Chapter 81: 81.Life that requires struggle-2

"-Ah!"

Screaming, Mylo swung his antler with everything he had, deflecting the creature’s narrow bone arm sideways.

Thucchh!

A loud bang echoed directly behind him. Wet mud splattered everywhere.

There was another one.

Both Mylo and Tritia were being attacked by two different Bearashes at the exact same time. Mylo had barely turned his head to check on her when a massive, shield-like bone hit him from the side.

SMASH!

"Aagh! Gaah!"

A painful grunt tore from his throat as the impact sent him stumbling. He forced his legs to lock into the mud, readying himself for another strike.

This time, the monster’s narrow, rod-like bone swung straight toward his chest, aiming to impale him right through the center of his body.

He frantically dropped down to his knees.

"Guh!" he screamed.

He felt the sharp, narrow bone rod scrape violently across his back.

Sensory numb! sensory numb...

Rolling across the wet ground, Mylo swung his antler straight at the Bearash’s legs.

From the corner of his eye, he caught Tritia leaping effortlessly through the chaotic attacks of the second Bearash.

Grunting with effort, Mylo scrambled to his feet and thrust his machete forward. But the Bearash snapped its dense bone shield into place, blocking the blade straight.

"Damn it, you fucker!"

Mylo swung again, but a sudden impact smashed into his flank.

"Gah!"

A sharp, searing pain erupted through his arm once more.

Yet another Bearash had lunged into the fray, its narrow bone arms plunging downward straight toward his head.

"Mylo, duck!"

Tritia’s leg lashed out from behind, kicking him hard out of the monster’s line of sight just before the strike landed.

From low on the ground, Mylo’s eyes grazed upward.

They were completely surrounded by three Bearashes, their towering frames encircling Tritia.

"Damn it!" he screamed. "Tritia! This way!"

Hearing his voice, Tritia launched herself toward him. But mid-air, the loose red cloth resting on her shoulder was violently yanked back by one of the monsters.

She was pulled backward, disappearing deep into the towering grass.

"No! Tritia!"

Mylo lunged after her, but his path was instantly cut off by an incoming bone shield. He barely maneuvered his body sideways to avoid the crushing impact.

He whipped his head around, searching frantically, but Tritia was nowhere to be seen, and neither was the third Bearash.

Now, he was completely alone, trapped between the remaining two.

"Tritia! Tritia! Tritia!"

He screamed in utter panic as the two Bearashes leaped at him, aiming with their elongated bone arms and heavy shields.

They swung savagely as Mylo stumbled backward through the mud. He managed to deflect one blow with his antler, but the second shield slammed straight into his gut. The air was knocked completely out of his lungs, leaving him gasping frantically.

"Mylo! I am all right!"

He heard Tritia’s voice cut through the grass, giving his unstable heart a brief moment of calm.

His eyes snapped back to the two monsters closing in on him.

"Damn it!" he swore.

He lunged right between them, intentionally prompting both Bearashes to strike at him simultaneously. Holding up his two-spiked antler, he braced himself to deflect the incoming bone rods. His arms trembled violently under the sheer force of their blows.

Sensory numb! sensory numb! sensory numb!

He chanted the command repeatedly in his head, weaving through the mud like a desperate animal being hunted for sport.

"Yeah... That’s it. That’s it!" Mylo screamed out in pure desperation.

The hard bone arm slammed brutally right into his ribs. The impact shattered his breath, but Mylo bit down on his jaw hard, ignoring the pain as he locked the creature’s elongated arm tightly beneath his own.

’’Bliss drain! Blissdrain! Balisdaren!!’’

He let out a raw, deafening scream at the top of his lungs and yanked the monster forward with everything he had left.

For a single fraction of a second, the Bearash lost its balance.

’’ArghAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!’’

Mylo’s roar echoed across the entire clearing. Using the momentum, he yanked the stumbling Bearash straight into the line of attack of the second monster.

CRUNCH!

An explosion of ash-like smog billowed into the air as the second Bearash’s narrowing hand drove straight through its own ally’s chest, shattering its hard chest in ash crumbs.

Mylo slammed his body forward, driving the Bearash back with every ounce of force he had left.

