Chapter 76.On the hunt, with warrior comrade!-1Chapter 76: 76.On the hunt, with warrior comrade!-1
Closing his eyes, Mylo took a slow, heavy breath, then opened them once more into the darkness of the shelter.
Maybe my older self was right, he thought, staring at the cave ceiling. Maybe I really am just using her as a lousy excuse to force myself through another day.
But I don’t want to stop.
I don’t want to just let go.
It had been such a short amount of time since he opened his eyes in this terrifying, blood-soaked world, yet he had already connected with more people, felt more raw emotion, and fought harder than he ever had in his entire previous life. He didn’t want to give that up. He wanted to keep going. He wanted to keep connecting.
So, fine. Let’s use it.
Even if it’s a lousy excuse. Even if it’s just a false, self-righteous idea that I’m doing all this for them... or a pathetic coping mechanism to justify surviving for myself. It doesn’t matter.
Mylo pushed himself off the stone wall, his hand gripping the cold hilt of his chipped machete with newfound strength.
Let’s keep dragging this body forward... until the absolute end.

Deep in that oppressive forest, where the world knew no other shades than deep black and crimson, a massive, four-legged creature quietly chewed on the coarse black grass.
crunch... crunch...
Occasionally, its broad head would snap up, its hollow eyes scanning the gloom for any sign of movement. Its massive horns ruffled through the dark bushes with a low rustle before it lowered its snout to savor its meal once more.
thump.
Suddenly, the beast froze, its head whipping toward a cluster of twisted trees. It let out a low, vibration-heavy grunt and took a tentative step forward, peering into the shadows. Nothing emerged.
Uneasy, it abandoned the patch of grass and began to walk away, navigating through the dense forest barely lit by the eerie crimson tint filtering down from an unknown source.
It picked its way carefully through the dark before raising its head. Up ahead, several other Nothroughts were scattered across a wide clearing.
The large creature ambled forward, swinging its massive horns in a rhythmic, lazy arc as its heavy hooves pounded against the dirt.
As it approached the center of the clearing, three smaller Nothroughts that had been grazing near the middle hastily scattered out of its path. This one was noticeably larger than the rest, its thick hide covered in jagged scars.
With a low snort, the behemoth claimed the prime grazing spot in the center, swinging its horns once more before resuming its quiet chewing.
clack!
The massive Nothrought paused, a small chunk of dark rubble bouncing harmlessly off its thick hide. It slowly turned its head, glaring at a smaller Nothrought standing a few yards away.
Hooonn~
It let out a low, warning growl before ignoring the lesser beast and dipping its head back down to eat.
clack!
Another sharp stone struck it from the opposite side, clipping its shoulder. This time, the alpha beast bellowed a much louder roar, sending a wave of panic through the surrounding Nothroughts as they skittered backward.
thump!
A third stone came hurtling through the red haze, slamming directly into its snout just below its right eye.
Hooooooon!
The giant Nothrought exploded in violent fury. It let out a deafening roar that shook the surrounding trees, aiming its rage squarely at the small group of Nothroughts gathered in front of it.
Thumping its massive hooves into the earth over and over, it lowered its horns and broke into a full-blown rampage.
thump-thump-thump-thump!
Its immense size kicked up a towering cloud of dark dust as it charged headlong into the herd, moving with the bloodthirsty intent to crush and annihilate everything in its path.
The giant alpha slammed headfirst into the cluster of beasts, its massive, jagged horns plowing straight through their thick hides.
Flesh ripped like wet paper, tearing away deep tissue and spraying dark blood across the black grass.
Pained, chaotic shrieks echoed across the clearing as several Nothroughts collapsed under the hulk impact of the charge. The scattered herd fell into absolute disarray.
Before the alpha could turn to finish them off, another fierce roar erupted from its left.
It snapped its broad head around just in time to see the three smaller Nothroughts it had kicked out earlier.
Driven mad by the confusion and blood in the air, they were now charging straight back at him, rushing forward with all their strength to gore his exposed flanks.
CLACK!
The giant alpha locked its jaws tight, its hollow eyes flaring red as it turned to meet the madness head-on.
The deafening cacophony of panicked, guttural cries echoed throughout the entire clearing as full-blown madness consumed the herd. The massive alpha clearly dominated the slaughter, its primal instincts driving it to crush every lesser beast that entered its space.
But the others refused to break down and die without a fight. Swarming from all sides, they gouged their horns into the alpha’s flanks, carving deep, bleeding gashes into its heavy hide.
Hoooooon!
Bellowing a roar that shook the trees, the enraged alpha slammed its horns directly into one of the attacking Nothroughts. It thrashed the creature violently back and forth, dragging it through the dark bushes and ripping its flesh to shreds.
With a final, savage jerk of its neck, the alpha hurled the battered, dying beast across the clearing like a ragdoll.
But as it stepped forward to deliver the kill, a violent, bone-rattling shockwave jolted through its hind leg.
snap!
Stumbling sideways, the giant alpha grunted in surprise, suddenly finding it almost impossible to support its own immense weight on its left flank.
Through the haze of dust and blood, a two-legged figure emerged directly in front of the dying Nothrought. In his hand, he held the glowing, six-spiked antler of a Tkern.
Without a second of hesitation, Mylo raised the antler high and drove it straight into the wounded Nothrought’s exposed belly, tearing it wide open to claim his kill.
Seeing the strange creature snatch its prey right out from under its nose, the crippled alpha locked its bloodshot eyes onto Mylo.
Roaring at the absolute limit of its lungs as it lurched forward into a wild, angry sprint.
