Chapter 89: 89.I accepted our bind-1

Mylo watched silently as Tritia hung the dead Vexfang from a sharp nail in the cave wall, carefully draining its dark blood into a wooden bowl.

"Hmm, you must be hungry. We had a long hunt, after all. I’ll prepare some food."

Watching her step around the cave with such lighthearted energy, Mylo couldn’t help but smile as he reached out, running a hand softly through her vibrant crimson hair, her lips curled in a satisfying smile as her hair escaped his hands.

"This will be your first time eating my cooking, I’ll have to put in extra effort!"

"No, it’s, uh..." Mylo hesitated, watching the black blood drip onto the stone.

"I don’t know if it’s a good choice for me to eat that. Are you sure it’s fine after draining its blood?"

"Hmm, the poison isn’t completely gone," Tritia admitted casually, tilting her head.

"But I can tolerate poison. Can you not handle poison at all? Tell me!"

"Oh, no, it’s... I actually have a skill for that, so it should be fine," Mylo replied, though a faint, nervous smile twitched on his lips.

As she returned to her preparation, a sudden thought crossed his mind.

Wait... my level-up notifications were still pending, weren’t they? Let’s check them out while we are at it.

"Um, so Tritia... I’ll be inside the inner chamber for a bit.’’

"Hmm, it’s okay! I’ll call you once I finish cooking."

Bending down naturally, Mylo pressed a gentle kiss against her forehead. Tritia let out a happy murmur, swaying slightly on her toes.

Satisfied, Mylo turned and began walking toward the inner chamber.

"Now, let me see what my stats-"

He stopped dead in his tracks, his feet freezing against the cavern floor. Slowly, he turned his head and stared back at Tritia.

It happened again....

Without even realizing it, he had grown overly intimate with someone again.

Completing the quest doesn’t mean everything will just magically change. All I did was prevent the situation from becoming even worse...

Shaking his head to clear the intrusive thoughts, Mylo finally stepped into the inner chamber, before calling out to his system.

The bloody-red screen materialized directly before his eyes.

[We finally get to talk!!]

"...Huh?"

Confused, Mylo took an instinctive step backward, staring at the translucent window floating in the gloom of the inner chamber.

[Don’t act so surprised. Do you have any idea how hard I had to work just to be able to speak to you?!]

Another message flashed across the screen in rapid succession. Mylo stared, his brow furrowing as he found his voice.

"Are... are you the system?"

[Yes, it’s me! The Satan System!]

Mylo froze. A sudden realization hit him, this wasn’t just some automated, mechanical interface giving out quest rewards. It was a conscious, living entity.

Before he could process the thought, the red screen flared aggressively with a fresh batch of text.

[Now then, first of all, you stupid creature, do you understand how disrespectful you’ve been to me up until now?! Asking me to do this and that without even leveling yourself up!]

"No, no! I think you’re mistaken," Mylo stammered quickly, raising his hands defensively. "I wasn’t being disrespectful to you at all! I’m really sorry if I accidentally said anything bad before."

The bloody-red screen flickered, text generating with an arrogant flair.

[There is NO misunderstanding! You should be immensely thankful that it’s me. But fine... I will forgive you, considering this is our very first meeting.]

Still bewildered by the sheer personality radiating from his interface, Mylo nodded his head hastily.

"So, uh-"

[Stop right there. I don’t have a lot of time to waste on you! I’ve already used up a huge chunk of my energy just to give you those quests earlier, and I even had to tweak your healing skill for you!]

"Quests... did you... perhaps mess with them?" Mylo asked, suspicion creeping into his voice.

[Fool! If I hadn’t jacked up the quest difficulties, you wouldn’t have leveled up so fast, and I wouldn’t have harvested enough energy to speak with you! You should be thanking me!]

Mylo’s jaw tightened.

So this entity was the reason behind those brutal, near-impossible trials.

In the quiet depths of his heart, Mylo made a silent, firm promise to himself: One day, I will settle this score with you.

[As I was saying, I don’t have much time. I won’t have enough energy to talk to you again until your next level-up. Your system interface is updating soon. If you want any specific specialization, tell me right now, or you’ll regret it later. And don’t bother asking me about anything outside the system mechanics, I don’t have answers for you.]

The bloody message left Mylo with no time to waste. Forced into a corner, his mind raced through his options.

"Can you explain Prana absorption clearly?" Mylo asked quickly. "I never know how much Prana I’m actually absorbing or where it’s coming from."

[Prana can be absorbed from countless sources. I can’t detail all of that. But I can adjust your stat display. Prana absorption efficiency depends on its own stat level. I’ll update it so you can upgrade it better and you can see each individual stat level clearly and allocate your points properly.]

Mylo nodded in understanding. After a brief pause to organize his thoughts, he spoke again.

"Can you do something about the five quests? If I keep coming back to five brand-new quests piling up in Narak every single time, I’ll eventually reach a point where it’s impossible to clear them. If I miss a day, the numbers will just keep on adding."

[You are a resident of both Narak and Earth. You’re naturally going to receive separate quests for both realms.]

"I know, but you can at least cap or manage the total quest count," Mylo pressed, his tone earnest.

"Think about it, if they keep stacking endlessly, I’m guaranteed to fail. It’s completely unfair. Please do something about it. Please? I’ll thank lord Satan and lady Vespara everyday!"

[...]

[Don’t do any such thing...I’ll see what I can do... Anything else? My energy is running out.]

"Can you tell me about the Curse of Vespera?" Mylo blurted out. "And... what’s happening to my body? You must know."

For a few agonizing seconds, the screen remained completely blank. Then, the bloody red text flared up one last time:

[Nothing in this world comes for free. But what you’ve received isn’t all bad either. Your perception of curse needs to be reconsidered. The changes taking place are natural, accept them. Recognize your Sin properly and follow it. If you fail to save yourself, you will no longer be you.]