The gaping hole in the monster’s chest tore wider and wider, ripping straight down to its navel.

The moment the gash reached its center, the creature froze, its frantic movements instantly ceasing.

Even so, Mylo didn’t stop. He kept shoving with everything he had, a raw mix of agonizing pain and adrenaline-fueled excitement pouring from his lungs in an unending scream.

’’Haah! Aahh! AAAAA!!’’

The Bearash’s massive frame suddenly lost all form, disintegrating into a dense cloud of grey ash.

Bursting straight through the falling cloud, Mylo lunged.

The second Bearash didn’t even have time to track his movement before Mylo plunged his machete deep into its abdomen.

’’Take this bastaaaaaaard!!’’

Screaming again, Mylo threw his entire body weight behind the blade, carving through bone and flesh to puncture as deep as humanly possible.

The monster stumbled backward, wildly off-balance.

Without giving it a single second to recover, Mylo tightened his grip on his antler, raised the jagged spikes, and jammed them straight into the creature’s core, extinguishing its life once and for all.

Mylo stepped back, his eyes darting frantically in every direction as he locked onto the faint sounds of Tritia fighting.

He lunged in that direction, using his machete and antler like scythes to hack through the dense, towering grass.

"Haah...! haah...!"

Her strained breaths grew louder. The sound fueled his pace, forcing his legs to push faster through the mud.

Finally, the grass parted, and he caught sight of her.

Tritia was using her small frame to slip past the Bearash’s heavy attacks, leaping onto its bone shield before driving her claws straight into its face.

Gripping his machete with both hands, Mylo charged blindly from behind, driving the blade deep into the Bearash’s spine.

’’Hah!’’

He kept shoving forward with all his weight. The monster tried to whip its narrow arm around to crush him, but Tritia latched onto the appendage, digging her claws in and ripping the rock arm nearly completely off.

Both of them roared, pushing the monster through the dense thicket together.

Suddenly, the muddy ground beneath their boots solidified. They burst out of the tall grass into a clear clearing, slamming the Bearash hard against the earth. Mylo took one ragged breath, raised his machete overhead with both hands, and brought it down with all his force, shattering its core and extinguishing its life.

He looked up, gasping for air. Tritia collapsed onto the hard ground nearby, her chest heaving just as wildly as his.

Stumbling forward, Mylo wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close into a desperate embrace.

"Are you... are you all right, Tritia?"

"Haah... haah... Mylo, I’m fine," she panted, resting her head against his shoulder.

From that angle, her eyes widened. Mylo’s back was completely drenched in crimson blood, turning his clothes a dark, ghastly black-red.

"You... you have a wound on your back!"

"Ha... yeah," Mylo wheezed. "I’m going to use my skill... but can you use yours first? So we both get healed?"

"No! I can’t do that!" she protested, her voice trembling. "You’re too injured! Stop!"

"I’m all right. Don’t you know my skill? Use it. Quickly."

Tritia stared at him, bewildered, but under his desperate gaze, she activated it.

’’...Mutual Healing.’’

The agony racking her body instantly lessened. But the moment the injury transferred, Mylo’s body went completely limp, slumping heavily onto her.

"Mylo! Mylo!" she called out in a panic.

A faint, broken whisper slurred from his lips.

"Sensory numb... sensory numb... sensory numb..."

Slowly forcing his body to obey, Mylo pulled his machete from the dead monster and staggered to his feet. He shielded Tritia behind his back, raising his blade toward the edge of the clearing.

"You... you bastard!"

Mylo ground his teeth so hard his jaw locked.

"You were the one who set all of this up, weren’t you?!"

Tritia peeked around his side, her breath hitching as her instincts recognized the silhouettes emerging from the fog.

Heavy, rhythmic footsteps shook the ground as a massive frame stepped into view. Enormous legs crushed the earth with deliberate, slow weight.

HOOOOOOOOON!

A ridiculous, booming roar echoed through the clearing, vibrating straight through their chests.

Mylo bit down on his lip until it bled.

No matter what... I am killing you today!

Beside him, Tritia bared her fangs, her eyes narrowing in shared rage.

Crowned with massive, sweeping horns atop its towering head, leading an army of Tkerns the Alpha Nothrought stepped forward.
