Chapter 3: Chapter 2: Killing Bee and Mantis

The next moment, the Alien Species behind her leaped high into the air and landed hard with a BANG, right in front of the turnstiles!

Feng Ling’s breath caught in her throat. ’So fast.’

A scythe rose and fell!

A head flew up from the crowd, arching through the air. Splattering blood painted the electronic advertising screen on the wall red.

Feng Ling watched as a person in front of her was decapitated.

The Alien Species was coming for her!

She turned to flee, but just then, a squad of guards arrived from the side. They raised their guns and fired, and the entire subway station erupted with deafening gunfire!

Bloody wounds blossomed across the Alien Species’s body.

However, the bullets had a limited effect on the Alien Species. Even a shot to the heart couldn’t kill it instantly. Instead, the assault only fueled its murderous rage.

Its face grew even more ferocious, its eyes turned crimson, and its spine bulged high. Then, like a furious beast, it charged at the guards! Scythes rose and fell, sending blood splashing everywhere!

Feng Ling hid behind a pillar, her nerves pulled taut as her mind raced.

’Astonishing speed, sharp Bone Blades... What am I supposed to do against a monster like this? What do I do?’

Thinking fast, she spotted a conspicuous red fire extinguisher cabinet nearby. While the Alien Species was distracted by the guards, she dashed over, grabbed the extinguisher, pulled the safety pin, then charged toward the creature and squeezed the handle!

White fire suppressant sprayed out like a blizzard!

The massive amount of liquid carbon dioxide instantly turned the Alien Species into a snowman. The spray wasn’t lethal, but that was never Feng Ling’s intention. Her target was its eyes.

’If I can just obstruct its vision, then no matter how fast it is, it’ll be running around like a headless chicken!’

Of course, the Alien Species wasn’t about to stand there and take the spray. It roared in fury and swung a scythe at Feng Ling!

It was too fast. Feng Ling had no time to dodge and raised the fire extinguisher to block.

The scythe bone blade collided with the fire extinguisher with a CLANG! The extinguisher’s metal casing was sheared open!

Immediately, its other scythe swung at her!

Feng Ling sidestepped the blow.

Even with its eyes pasted over by the suppressant, the Alien Species could still pinpoint her location. The blade’s tip grazed her shoulder, instantly tearing the flesh open.

Blood splattered on the floor. Feng Ling scrambled to her feet and sprinted for the exit without the slightest hesitation.

The stairs and escalators leading to the surface were packed with people fleeing for their lives. Some stumbled, some were injured, and some even trampled over others to get ahead. As the Alien Species gave chase, a chorus of terrified screams rose up.

Feng Ling burst out of the subway station entrance—

The once-bustling street was now a scene of utter chaos. Cars had crashed into each other, and drivers and pedestrians alike were fleeing in panic.

She spotted an overturned motorcycle, righted it, and climbed on. Blood gushed from her wound, streaming down her arm.

Seeing that half her body was drenched in blood, Feng Ling seethed with rage.

"Damn it..."

The rearview mirror reflected the Alien Species emerging from the subway entrance, still in pursuit.

Feng Ling’s gaze turned icy. A ruthless look entered her eyes as she stared at the monster in the mirror, gritting her teeth. "So you’re fast, huh? Let’s see if you can keep up."

She suddenly wrenched the handlebars, cutting across the grassy median at top speed and heading for the park plaza up ahead!

As the Alien Species gave chase, two rows of insectoid appendages sprouted from its lower body. Its jaw split open to reveal serrated, insect-like mandibles as it let out a furious shriek at Feng Ling!

With the threat of death so near, Feng Ling became preternaturally calm.

She cranked the motorcycle to its top speed and shot into the park—

The park bordered the Heavenly Water River. ’She refused to believe this oversized insect could maintain its speed advantage in the water!’

Feng Ling raced along the park’s riverside path. A vast patch of reeds came into view, the river glittering beyond it in the sunlight.

She rode the motorcycle to a maintenance shed near the riverbank. It was empty, save for a pile of landscaping tools and old items left behind by tourists, like tents and umbrellas.

Feng Ling picked out a heavy axe. As she was about to leave, she spotted a Kite leaning against the wall.

A cold smile touched her lips. She bent down, picked up the Kite, and left the shed, running quickly toward the riverbank.

The motorcycle had been fast enough to put some distance between her and the Alien Species, but she was certain it would soon be on her trail again.

Feng Ling vaulted over the waist-high guardrail and slid down the embankment.

She tied the Kite string between two trees on the bank. Then she kicked off her shoes and waded barefoot into the dense reeds, gripping the axe handle tightly, her cold eyes fixed on the distance.

’Here it comes.’

The Alien Species appeared on the embankment.

’Faster than I thought.’

Its upper body still vaguely resembled a human, but its lower half had completely devolved into something insectoid. It skittered forward on six legs, closing in on Feng Ling’s position in the reeds at astonishing speed—as if it had X-ray vision!

An ambush is meaningless once your position is exposed, but the corners of Feng Ling’s mouth only curled higher, her smile widening.

’Faster...’

’Come on, just a little faster!’

The very instant the monster lunged, Feng Ling spun and threw herself toward the deeper water! Half her body plunged beneath the surface!

At the same time, the monster’s eyes flashed blood-red as it pushed its speed to the absolute limit, swinging its scythe at her in the water!

SHIIINK!—

The scythe sliced through the air!

Feng Ling sank beneath the water!

Water splashed high, and the reeds swayed violently.

A bloodcurdling shriek tore through the air!

Feng Ling broke the surface to see the Alien Species sawn in half at the waist by the Kite string. Its upper torso had crushed a wide swath of reeds, while its lower body was mired in the wet mud.

It convulsed and howled as more and more blood pumped from the wound...

Vicious satisfaction glinted in Feng Ling’s eyes.

She hefted the axe and waded through the blood-tinged water. She looked down at the dying, struggling Alien Species, then raised the axe, her expression impassive—

CRACK!

Bone cracked as the axe blade shattered the monster’s spine.

The familiar scene played out once more. The mutated body convulsed, went rigid, and then lost all signs of life forever.

Two silver Cards slowly rose up.

Just as Feng Ling was about to get a closer look at the designs on the Cards, an intense hunger surged through her once more. As if possessed, she reached out. The moment her hand touched the Cards, they were absorbed—
