Chapter 125: Chapter 123: Three Pure Ones Lake

Escaping uphill would lead to the safe house and draw the Leopard Woman back there. Feng Ling could only run downhill, toward Fox Village.

She had Huangfu Miaomiao and Baozi run ahead while she brought up the rear.

The good news was that the strategy of attacking its hind legs had worked. The Leopard Woman’s speed had noticeably decreased.

The bad news was that her gun was out of bullets, and she had used up all her grenades.

"Baozi, are you using Lucky Heaven’s ability?" Feng Ling asked as she ran.

Baozi gasped for breath. "No! I only use it when it’s about to attack you... I-Isn’t it still far away right now?"

Feng Ling glanced back at the enormous shadow closing in from behind. "Its Spiritual Suppression doesn’t seem as strong as before."

If the Spiritual Suppression of The Queen Mother of the West was a giant block of ice, it would be constantly radiating a cold aura of "fear." From a distance, you would feel fear and panic, but not enough to immobilize you. Get too close, however, and you would be frozen stiff, too terrified to move a muscle.

Feng Ling had been contending with the Leopard Woman this whole time, using the intensity of the fear in her heart to judge the distance between them.

But now, she could clearly hear the thud of its bestial feet on the ground, yet the fear she felt was at least a third weaker than before.

Baozi called out from ahead, "Maybe... maybe it’s injured and weak, so its Spiritual Suppression got weaker too."

"Wait...!" Feng Ling stopped abruptly, her brow furrowing.

She couldn’t hear the Leopard Woman’s footsteps anymore.

Baozi’s heart skipped a beat. Before he could speak, Huangfu Miaomiao had already tossed over a large cabbage.

Feng Ling caught it swiftly, tossed her empty gun to Baozi, then held the large cabbage with both hands and peeled back a few leaves to reveal the purple fruit inside.

The sweet fragrance of the fruit immediately wafted out.

"Give me all the remaining grenades. Later, you two can go collect my body by the lake."

Feng Ling took a quick bite of the purple fruit, letting the scent spread even further. Then she grabbed the backpack Baozi handed her and bolted down the mountain.

Mere seconds after she left, Huangfu Miaomiao and Baozi felt a terrifying presence closing in!

The Queen Mother of the West had smelled the fruit and was drawn over!

It came so fast that Huangfu Miaomiao and Baozi didn’t even have time to find cover before the massive half-human, half-beast creature flashed past them in a blur—

The monster paid them no mind, heading straight for Feng Ling!

A few seconds later, they heard a grenade explode, followed by an enraged roar.

Baozi’s face was ashen. He looked at Huangfu Miaomiao, his heart in his throat. "...The lake?"

Huangfu Miaomiao said worriedly, "We should hurry over too. Three Pure Ones Lake is just past Fox Village."

"Okay..." Baozi gasped, bracing his hands on his wobbly knees. "Let’s... let’s hurry."

Going uphill was exhausting, but coming down wasn’t easy either. Both drained an immense amount of stamina, to say nothing of how rugged and difficult to navigate the mountain paths were.

Feng Ling ran and leaped, constantly mindful of her footing and dodging obstacles, her knees aching and numb.

The Leopard Woman’s relentless pursuit was proof enough of the purple fruit’s importance to the Maze Master.

She was going through the grenades at an alarming rate.

Only a few were left from the large pouch of grenades Baozi had given her.

What was worse, as she neared the foot of the mountain, the terrain flattened out into a wide, open grassy field. With no large rocks or dense woods for cover, there was no way she could outrun the Leopard Woman.

Feng Ling grew anxious.

She glanced back.

The fog at the base of the mountain was thin, allowing her to clearly see the Leopard Woman heading toward her—

Its two hind legs were stained crimson, the constant running preventing the wounds from closing. Its body was also spattered with blood from the numerous explosions. The severed leopard tails had regrown, but they were pitifully short.

The Leopard Woman leaped less often, mostly just limping forward.

Even so, due to the difference in their sizes, it could still easily catch up to Feng Ling.

Feng Ling stared at it and decided to risk everything on one last gamble.

’First, I’ll use a grenade to break its Spiritual Suppression, just like before. Then, during those few seconds when its spiritual power is disrupted, I’ll rush in and stab its front legs, use the momentum to leap onto its back, and stab its hind legs again. I’ll worsen its leg injuries to slow it down even more. That way, I can buy myself more time to reach the water—’

The sequence of moves played out clearly in her mind, like a drill.

She took a deep breath, steadied herself, and, following the plan in her head, pulled out a grenade, pulled the pin, and threw it!

With a deafening BOOM, Feng Ling held her breath and charged into the gunpowder smoke, a wave of heat washing over her. She used Teeth and Claws, lunging forward to bite down on the Leopard Woman’s two front paws!

Just as she predicted, it reared up. Feng Ling immediately used the momentum to flip sideways! But just as she was about to mount it as planned, the Leopard Woman suddenly twisted its body in a full 180-degree turn!

Feng Ling, suspended in mid-air, was violently flung aside by the sweeping force!

THUMP! She slammed into something—she didn’t know what—and a searing pain shot up her spine. The world spun, her vision blurring!

’This is bad,’ she thought. She scrambled to grab a grenade from her bag, only to find that the bag itself had been flung off her body!

Feng Ling immediately struggled to her feet, her vision swimming as she saw the Leopard Woman walking toward her, one step at a time.

As the Maze Boss drew closer, its terrifying Spiritual Suppression intensified, making the very air feel heavy.

Feng Ling wiped the blood trickling from the corner of her mouth. She gave a faint smile and said softly, "My mistake... I underestimated you. Turns out you have a brain after all."

After being hit by grenades a few times, it had learned to dodge them. Now, after seeing her pull grenades from her bag over and over, the monster had learned to get rid of the bag itself.

The Leopard Woman watched her with the cold eyes of a beast, drawing closer and closer...

All it had to do to deal with Feng Ling was release its Spiritual Suppression, then swat her dead with a single claw, as easily as crushing an ant.

There was no telling when Huangfu Miaomiao and Baozi would get here. Even if they did, they probably couldn’t save her.

The feeling of being on the verge of death made Feng Ling’s pores open and her heart race. She felt strangely exhilarated.

"I’m going to kill you..." Feng Ling’s lips curled into a grin as she murmured, "I’m going to kill you..."

She pulled a large cabbage from her waist pouch.

The Leopard Woman’s expression changed in an instant!

"Want it?" Feng Ling hurled it forward. "Go get it yourself!"
