Chapter 8: 8.Trembling which sprouted Loveless-1

The brunette’s hand slipped off Braden’s arm as she snapped her head toward Mylo.

Her features were sharp and attractive, but her face contorted into a look of pure disgust at seeing someone else disturb her.

Vanessa Kade wasn’t used to being interrupted, especially not by someone who looked like they bought their fashion sense from a clearance rack.

She adjusted the strap of her expensive designer bag, her eyes narrowing into sharp a slit as she took a step toward Mylo.

"And who the hell are you supposed to be?" Vanessa spat, her voice dripping with an annoying, high-pitched arrogance.

"Some white knight trying to save a charity case? Back off and mind your own business, loser. Nobody asked for your input."

Mylo didn’t blink.

He kept his body positioned firmly in front of Reina, his provocative smile widening just a little.

"I’d tell you who I am, but I doubt your brain has the capacity to hold a new name and maintain your current attitude at the same time.

’’ Heh, and honestly? The only dogs I see barking out here are the ones wearing too much makeup, perhaps hiding your real features?"

A collective gasp rippled through the surrounding students. They were now more interested in this than before.

A few seniors near the back of the hallway laughed out loud, nudging each other. They seemed to have found their daily drama to enjoy.

"What did you just say, you piece of shit! You-" Vanessa’s face flushed bright red, her nails digging into her palms.

"Hey! Shut the fuck up before I-" Braden stepped forward, his massive frame looming over Mylo as his booming voice cut Vanessa off.

His jaw was clenched, his fists tightening inside his expensive leather jacket.

He was ready to physically throw this outsider out of the corridor.

But mid-sentence, Braden’s voice faltered.

He stopped dead in his tracks.

His eyes, full of malice, began to scan Mylo’s face. The sharp jawline, the dark hair, the slight tremble in the hands that Mylo was desperately trying to hide.

He had definitely seen this bastard somewhere. He began to search through his memory.

A slow, twisted realization washed over Braden’s face, followed immediately by a loud, mocking laugh that echoed straight through the intersection of the corridors.

"Ha..hahahaha!..Wait... hold on a damn minute...ha ha," Braden chuckled, turning back to look at Vanessa and the snickering crowd that had gathered around them.

"No way. Is that really you? Look at this, everyone! Vanessa, look at this joke."

Even though he invited everyone, no one truly understood what he was referring to.

Vanessa crossed her arms, still glaring. "You know this freak, Braden?"

"Know him? Babe, this is Mylo. Mylo Zane," Braden announced loudly, practically throwing his arms out to ensure the entire hallway was listening.

"The ultimate mama’s boy from my high school! The kid who couldn’t even breathe without asking his parents for permission first."

The crowd began to whisper, a few detached onlookers moving closer to get a better view of the entertainment.

"Man, I thought you died or something," Braden continued, stepping closer until he was breathing right down at Mylo.

"But here you are, still the same old pathetic, gloomy loner.

’’Tell me, Mylo, do you still spend twenty-four hours a day locked in your room, playing your stupid video games and jerking off to your own little world?

’’Does it feel good having absolutely zero friends? I bet you didn’t even have a single person to sit with during lunch.

The crowd muttered, some chuckling at Braden’s harshness, while others shifted uncomfortably under the weight of the cruel public humiliation.

Stop it. Stop talking. Just shut your damn mouth.

Inside Mylo’s mind, a familiar, suffocating darkness was clawing its way back to the surface.

His chest felt like it was being squeezed by an iron vice. His scalp went numb, and a cold, phantom sweat began to break out across his back, mirroring the exact trauma of his past life.

Why is his voice so loud? Why is everyone looking at me? They’re going to laugh. They’re all going to laugh at me again, just like before. The beatings... the rumors... the hell... it’s all starting again.

His body remembered the bruises. His mind screamed at him to turn around, to run back to his private rooftop flat and lock the door where nobody could ever find him.

He had heard these exact insults a thousand times in his past life, yet his heart was still reacting like a broken, fragile glass.

He wasn’t over it. Not even close.

I’m still a coward. I’m still that same pathetic loser.

But then, a clear, radiant image flashed behind his eyes, Miss Chloe sitting in front of him, her gentle palms covering his trembling hands. Her eyes looking gently over him. Her sweet smile sending calm waves into his heart.

"Which one frightens you more? The one who does nothing and runs away... or the one who tried his best?"

The violent melody in his heart suddenly settled into a cold, determined rhythm.

He couldn’t handle a version of himself that ran away anymore.

If he turned his back now, he would be surrendering to the dark timeline that destroyed his mother and broke his father.

I know that! I understand that! I realise that! But...! It’s still...!

Mylo dug his fingernails into his own palms, using the sharp bite of physical pain to anchor his mind.

No! Remember it! remember it all! This is nothing compared to what i have lived through!

He forced his caved-in shoulders back, locking his trembling legs into place. He didn’t run. He didn’t back down.

Instead, he met Braden’s mocking gaze evenly, his dark lips curling right back into that provocative, dangerous smile.
