Chapter 88: 88.Let this one become our ceremony-4

Kicking off the trees, Tritia launched herself back into the clearing. She stared at the giant through the wreckage, her eyes widening.

"Mylo... Mylo!" she stammered, but no response came.

Slowly, the titan’s body began to move. Slamming its right hand into the ground, Grimara dragged itself up onto its knees, unable to stand fully. Its face was caked in blood on one side.

Tritia bared her fangs, unable to see Mylo anywhere. But just then, her heart began to beat in a gentle, distinct rhythm.

Ah... Mylo, she thought softly.

A small groan escaped Grimara. The giant let out another roar, then another, bringing its right hand to its chest.

Its screams echoed across the Forest of No Shade as it pounded its own chest repeatedly.

Yet no matter how hard it hit itself, the agony wouldn’t stop.

Rivers of blood gushed from its mouth before it let out one last scream and collapsed backward into the water.

Tritia shielded her eyes as a massive wave flooded the entire area. As the dust and water settled, she saw the giant’s half-submerged body resting in the river.

Dropping onto all four limbs, she sprinted toward it.

Suddenly, a machete burst through Grimara’s chest, carving a wide opening.

Right beside it, an antler tore through the hide directly near the heart, causing a dark shadow to erupt from the hole.

’’Haah...! Haah...! It was you fucking heart! That wasn’t any weakness, you bastard! Haah...!’’

Mylo dragged himself out, spitting a mouthful of black blood. Shreds of raw flesh hung off his body.

The moment Tritia saw Mylo, she accelerated into a blur.

Seeing her bright red aura approaching, a smile touched Mylo’s face. His eyes fluttered shut, and his body fell forward.

Before he could hit the ground, Tritia reached him and caught him securely in her arms.

Mylo blinked his eyes open, his eyelids flickering before his sight finally settled. His vision filled with the ceiling, glowing with a very, very faint red.

...I’m back at the cave.

A quiet groan escaped his mouth. He lay motionless for a full minute, simply taking in shallow breaths and staring up at the red above.

No other thoughts crossed his mind. As time passed, he tried to move his left hand, but it felt completely numb.

Raising his right arm into the air, he looked at it, it was clean, though the rolled-up sleeves of his shirt were tattered and torn with visible holes.

’’hah...’’

He turned his head to the side and found the reason for his deadened left arm.

Tritia was sleeping soundlessly beside him, resting her head gently on his chest while his trapped arm served as her support.

The intense crimson glow he remembered was gone, her frame back to the smaller, familiar size he knew. Her sack was also back on her body.

Only her hair seemed slightly more vibrant in its shade of red.

Reaching over with his right hand, Mylo caressed her hair, softly stroking it and clearing the strands from her face.

He didn’t find a single trace of damage on her skin, it was completely clean.

As his hand brushed against her cheek, it felt cold and soft to the touch. He let his hand rest gently over her, gazing down at her sleeping form.

Then, reality crashed back into his mind.

...

[NOTIFICATION]

Daily quests pending!

Vexfang: 24/25

Time remaining: [0:10:00]

Damn it... I had completely forgotten about that.

He felt like breaking into bitter laughter.

All that struggle, all that life-or-death fighting against impossible enemies, and in the end, it was the weakest target he had failed to hunt.

Now what? The remaining time isn’t enough... how heavily will the failure penalty affect me?

A deep, heavy sigh escaped his lips.

’’Hmm~’’

At the sound, a low, groggy murmur came from Tritia as she began to wake. She rubbed her eyes with her small hands before looking directly into Mylo’s.

"Hmm... you’re awake," she softly mumbled. "I got such a really good sleep. What about you? Tell me..."

She nestled closer, brushing her hand against his chest before dropping her head right back onto him.

"I’d like to just stay here like this forever..." Mylo hummed faintly. She was really back to her Tritia that Mylo remembered.

"Hmm, me too..."

"I would also like to stay like this forever-" Tritia paused, her eyes snapping wide open as she sat up abruptly. "Oh, no! Wait a minute, I forgot!"

Mylo looked up at her in confusion.

"Hmm, Mylo, come on! Let me show you something!"

