Achieving Demon Godhood from Unlocking Talents

Chapter 172 - 119: Inner Courtyard Provocation (2)

She stood there alone, a forlorn look in her eyes, lost in thought.

Finally, she looked down at her carefully chosen outfit, then at the Sai Wei sedan parked nearby.

Something people from the Iron Ring District might not be able to afford even after a lifetime of scrimping and saving was now hers for the taking.

But...

"Was I wrong?"

...

「Several days later.」

At high noon, a black SUV was parked near the main gate of Ring Academy.

Lu Chao, dressed in a black tracksuit, sat in the back seat and rolled down the window.

He had already put the meeting with Song Yuhan behind him. He periodically glanced at the light screen on his watch, using the time on his patrol duty to study the formula and relevant information for another Superpower Potion.

"Where are Fang Xu and Xiong Cheng?"

Chen Xiao, wearing a casual khaki jacket and carrying a plastic bag, walked over and asked in confusion.

The bag held four bottles of soda, and he handed one over.

"Went to take a leak."

"Xiong Cheng doesn’t know his way around, so Fang Xu went with him."

Lu Chao took the soda and explained.

Even Fighters have to answer nature’s call, which was perfectly normal.

"Haha, no wonder."

Chen Xiao chuckled and twisted the cap off his soda. "That kid’s adapting pretty quickly, though. He just always likes to drink water, so he has a hard time holding it."

"He’s doing it for the mission."

Lu Chao shook his head. He knew Xiong Cheng wasn’t just drinking water; some of it was a stimulant potion.

Their security detail wasn’t just during the day. Sometimes they were on the night shift and had to pull an all-nighter.

Not everyone had *Basic Fortitude*, and Xiong Cheng, being the weakest, naturally had trouble enduring, so he had to use stimulant potions to stay awake.

"True."

Nodding, Chen Xiao then added with a laugh, "Speaking of which, that Fang Xu guy is really something. He’s been powering through all this time without a single stimulant potion."

"I saw in his file that his Life Energy is almost at thirty. Plus, he was a top student in the Outer Academy. Honestly, aside from being a bit too formal, the guy’s genuinely excellent."

Lu Chao didn’t object, agreeing with his assessment.

In terms of Life Energy development alone, Fang Xu was indeed exceptional, completely on par with the core disciples of the major Martial Arts dojos.

It felt a little off to compare Ring Academy with the dojos, though.

But on further reflection, the Outer Academy enrolled at least several thousand students every year, like clockwork.

If you picked a few recent graduates at random, one of them might just be a Fighter. This was undoubtedly a sign of its profound foundation.

This was precisely why the major government sectors and super-conglomerates of Ring City always had a steady stream of new blood, allowing them to dominate the city. The same was true for the Alliance Country as a whole.

The two chatted idly for a bit, during which Chen Xiao brought something up.

"I heard that Legos, the one on the A-level wanted list, committed a string of offenses in the Iron Ring District a couple of days ago."

His voice filled with regret, Chen Xiao said in a low tone, "The Superpower Bureau tracked him down, and Leader Yan even intervened personally, wounding him severely. But unfortunately, other members of the Rebels showed up at the last minute and saved him."

"Oh?"

Lu Chao was a little surprised. He hadn’t expected this new development in the case.

"Just how many people do the Rebels have hidden in Ring City?"

He frowned slightly, keenly aware that something was wrong.

’What on earth is Earth Star’s largest terrorist organization trying to do?’

"I have no idea."

"But, my uncle told me..."

Chen Xiao glanced around, and seeing no one, lowered his voice. "This whole thing isn’t as simple as it looks. The Superpower Bureau supposedly lost something recently."

"It might be connected to these Rebels."

’So that’s how it is.’

Some of Lu Chao’s confusion cleared up. ’No wonder the Superpower Bureau and the Rebels caused such a huge scene during the arrest of Qiu Shan’s crew.’

’But...’

’The Superpower Bureau actually lost something?’

’What could it have been?’

As he pondered this, the two chatted a bit more, mostly about recent disturbances and cases.

Lu Chao glanced at his watch.

A good ten minutes had passed, but Xiong Cheng and Fang Xu still weren’t back.

"What’s taking those two so long?" Chen Xiao also sensed that something was wrong and frowned.

He was just about to call and check on them.

Just then.

BUZZ! BUZZ!

A watch vibrated, displaying a message.

He looked down, but it wasn’t his.

Instead, the light screen on Lu Chao’s left wrist was glowing, displaying a message from Fang Xu.

They both saw the contents of the message.

The next instant.

Lu Chao and Chen Xiao exchanged a look, their expressions darkening.

Without a moment’s hesitation, he immediately pulled two pistols from inside the car.

...

