Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Killing Bee and Mantis

Dawn broke.

Feng Ling woke up feeling refreshed, better than she had ever felt before.

She guessed her Extraordinary Ability was a ’strong physique and endless strength,’ which was why she felt so full of energy.

But the ability seemed to have a side effect. Right now, for instance, she was exceptionally hungry.

Remembering the instant Baozi she bought yesterday, Feng Ling opened the fridge, took them out, and put two in the microwave.

Just as she was about to close the microwave door, she paused for a moment and then stuffed the remaining four Baozi inside as well.

The microwave would take a few minutes. Feng Ling rubbed her stomach, turned to wash up in the bathroom, and casually opened a trending news alert on her phone.

"Recently, a vicious murder incident involving an Alien Species occurred in Times Square, resulting in a total of 27 casualties..."

"The Alien Species possess human-like intelligence. They call themselves ’players’ and use human bodies as vessels to operate, a process they refer to as ’logging in.’ After logging into a human body, an Alien Species will typically disguise itself and live as an ordinary person."

"We urge the public to remain vigilant. If you discover any suspicious individuals, please immediately call the Alien Species hotline... A reward of 10,000 will be given for effective tips, and a reward of 1,000,000 for a successful kill of an Alien Species..."

Feng Ling, who was brushing her teeth, froze.

’How much?’

With her toothbrush still in her mouth, she picked up her phone and confirmed she hadn’t misheard. The government had issued a bounty: 1,000,000 for killing an Alien Species.

If the slain Alien Species was on the official wanted list, the rewards could be stacked, up to a maximum of eight million!

Feng Ling couldn’t help but glance at the toilet...

If only this news had come out a few hours earlier. Last night, she wouldn’t have flushed that Alien Species, which had rotted into sludge, down the drain.

’One million...’

’Forget it. Time to move on.’

There was no getting that million back, and she still had to earn money for her living expenses today.

Feng Ling had always had a positive outlook. After finishing washing up, she took the steaming hot Baozi from the microwave, threw on a sports jacket, and headed out.

...

The loop line subway was packed during the morning rush hour. There wasn’t a single empty seat.

Feng Ling leaned against a glass window, pulled a mint from her pocket, and unhurriedly unwrapped it.

She had already finished all six of the large Baozi on her way here. The feeling of fullness had only lasted for a short 20 minutes, and now she was hungry again...

’What kind of superpower is this anyway?’ she wondered. ’The prompt said the Card’s genes underwent an unknown change. Does that mean I’m just going to become a bottomless pit?’

With the mint in her mouth, Feng Ling’s mind began to wander.

’Looks like I’ll have to start keeping candy and chocolate bars on me. Don’t want to pass out from hunger someday if I can’t find a place to eat.’

’Sigh, another expense.’

"Next stop, Tianshui Park..."

Feng Ling glanced up at the electronic screen announcing the stop.

Something in her peripheral vision caught her attention. Frowning, she looked over and saw a man in the connecting area of the next car back, staring right at her.

Their eyes met. The corners of the man’s mouth lifted into a strange smile.

Feng Ling felt a sense of unease. ’What’s with this psycho?’ she thought with a frown. Just then, the man started moving toward her, that same strange smile on his face, trying to push his way through the crowded car.

Feng Ling’s heart skipped a beat. Something was wrong.

The train arrived at Tianshui Park Station, and a large crowd of passengers surged out the doors.

Without a second thought, she followed the crowd off the train.

A strong sense of unease washed over her. Even though he looked like an ordinary office worker, her intuition screamed at her to get away from him as fast as possible!

’Could he be an Alien Species?’

Feng Ling walked forward, keeping an eye on the commotion behind her, when she suddenly heard a scream!

She didn’t look back. She shoved a passenger blocking her way aside and broke into a sprint!

The crowd scattered in terror. The danger was closing in fast!

Feng Ling’s heart pounded wildly. Her blood surged, and her senses became sharper than ever before. In a split second, she leaped forward and rolled as she hit the ground—

SLAM!

A scythe-like Bone Blade smashed into the floor where she had just been, nearly slicing off her heel!

She looked back and saw that the well-dressed man from before had now swelled in size. His two arms had transformed into scythe-like blades, dripping with fresh blood!

The killing intent on his face was completely undisguised, and his eyes shone with excitement, delight, and fanaticism!

Feng Ling scrambled to her feet and ran.

The sudden appearance of the Alien Species threw the subway station into chaos. Everyone was sprinting for the exits!

Within just thirty seconds, the turnstile gates were clogged with panicked people, while more passengers continued to pour in frantically from behind!

Feng Ling was quickly swallowed by the surging crowd! Terrified screams and cries echoed through the station, making her eardrums ring.
