylo turned his head toward the lingering horde of Tkerns. With the Nothrought tore apart and the Bearash dissolved into ash, the remaining beasts had completely lost their momentum, standing frozen in a hesitant, uneasy calm.

"I need to use my recovery spell multiple times," Mylo said, his chest heaving as he wiped a smear of dark blood from his cheek.

"So, honestly... I’m really in need of some Pran."

The surrounding Tkerns instinctively flinched, taking a unified step back into the black haze as they watched Mylo slowly rub the flat of his machete against his shirt.

A faint, tired grin spread across his face, reaching from ear to ear, before he sprinted straight into the herd.

For the next few minutes, the clearing became an absolute slaughterhouse.

Working in synchronized harmony, the two of them tore through the remaining herd. Tritia moved like a seasoned hunter, using her terrifying speed and sharp claws to cripple and mutilate the beasts, shattering their legs, slicing their tendons, and leaving them writhing on the dirt. She never delivered the final blow, always stepping back to leave them barely breathing for Mylo to finish off.

shhhk!

thump!

Mylo followed right behind her, his machete rising and falling in a steady, used-to rhythm until every last Tkern lay silent.

Pran[370]

With his Pran reserves finally replenished to a deeply satisfying level, Mylo dragged his feet toward a smooth boulder and collapsed onto it, panting heavily from sheer physical exhaustion.

"So... I guess we need to look for a place to rest," Mylo grunted, wiping a thick layer of sweat and black blood from his forehead. "There’s no way we can make it back to the cave like this."

"Hmm... it’s too far," Tritia rasped, resting both of her blood-stained hands on her hips. "I can’t run that much right now..."

Her legs were visibly trembling, her frail frame looking as though it were on the verge of collapsing into the dirt at any moment.

Glancing up at her, Mylo caught her scanning the surrounding treeline, nervously trying to inspect their vicinity for any more lurking threats.

’’Use your skill from earlier.’’

Hearing his words Tritia looked thoughtful before saying, ’’Hmm. It shares my injuries, you will get them if I use it. Earlier it was emergency.’’

’’It’s alright. I have saved up pran. I can use my skill to heal myself,’’ although he said so, his skill only worked till a certain limit, after which it wouldn’t make any difference.

’’Hmm. If you say so,’’ she moved closer, touching him she muttered, ’’Mutual healing.’’

Mylo instantly felt his legs going numb, his lungs asking for more air and stomach dropping in void.

...This is what she is going through...no this is just a fraction she has shared with me...

He used sensory numb seven times, it stopped showing any efforts at that point.

Tritia stood beside him, he could still see her legs trembling slightly.

Without saying a word, Mylo forced himself off the rock. He securely sheathed the bloody machete at his waist, stepped directly up to her, and scooped Tritia up into his arms, carrying her in a bridal hold.

"Hm?!"

"H-Hey! What are you doing, Mylo? Tell me! No, put me down first!"

Tritia stammered, her face instantly burning hot as she squirmed in his grip.

"Oh, come on now. Don’t move so much," Mylo groaned, wincing as her sudden wriggling jolted his sore ribs. "I’m injured too, you know."

"Then put me down this instant! Why are you even carrying me?! Tell me!"

"Just wait a minute," Mylo replied, adjusting his grip as he kept his eyes locked on the rough terrain ahead.

"We should be able to find a place to rest soon."

’’Put me down first! Hmm! I’m warrior of Rommars! Show some respect!’’

She continued to swing her arms and kick her legs in mild protest for a few moments, but her thoroughly exhausted body quickly gave in.

She let her head rest against his shoulder, her breathing heavy and ragged.

Carrying her firmly in both arms, Mylo trudged through the dark landscape for about ten minutes until he spotted a natural shelter under a jagged cliffside.

A massive, thick overhang of rock extended outward, creating a small, covered alcove shielded from the elements on two sides.

Mylo stepped into the shadows, carefully setting Tritia down against the cool stone wall before sinking onto the ground right beside her.

phew...

"Uh... I guess whatever happened, we’re at least safe for now," Mylo exhaled, leaning his head back against the rock. "Hmm? Tritia?"

Not getting a response, he turned his head to look at her.

Her small, trembling hands moved slightly, her claws catching and tightening around the fabric of his torn shirt before her head dropped heavily onto his chest.

"Hmm... I’m sorry for leaving you behind like that!" she whimpered softly, her raspy voice muffled against his chest. "You must have had such a tough time! Tell me!"

Mylo’s breath caught in his throat.

Taking a long, slow moment, he leaned back into the dark recess of the rocks. Surrounded by pitch-black gloom, it hardly mattered whether his eyes were open or shut.

"Yeah... it was a really tough time," Mylo admitted quietly, his voice barely above a whisper. "Honestly... I’m kind of surprised I’m still breathing."

Tritia’s grip on his shirt tightened even further, her eyes shutting close.