「Near a lawn in Ring Academy’s Outer Academy.」

Several lush green willows stood tall, their branches trailing down. Goldfish swam through the surrounding pond.

To the left, a classical-style corridor of red wood led toward a cluster of silver buildings in the distance. To the right stood a rockery and a public restroom built from gray stone bricks.

Outer Academy students occasionally walked past, passing through the area.

But soon.

When the students saw the path ahead blocked by a group of impeccably dressed young men and women, they stopped in their tracks.

Their gazes lingered for a moment on the badges pinned to the left of their chests, the symbol of the Inner Academy.

A look of fear crossed their faces.

They quickly turned and hurried away, as if they’d spotted a predator that couldn’t be trifled with.

"It really wasn’t me."

"I’m really not the one who stepped on this watch and broke it!"

An arguing voice could be faintly heard from the blocked-off corridor, but the fleeing Outer Academy students didn’t dare to look back.

Someone watching from a safer distance could see Xiong Cheng, dressed in an old, black jacket. His face was frantic as he pointed at an expensive watch with a shattered case on the ground, trying to explain.

"Not you?"

"Yeah, I was just passing by! It really wasn’t me..."

BAM!

Before he could finish, one of the Inner Academy students grabbed his head and slammed it into a corridor pillar.

Dizziness washed over him as a sharp pain erupted from his forehead.

Xiong Cheng opened his mouth to speak, blood trickling from his red and swollen forehead.

But before he could say a word, his attacker grabbed him by the hair.

"If it wasn’t you, then who was it?"

The one who spoke, a powerfully built young man, sneered. He was a Professional-level expert.

Despite appearing to have a size advantage, Xiong Cheng was dragged by his head, eyes wide and completely powerless to resist. His attacker forced his head down with such strength that his knees buckled, forcing him to kneel.

Meanwhile, a young woman watched the scene with a grin, taking the comm-watch from his wrist and appearing to scroll through it.

"Senior Lin, don’t you think this is going too far?"

Standing to the side, Fang Xu’s expression was grim. He started to step forward to help Xiong Cheng.

But.

"And who the hell do you think you are?"

SLAP!

Another Inner Academy student, also at the Professional level, slapped him across the face.

Before Fang Xu could react, a bright red palm print appeared on his cheek.

Humiliation. Shame.

Veins throbbed on his forehead as he gritted his teeth and glared at the other student.

"Fang Xu, you think you’re hot stuff now that you’ve joined the Patrol Department?"

The speaker was a young man with a buzz cut named Xu Feng. He had a cheerful demeanor, but now he grinned, revealing a row of menacingly white teeth. "Don’t forget, you haven’t graduated yet."

"Believe it or not, one word to my uncle, and I can make sure you never get your diploma."

He sneered, his voice a cold threat.

At these words, Fang Xu’s face flushed red, and the burning pain on his left cheek flared.

Without a higher education diploma from the academy, he couldn’t be officially instated as a Class-2 Patrol Officer, even if he was already a Fighter.

The other student’s uncle was the academic supervisor for the Martial Arts Department. It would only take a word from him to make things difficult for Fang Xu.

"Oh, Xu Feng, if you hadn’t mentioned it, I would’ve forgotten. So this is Fang Xu,"

said Lin Zhou, the one holding Xiong Cheng down. He tilted his head, his gaze lingering on Fang Xu’s face for a few seconds as if recalling something.

"Hey kid, I remember giving you a few ’pointers’ on developing your Life Energy, right?"

"What, feeling like another training session?"

He said with a malicious grin, one hand still pressing down on Xiong Cheng, who trembled violently but was unable to get up.

Anger flashed in Fang Xu’s eyes as images from the past flooded his mind—of being forced into the corner of a training room, balancing an iron plate on his head, and getting beaten repeatedly.

He clenched his fists and gritted his teeth, wanting to fight back.

But just as quickly,

his arms were seized and locked behind his back.

He lost his balance and was kicked down by the buzz-cut youth, Xu Feng, his face hitting the ground.

"If you want to graduate, you’d better learn to behave."

Xu Feng sneered, holding Fang Xu’s arms in a lock and sitting on his back.

He then ignored Fang Xu’s humiliated, teeth-gritting expression.

He looked up at his other companions, his gaze landing on the woman who had taken Xiong Cheng’s comm-watch.

"Xiaoyu, how’s it going?"

"Don’t worry, the message has been sent."

The woman called Xiaoyu, who wore a ponytail and an expensive white martial arts uniform, giggled.

Seeing this, the leader of the group, a red-haired woman named Mei Ning, nodded in satisfaction and gave a knowing smile.

The group waited for a moment.

Before long, as if sensing something, they all looked into the distance.

Two figures in plain clothes were hurrying over, following a security guard.

When they saw the scene, their expressions changed, their eyes turning cold.