"Right now?"

"Hmm-hmm! Hurry, we might already be too late!"

Grabbing his numb left hand, she pulled with all her strength to get him up.

’’...’’

Giving in to her enthusiasm, Mylo forced himself onto his feet, his entire body aching and throbbing with deep soreness.

They had been sleeping on the makeshift bed he had crafted on the stone ground earlier.

Dragging Mylo out of the inner chamber and through the outer section, she led him all the way to the entrance of the cave.

Reaching the mouth of the cavern, she pointed eagerly toward a dark corner.

Mylo walked over and knelt down to see what she was pointing at.

"Ah?"

The sudden wave of shock instantly blew away the last remnants of his drowsiness. Bound in the corner was a living Vexfang.

Confused, Mylo turned his head toward Tritia.

"Hmm! I remembered that you had to hunt one more Vexfang to complete your goal," she said, puffing out her chest slightly. "So I grabbed one while I was carrying you back here. How did I do? Tell me!"

She offered him his machete. Stunned for a few silent seconds, a smile broke across Mylo’s face as he took the hilt.

"You did amazing," he said softly. "Really amazing... you’ve surpassed anything I could have ever expected."

’’Mmn-hmm~’’

Hearing his praise, Tritia bounced up and down on her tiptoes with a proud grin.

Mylo looked back down at the Vexfang. It wasn’t moving, but its eyes were still blinking faintly, it was already hovering right at death’s door. Quietly, Mylo brought the blade down, ending its life in a single clean stroke.

The second the creature died, the bloody-red system screen manifested in front of his eyes, displaying the long-awaited quest completion message.

....

[NOTIFICATION]

Congratulations!!

You have successfully completed the daily quest!!

Reward has been calculated!

10 stat points have been allotted!

....

It was finally over.

Standing up, Mylo felt an overwhelming weight lift off his chest.

He turned toward Tritia, reaching out his hand to stroke her hair, but before his fingers could touch her, another abrupt notification flashed across the bloody-red screen.

....

[NOTIFICATION]

The curse of Vespara has began sprouting!

’Tritia Rommar’ has been affected!

Penalty cancelled!!

Curse of Vespara will not be released prematurely!!!

....

Reading the notification, Mylo felt his heart stop dead in its chest.

The machete slipped from his numb fingers, clattering against the stone floor as he stumbled backward.

No... no, not now. Not again. Not with her!

What’s the point of completing quests if the curse just activates like that?

"Hmm? Mylo, what happened?" Tritia asked, stepping closer.

Mylo’s eyes darted frantically from side to side, grazing past Tritia for a fraction of a second before scanning the empty air for an answer he didn’t have.

The last time a message like this had appeared, it was during the incident with Reina, when the curse twisted her mind and tore everything apart.

He pressed a trembling hand against his forehead, clutching his hair just as another red screen materialized right in front of his eyes.

....

[NOTIFICATION]

The curse of Vespara has stopped!!

The level of emotion already surpasses the range of curse in ’Tritia Rommar’!!!

....

’’...huh?!’’

His eyes went wide, and he froze completely, standing as still as a statue.

Tritia continued to call out to him, her head tilting in genuine confusion as she reached toward his trembling arm.

"Are you hurt somewhere? Do you need my healing? As long as I’m here..."

He slowly shook his head.

"Ha... ha ha ha...hahahahaha!!"

A sudden, quiet laugh broke from Mylo’s chest, growing into a light, breathless chuckle.

Tritia remained standing in front of him, her head tilted, looking up at him with utter confusion.

Mylo slowly walked up to her, reaching out and gently resting his palm against her shoulder. Looking directly into her wide eyes, a warm, genuine smile softened his blood-stained face.

"Thank you," he said softly. "Thank you, Tritia. I’m so happy you are alright."

Stepping closer, he pulled her into a tight, protective embrace. His arms locked securely around her smaller frame, wrapping her tightly against him.

Tritia gasped softly in surprise at the sudden warmth. But as the confusion washed away, a gentle smile broke across her face too.

’’Hmm.’’

She closed her eyes and hugged him back just as tightly, resting her head comfortably against his chest.
