Chapter 7: 7.Hearts that share fears-4

’Where did this come from?!’

Mylo felt a sudden jolt of hands of Miss Chloe. She tried to pull back her hands and break the bond with him.

But Mylo held her hand firmly, refusing her connection to break. She looked at him, smiling face replaced by confusion.

’’If there’s anything, please tell me. I might not be able to solve it right now, but I promise to always be there to help in any situation,’’ his words, sounding firm, were giving him a completely different vibe than before.

Miss Chloe felt that. But she could not form an answer, even though it should have been easy for her.

A moment passed with their eyes connected.

’’Hah, boys these days, trying to take any chance,’’ she freed herself, Mylo didn’t try to hold her back.

’’You just recovered and now are trying to act all that cool. Don’t forget that I’m still your teacher,’’ she stood up, not meeting his eyes anymore.

’’Don’t try to butt into an adult’s life, much less a teacher’s,’’ she turned her back to him, looking out the window.

’’Also there’s nothing like that for me,’’ her words were flat this time, like a machine uttering human speech.

’’I do not have any fear,’’ she said again.

’’I don’t fear anyone. There is nothing at all,’’ she confirmed again.

’’I see. Sorry for stepping over my line.’’ Mylo apologized.

She then turned to him, her face back to normal.

’’It’s alright. Thanks for caring for me. Now you should be going. As a teacher i can’t allow you to be late,’’ the message was clear for mylo.

He stood up and thanked her again.

’’Thank you for everything, mam. I will be taking my leave, have a nice day.’’

Chloe Vane’s heart skipped a beat.

She felt a striking pain in her chest.

Her hands behind her back were clenched tightly.

’’Mylo,’’ she called out just as he was about to leave.

’’Yes, mam?’’

’’I-It’s miss Chloe, r-right?’’

She could feel her face getting hotter and hotter, her ears developed a strong shade of pink.

Mylo smiled at her. He gave his own smile, ’’Yes, sorry for slip of tongue, it’s miss Chloe. Well then, please take care, miss Chloe,’’ this smile was the most outstanding smile she had seen on Mylo’s face.

He walked out and closed the door behind.

Unknown to him Chloe’s mind was a mess. She walked to the door and locked it from inside and collapsed with her head between her knees.

’No-no-no-no-nonono-no!’

’what did I just say to him?! Oh no! How can I, a teacher, say it like that?!’

’There is no way he didn’t notice that?! He didn’t think anything weird, did he?!’

’oh no, hell-no-no-hell-hell-hell-nooo! What should I do?! What should I do?!’

’Aghh!!! It’s his fault to begin with! Why did he suddenly called me mam?! Wasn’t he calling me miss chloe until now! Hamp! It’s his fault! Hammf!’

’’Still...when he smiled back...he looked so cool...’’ she whispered through her pouting lips.

’He is really strong, isn’t he? His heart was just clouded by his past experiences, but that didn’t mean it was weak. Otherwise he wouldn’t have even opened up to me’

As someone who dealt with these types of situations and people, she knew those who opened were comparatively easier to deal with. It meant they themselves wanted to change. The real trouble would have been those who couldn’t even say their worries.

’It just took him a little bit of self reflection and he recovered instantly. He would have probably been fine on his own.’

’His last question...do i fear someone...do i have my own fear...?’

Her shoulder trembled a little, so did most of her, as though someone had poured in cold water on her. She hugged herself tighter.

’Of course...of course...i...’

’... hey, Mylo...can I also be brave like you...do I have a fear that can make me brave..?’

’Mylo...if i ask you...would you really come to save me...’

In that room, Chloe vane, sitting on the ground, supported against the door, looked smaller than anything else.

Walking down the hallway, Mylo thought to himself.

You have helped me a lot, miss Chloe. I will definitely repay you.

I don’t know anything about your scandal.

Just now you appeared sad, very sad. If possible I don’t wanna see you like that.

If you are in trouble, I’ll do anything.

If what happened is the result of your own feelings, I will not stop you.

But I would not let your life get to any miserable state.

With his mind clear he walked towards his lecture hall.

Induction program was held at the beginning of the new semester to welcome freshers and give them the knowledge of workings of college.

It would include an introduction with many professors and seniors, and a tour of college. Along with all this, a briefing about their curriculum will be given.

As Mylo walked past several departments , he heard some loud noise coming from an intersection point of college corridors.

He approached and stopped as he noticed what was happening.

A small crowd had gathered . Some snickering. Some watching with the detached curiosity of people who didn’t want to get involved.

In the center of it stood Braden Vance, a brunette hanging off his arm, both of them looming over a girl meekly standing, looking down.

Isn’t that his girlfriend?

Mylo recognized the brunette right away. But he was having trouble recognizing the meek girl.

The girl wore thick round glasses, knocked slightly crooked. Her clothes were plain, mismatched, chosen for comfort over anything else. Her hair was pulled back in a messy bun, loose strands sticking out at odd angles.

He thought hard and finally remembered her name.

Reina Voss. That was her name, wasn’t it?

Mylo searched his memories more, but there was almost nothing there.

No cruel nickname burned into his brain.

No specific torment he remembered witnessing.

Just a name, and the vague impression of a girl who used to sit near the back of a lecture hall, always alone, always reading something under her desk.

Just a normal girl he would see occasionally in class.

The brunette laughed loudly, something about broke nerds and their broke fashion sense.

Braden joined in, louder, crueler, clearly enjoying the audience.

Mylo’s stomach twisted.

This is exactly how it started for me.

He remembered the shape of it now, if not the details. The crowd. The laughter.

The way nobody stepped in.

The way it snowballed from mockery into something far worse, week after week, until there was nothing left of the person being mocked.

If I don’t do anything, will it happen to her instead?

Not this time.

His decision was made way earlier.

He glanced sideways. The blood-red screen still hovered at the edge of his vision, patiently displaying his daily quest, waiting for him to act.

He still didn’t fully understand what he’d seen in that burning castle, or in Lilithia’s crimson domain.

He didn’t know what kind of monster had made a deal with him or what it truly wanted from him.

But this chance that you have given me, I would not just let it go to waste.

Please, receive my thanks for offering me this opportunity.

In his heart, quietly, he offered a small thanks.

To the unfathomable being on the throne.

To Lady Vespara and her burning kiss.

Whoever you are, whatever you want from me... thank you for this.

He stepped forward.

.....

[NOTIFICATION]

The Curse of Vespara has begun to sprout.

Nearby humans may become susceptible to Lust. Their thoughts and impulses may be subtly redirected.

.....

Mylo barely registered the words before he was already moving, planting himself beside Reina, angling his body to block her from the worst of the stares.

Braden’s laughter faltered, his eyes narrowing at the sudden intrusion.

Mylo met his gaze evenly, a slow, provocative smile spreading across his face.

"Wow. It’s only the first day," he said, loud enough for the whole hallway to hear, "and the dogs are already out here barking for attention."
