Alien Species Invasion? I Kill Them Back.

Chapter 141 - 139: Human Ammunition Pack

Chapter 141: Chapter 139: Human Ammunition Pack

Li Qing kept a tense expression and said nothing.

The rain had soaked him to the bone, leaving him in a sorry state.

The exterior of the Supervision Building was incredibly smooth, with only the windowsills spaced several meters apart offering any purchase. Even for Feng Ling, with her numerous limbs, climbing down the outer wall would be difficult.

"Daoist, this is the ninth floor. We’re over thirty meters up," Feng Ling said, holding an umbrella as she tried to reason with him. "Why don’t you just go back up? The bedsheets probably aren’t long enough."

Li Qing retorted sullenly, "I’m going to the seventh floor."

"With this downpour, the window on the seventh floor is bound to be closed. You won’t get in," Feng Ling said.

Li Qing was stubborn. "I can get in."

"Fine, you can get in." Feng Ling shifted downward, following him. "What was the game system thinking? It makes you guys Maze Administrators but doesn’t even give you any Skills? Your lives must be so hard."

Li Qing felt that Feng Ling was born to be the bane of his existence. Every word she spoke grated on his nerves.

"Because—" He took a deep breath. "The system never expected that Administrators would need to interact with humans. Our Skills are all designed to meet the needs of players."

"I haven’t seen any evidence of that," Feng Ling asked from within the downpour. "Aren’t you just a fortune-teller?"

Li Qing reached the eighth floor and caught his breath. "Fortune-telling comes from a Card’s ability. As a Maze Administrator, I have the authority to search the card library and know the details of every single Card. I can view player information and learn all their secrets. I can ban players from the forums, and I can even kick them offline for rule violations, provided I can submit proof to the system."

"Does killing an Administrator count as a violation?" Feng Ling asked.

Li Qing: "..."

Feng Ling said in surprise, "No way. If even killing an Administrator doesn’t count as a violation, then what does?"

Li Qing’s expression darkened as he continued his descent. "...The game has only one rule: Do not reveal any information related to the Origin World."

Feng Ling froze for a moment. ’The Origin World he’s talking about... that must be the world the Alien Species lived in before they "logged in."’

Li Qing finally reached the seventh floor.

Seeing this, Feng Ling extended two more of her Teeth and Claws, clamped them onto the eighth-floor windowsill, and lowered her body in front of the seventh-floor window.

On the other side of the window stood a small animal: Li Qing’s pet Green Weasel.

The Green Weasel stood on its hind legs, its two small paws deftly flipping the window’s latch. This allowed Li Qing to push the window open from the outside and climb into the room.

Seeing her chance, Feng Ling quickly followed him inside.

The room was pitch-black, but her night vision allowed her to see at a glance that it was a hospital room.

Unlike the layout of the Qingjiang Branch, the Yuquan Branch had its medical ward on the seventh floor.

Yuquan City had seen no major operations in the last few days, so there were no casualties. The entire seventh-floor ward was empty, save for two on-duty medical personnel.

The on-duty staff were resting in their rooms, not patrolling the corridors like guards.

Li Qing produced a set of orderly’s scrubs from somewhere.

He stripped off his soaking-wet Daoist robe and changed into the clean scrubs.

’So that’s his escape plan,’ Feng Ling thought.

"Daoist, you still haven’t told me what ’Squirrel’ means," she asked quickly, before he could leave.

Li Qing buttoned his uniform and replied, "A squirrel is a mammal belonging to the order Rodentia."

Feng Ling didn’t rise to the bait. "Does ’Squirrel’ have a specific meaning among players?"

"A player who holds a Squirrel Card is typically just called a Squirrel," Li Qing replied.

Feng Ling thought for a moment. "I remember the Squirrel Card. Its ability is to store other Cards, right?"

"Correct." Li Qing put on a surgical mask and prepared to leave. He went to the door, grasped the handle, and pressed his ear against the wood, listening for any sound in the hallway.

"Do Squirrels appear in the Maze?" Feng Ling pressed.

Li Qing answered without hesitation, "No."

"Why not?"

"Because inside the Maze, the genes of living creatures are unstable, so they don’t drop Cards. Only a Maze Master can drop a Card. Furthermore, a Maze Master’s Cards are all unique Rare Cards. A Squirrel is just a common, repeatable Card. Therefore, a Squirrel Card cannot appear in the Maze."

He’d said all that in one breath. ’That explanation was clear enough. Surely that will satisfy her,’ he thought. Just as he was about to turn the doorknob, Feng Ling asked from behind him, "So, what would it mean if a Squirrel *did* appear in the Maze?"

Li Qing was at his wit’s end. ’Was my explanation not clear enough?’

He turned back around and said, exasperated, "The only place a Card can appear in the entire Maze is from the corpse of a Maze Master. A Maze Master can’t possibly be a Squirrel, so how could there be a Squirrel in the Maze? The only way is if a human or player carrying a Squirrel Card entered the Maze."

As he said this, Li Qing suddenly froze.

"Who encountered a Squirrel in the Maze?" His tone grew noticeably wary.

"What’s wrong?" Feng Ling asked, confused. "Does a Squirrel have some other ability besides storing Cards?"

Li Qing frowned, his expression turning serious. He whispered, "Squirrels have a nickname: ’ammunition pack.’ A Squirrel storing a lot of Cards is called ’fully loaded.’ One without any Cards is an ’empty pack.’"

Feng Ling was stunned for a moment before understanding dawned. "You mean... a Squirrel can intentionally raise an enemy’s Pollution Value by releasing a huge number of Cards? But you’d have to get really close to do that, wouldn’t you? Aren’t they afraid to die?"

Li Qing slowly shook his head. "The Squirrel isn’t necessarily a willing participant. Many powerful players keep Squirrels, using them as living card binders. After all, not every Card you find will suit you, so you need a Squirrel to store the extras. Then, when danger strikes, the player can shove the Squirrel out as a sacrificial pawn."

He paused before continuing, "When a Squirrel dies, all the Cards stored inside it burst out in an instant. The window is incredibly short. The enemy often has no time to react and is forced to absorb a massive number of Cards. Their Pollution Value skyrockets, and they mutate into a Pollution Body."

Feng Ling was shocked.

She knew Alien Species could be vicious toward one another—Huangfu Miaomiao’s arm had been corroded clean off by another Alien Species’s venom—but to use one of their own as a living bomb was beyond anything Feng Ling had imagined.

She then recalled the Pollution Body she had killed in the underground cavern.

’Could that Pollution Body have become what it was because it was attacked by a Squirrel?’

Li Qing glanced at the raging storm outside, then asked Feng Ling, "Who met a Squirrel? No matter who it is, you must warn them to be careful. The Cards a Squirrel stores are usually a chaotic jumble with conflicting properties. Anyone hit by the blast is almost impossible to save. It’s only a matter of time before they turn into a Pollution Body."

Feng Ling’s thoughts were now in a whirl.

’Should I tell Su Yuqing?’

"I have to go," Li Qing said, growing anxious. "Do you have any other questions?"
