VASHKI VARIANTS — CHARACTER UPDATE

The Vashki are not a single uniform species. Their society is divided into distinct variants, each possessing different physical traits, social roles, abilities, and relationships with the mysterious rings that define their culture. Among the known variants are the Miwas, Oroths, and U’Kans. Although all three share the same porcelain-like bodies and silver blood, their differences are significant enough that they function almost like separate branches of the Vashki species.

MIWAS

Miwas are the smallest and most physically vulnerable of the three major Vashki variants, generally standing between five and six feet tall. They possess highly intelligent minds and are considered exceptionally gifted in areas such as science, medicine, research, mathematics, technology, and other forms of intellectual development. Their intelligence has allowed Miwas to become indispensable to Vashki civilization despite their limited physical strength.

Miwas are hermaphroditic, meaning they possess reproductive characteristics that allow them to fulfill either reproductive role. Unlike Oroths and U’Kans, whose sexes are individually defined, Miwas possess a more fluid reproductive biology.

Every Miwa is born with two to three rings.

The first ring carries an important cultural and spiritual purpose. A Miwa is traditionally expected to submit this ring to their god or goddess, symbolizing devotion and allegiance to their deity.

The second ring is different.

A Miwa may choose to submit their second ring to their spouse. This act carries enormous significance because the ring represents more than affection, it represents belonging, commitment, and ownership within the traditional Vashki relationship structure.

Because of this, the presence or absence of a Miwa’s second ring can reveal information about their relationship status.

If a Miwa is seen without their second ring, it generally means the ring has been removed from them because they were sold, claimed, or formally taken under the ownership of a spouse.

However, if a Miwa possesses their own second ring while simultaneously wearing another ring belonging to their spouse, the meaning is completely different.

This indicates that the two are life-bound partners.

The additional ring becomes a physical representation of their bond, effectively marking the Miwa as permanently connected to their partner.

Miwas possess the least combat ability among the major Vashki variants. Their bodies are not naturally built for prolonged physical confrontation, and they generally rely on intelligence, technology, strategy, or stronger Vashki to protect them.

Their vulnerability has unfortunately contributed to their declining population.

Miwas are currently on the brink of extinction.

Their reproductive biology makes the preservation of their species especially important. A Miwa pregnancy develops unusually quickly compared to humans. Within approximately one week, the pregnancy develops enough to produce a noticeable but subtle glowing bulge in the abdomen. The pregnancy continues developing upward for approximately three months before the Miwa eventually gives birth.

Because of their declining numbers, reproduction has become an extremely important issue within Miwa society.

Many Miwa partnerships historically involve U’Kans, whose physical strength and reproductive compatibility make them common partners for Miwas.

Yet the relationship between the two variants is not necessarily romantic. Miwa-U’Kan relationships can exist for love, political reasons, reproduction, social status, protection, or combinations of all four.

OROTHS

Oroths are considerably larger than Miwas, standing between approximately six and eight feet tall.

Unlike Miwas, Oroths are distinctly male or female. They are not hermaphroditic and possess their own individual reproductive sexes.

An Oroth is born with approximately six to ten rings, placing them considerably above Miwas in terms of ring possession.

Their rings are not merely decorative.

For the Vashki, rings function as extensions of the body, and an Oroth’s larger number of rings grants them greater physical capabilities than Miwas.

Oroths possess moderate fighting abilities.

They are capable warriors and can defend themselves effectively, although they are not considered the strongest Vashki variant. Their bodies are naturally more suited for physical confrontation, allowing them to participate in combat, military duties, hunting, guarding, and other physically demanding roles.

Oroths can form mating bonds with both U’Kans and Miwas.

This makes them an important bridge between the different Vashki variants, particularly within relationships and family structures.

Their larger physical stature also gives them an advantage over Miwas in terms of endurance and strength, although they remain significantly weaker than U’Kans.

Oroths therefore occupy something of a middle ground within Vashki society.

They possess enough physical ability to fight.

They possess enough rings to wield abilities unavailable to Miwas.

Yet they lack the overwhelming strength associated with the U’Kan variant.

U’KANS

Standing at approximately nine feet tall, U’Kans are the largest and physically strongest of the major Vashki variants.

They are imposing even among other Vashkis, their enormous bodies and extensive collection of rings making them immediately recognizable.

An U’Kan can possess twenty or more rings.

This enormous number of rings is directly connected to their abilities.

U’Kans possess the greatest fighting abilities among the Vashki variants. Their bodies are naturally adapted for combat, allowing them to overpower opponents through raw strength, speed, durability, and the abilities granted by their rings.

But physical strength is not their most terrifying characteristic.

U’Kans can manipulate gravity through their rings.

By activating their rings, an U’Kan can alter the gravitational force surrounding themselves or their target. This allows them to pin opponents to the ground, increase the weight of objects, manipulate movement, or potentially suspend bodies entirely.

The greater the U’Kan’s mastery over their rings, the more precise their manipulation can become.

This ability makes U’Kans exceptionally dangerous opponents.

A human soldier might expect to fight an enormous creature through conventional means like guns, armor, physical strength, or numbers.

Against an experienced U’Kan, conventional combat becomes far more complicated.

An opponent may find their body suddenly too heavy to move.

Their weapon may become impossible to lift.

Their feet may leave the ground.

Or they may be crushed beneath an invisible force before they ever get close enough to strike.

U’Kans can mate with both Miwas and Oroths, making them significant within Vashki family structures and reproductive relationships.

Because Miwas are endangered, U’Kan-Miwa partnerships can carry particular social importance, especially when reproduction is involved.

However, U’Kans are not simply defined by their strength.

Their large number of rings also means they possess a greater connection to the physical and spiritual systems that govern Vashki society.

Among the three variants, the hierarchy is therefore fairly apparent:

Miwas possess the greatest intellectual potential but the weakest physical abilities.

Oroths occupy the middle ground, possessing greater strength and combat ability while maintaining compatibility with both other variants.

U’Kans possess the greatest physical strength, the most rings, the strongest combat abilities, and the unique capacity to manipulate gravity.

Despite these differences, all three variants remain Vashki.

Their rings, their porcelain bodies, their silver blood, and the customs surrounding bonds and mating connect them to the same ancient civilization.
