Alien Species Invasion? I Kill Them Back.

Chapter 126 - 124: The Path of Evolution

Chapter 126: Chapter 124: The Path of Evolution

The Leopard Woman’s eyes followed the fruit as she lunged for it.

Her most important task in this Maze was to guard the fruit tree; it was also her only source of energy!

She had chased them from the mountaintop to its base and was already ravenous. The slow healing of her wounds only made her more agitated. Now, with a fresh fruit right in front of her, how could she possibly resist?

But when the Leopard Woman picked up the fruit, she noticed its weight was off. Peeling back the outer leaves, she found it was empty inside!

The Leopard Woman realized she had been tricked and let out an irrepressible roar of fury!

She whipped her head around to look at the deceiver!

Feng Ling was already a good distance away, holding a gleaming purple fruit. As if to taunt her, she deliberately took a bite.

"You’ve got a brain, but not a big one! Haha!" Feng Ling laughed wildly.

The Leopard Woman roared in rage!

She leaped up, ignoring her injuries, and charged madly toward Feng Ling!

Feng Ling was also running toward the water’s edge at top speed!

The pursuit behind her was like the Death God closing in. With the plank walkway just ahead, she took a great stride forward and leaped!

A long, sharp shadow shot out like lightning!

Feng Ling was mid-air when her body suddenly went rigid. She looked down to see a leopard tail tipped with cone spikes piercing her chest.

Hot blood stained the cone spikes crimson as pain shot through her nerves, reaching every cell in her body.

Gritting her teeth, she raised her hand and threw the fruit into the lake!

The Leopard Woman, shocked and enraged, retracted her tail, preparing to dive into the water!

Feng Ling slammed onto the plank walkway! Because of the pain and her lack of strength, the fruit she had just thrown was now floating in the shallow part of the lake.

’I can’t let the Leopard Woman get that fruit!’

Feng Ling plunged into the water after the Leopard Woman. While all of the monster’s attention was on the fruit, her oppressive aura gone, Feng Ling gritted her teeth, swung her Bone Blade, and severed the Leopard Woman’s two longest tails!

The Leopard Woman howled in pain, spun around, raised a Beast Claw, and slammed Feng Ling into the water!

The front of the Beast Claw had sharp hooks that pierced the wound in Feng Ling’s chest! They dug into her flesh! With a single, forceful tug, it ripped her chest apart, tearing off her shoulder and arm along with it!

A torrent of blood gushed out, staining the lake water red near the shore.

And the purple fruit, carried by the bloody current, drifted into deeper water.

The Leopard Woman paced anxiously in the shallows, watching the fruit drift further and further away, unwilling to leave.

She wanted to vent her fury on the culprit, but Feng Ling’s body was nowhere to be found in the water.

Feng Ling had lost nearly a third of her torso.

Blood continuously poured from her body, her internal organs swaying in the lake water. Perhaps the pain was so extreme that she could no longer feel her body, only a lingering consciousness...

The lake was deep, so deep...

The water was dark, so dark...

The shadow of a colossal beast swam by on the bottom.

Her body bobbed up and down, drifting... Then, the undercurrent stirred by the passing beast carried her into a patch of reeds.

She was like a mutilated fish, beached and wet, waiting to die.

Feng Ling lay on her back in the tangled reeds, her consciousness fading.

She didn’t know how much blood she had left, whether her heart was still beating, or if this awareness was the last flicker of a dying life or the consciousness of a ghost after death.

’The Queen Mother of the West... she’s so strong...’

she thought silently.

’Although myths have evolved over the ages, making this deity benevolent, gentle, lacking in majesty, and even somewhat mundane... but its original form—or rather, Her true form—is truly powerful...’

’But this is how it should be.’

’This is right.’

’When humans dressed you up according to their own aesthetics and preferences, did they ever consider how you could possibly survive in a world fraught with danger on gentleness, grace, and kindness alone?’

’The primary purpose of genetic evolution is... to live.’

’To live, you must constantly strengthen and improve what is needed, and discard what is not. That’s how you live. Live!’

Feng Ling opened her eyes. Gazing at the vast white sky, she suddenly understood.

She knew the path the Nest’s evolution should take.

A RUSTLING sound reached her ears.

It was followed by the SPLASHING of water.

’It can’t be the Leopard Woman. A creature of her size would make much more noise if she were approaching.’

Just as Feng Ling was thinking this, she heard a suppressed sob.

A man’s voice urged softly, "Keep your voice down. You’ll attract The Queen Mother of the West..."

’Oh, so it’s Baozi and Little Skeleton...’

Feng Ling’s heart relaxed.

Then she couldn’t help but wonder, ’Do I even have a heart anymore? I think the Leopard Woman crushed it...’

...

Huangfu Miaomiao was sobbing convulsively. "Is she already dead...?" she asked Baozi.

Baozi looked uneasily at Feng Ling’s translucent body. "Let’s get her to shore first."

Although he said this, he stood in the reeds for a long time without moving. Feng Ling’s body was so grievously damaged that he didn’t know where to even begin.

Huangfu Miaomiao cried, "It’s all your fault, you were too slow! WAHHH... If we had gotten here a little sooner, she wouldn’t have had to die... WAHHH..."

Baozi reluctantly picked up Feng Ling and said softly, "Even if we ran faster, we still couldn’t beat the Maze Boss..."

"Be careful, her intestines are falling out... WAHHHH..."

"Then help me hold them in... Hey, have you seen her heart...?"

"WAHHHHHHHHHH!"

"I told you to keep your voice down..."

"She’s really dead! She doesn’t even have a heart! WAHHHH!"

"...Oxhead and Horseface died before too, didn’t they come back to life later? Stop crying. Let’s just wait, just wait a little longer..."

Maybe if they waited, a miracle would happen.

The two of them got Feng Ling onto the shore. Worried the Maze Boss would search for them along the bank, they didn’t dare stay and continued to look for a hidden place to rest. In the end, they stumbled into Fox Village by mistake.

Baozi didn’t know the way, and Huangfu Miaomiao was too distraught from crying to pay attention. It wasn’t until they were inside the Fox Village area that they realized their mistake.

Baozi said, "There’s a village here. Let’s find a house so she can recover properly."

Huangfu Miaomiao said, "This is bad! This is Fox Village! We’ll get trapped by a ghost wall and won’t be able to leave!"

Baozi felt a wave of despair.

The "corpse" in his arms was wet and sticky, blood covering his hands, and her mangled organs threatened to slip out at any moment. He’d finally found a place to rest, so how had it turned out to be another trap?

It was too late to leave now. Steeling himself, he picked the closest house and cautiously went inside.

The house showed signs of having been burned. Huangfu Miaomiao recognized it and said, "We came here with Deputy Pei. To drive out the foxes, Deputy Pei set this place on fire."

Baozi felt a slight sense of comfort. It was illogical, but knowing that Pei Xianjue had burned this house down put his mind at ease.

He laid Feng Ling down.

Huangfu Miaomiao took a fruit out of her plaid backpack.

Baozi was about to stop her, but she had already crushed the fruit and was feeding the juice into Feng Ling’s mouth.

In that instant, a shiver ran down Baozi’s spine!

He immediately looked out the door!

Where the village had been calm moments before, countless specks of vibrant, peachy-pink light now floated in the air! It was hunger, it was greed, it was mouth-watering desire!
