Alien Species Invasion? I Kill Them Back.

Chapter 45 - 43: Crunch, Crunch, Crunch

Chapter 45: Chapter 43: Crunch, Crunch, Crunch

Her words left Su Yuqing and Zhou Diao stunned.

"A Ma...ze?" Zhou Diao asked, looking at Su Yuqing in confusion. "The Maze she mentioned... you don’t think she means *the* Maze? The source of Alien Species pollution that’s a required topic on every Inspector’s training exam?"

Su Yuqing’s brow was tightly furrowed. He stared at Feng Ling and asked, "Why do you want to enter the Maze? That’s a special game area for Alien Species, not a place for humans."

Feng Ling picked up a bag of cheese-flavored potato chips from the coffee table, tore it open, and started eating.

"My Pollution Value is 29%," she said.

The expressions on both Su Yuqing and Zhou Diao changed instantly.

The three members of the Special Attack Team had an even more dramatic reaction. The guns in their hands snapped up, all aimed squarely at Feng Ling!

CRUNCH, CRUNCH...

CRUNCH, CRUNCH...

The chips were crisp.

Feng Ling calmly looked at them, speaking as she ate. "Put them down. You can’t beat me."

After a pause, she looked at Su Yuqing again. "Besides, I think I can still be saved."

Su Yuqing’s lips were tightly pressed together; he didn’t speak.

The three team members exchanged glances, and seeing that Su Yuqing hadn’t said anything, they hesitantly lowered their weapons.

Zhou Diao, however, let out a great gasp and yelled, "Feng Ling! You’re unbelievable! With a Pollution Value like that, if you were at the Inspection Bureau, you’d be sent to the gas chamber!"

"Gas chamber?" Feng Ling looked at Su Yuqing, stunned.

"Don’t listen to his nonsense," Su Yuqing explained with a frown. "It’s called the Special Observation Room. Any Inspector with a value over 22% must go in for a period of observation. We need to confirm they aren’t aggressive and are emotionally stable before they can be released to resume their duties. Even then, they are classified as high-risk personnel and face certain restrictions on their daily activities. It’s all for the sake of public safety."

Zhou Diao added from the side, "If they’re emotionally unstable—enraged, frantic, and have lost their minds—the observation room releases poison gas and sends them straight to the afterlife!"

Su Yuqing glared at him. "It’s a high-potency anesthetic spray, not poison gas!"

"What’s the difference?" Zhou Diao shrugged. "You’re dead after they spray it anyway. The only difference is that it’s painless. Just a humane extermination, that’s all."

Feng Ling was taken aback. "You guys are pretty ruthless with your own people."

"It’s a last resort." Su Yuqing looked up at her. "Did you really think every Pollution Body the Inspection Bureau eliminates is a transformed Alien Species? It’s better to die in the observation room than to suffer genetic collapse, become neither human nor ghost, and turn into pollution itself."

Feng Ling bit into a potato chip, crunched on it a couple of times, and suddenly found it rather unappetizing.

Zhou Diao let out a whistle, his tone icy. "Well now, things just got interesting. If the Supervision Bureau knew your Pollution Value was at 29%, I’m afraid this on-site recruitment would turn into an on-site arrest."

The sound of Feng Ling chewing her chips grew louder. She was not happy.

She glanced at Su Yuqing and asked, "But isn’t there the Maze? Why doesn’t the Inspection Bureau send people into the Maze to find the Divine Statue? Your intelligence can’t be any less than mine. You should know that the Divine Statue can help a Card Holder eliminate a portion of their Pollution Value."

"There have been such cases, but..." Su Yuqing lowered his head and pressed his brow in frustration. "Intelligence on Mazes is extremely scarce. The entrances are hard to find, and the insides are fraught with danger. Trying to clear your Pollution Value by entering a Maze is... somewhat unrealistic. At least for now, prevention is more important than cleansing."

Zhou Diao also said to Feng Ling, "Think about it. To fight Alien Species, we have to improve our Card Ability. To improve our ability, we’ll inevitably get polluted to some degree. That’s a normal part of our lives. But Mazes? They’re rare and highly dangerous. They aren’t a normal part of life. We might not even find a Maze before our Pollution Value starts affecting our minds. We just can’t wait that long."

Feng Ling thought for a moment. "Actually, I have a clue to a Maze. We should have enough time."

"Report it," Su Yuqing said.

He felt the situation was far too complicated. It would have to be reported to his superiors. They’d probably need a dozen meetings just to figure out what to do.

"Report it to the Supervision Bureau. Let them send people to help you find the Maze. They can also supervise you to prevent you from losing control. It’s the safest option," Su Yuqing said, sounding utterly exhausted.

Zhou Diao disagreed, muttering under his breath, "...I don’t think it’s that safe. The folks from the Supervision Bureau might show up and just drag Feng Ling straight to the gas chamber. Qingjiang City finally has a heavy hitter, are you willing to let her go?"

"I already told you it’s not a gas chamber!" Su Yuqing’s head was throbbing. "It’s the Special Observation Room!"

Zhou Diao scoffed, unconvinced, and turned his face away.

Feng Ling asked Zhou Diao, "What’s your Pollution Value right now?"

Zhou Diao raised his eyebrows, looking a little smug. "2%. Hellhound main Card, and I’ve absorbed one Grassland Wolf."

Su Yuqing said in a grave voice, "Every Card we confiscate is sent to the Supervision Bureau’s research institute. Then, the institute distributes Cards based on the needs and characteristics of each Inspector’s deck. The institute does everything it can to keep the Pollution Value to a minimum. While there are occasional mistakes... for the most part, the Cards they provide are safe and reliable."

He sighed and looked at Feng Ling again. "I’m not trying to restrain you, but this path you’re on isn’t a long-term solution. Feng Ling, report it to the Supervision Bureau. Whether it’s about the hidden boss or your Pollution Value, you need more expert advice."

’Reporting this to the Inspection Bureau would only complicate things, wouldn’t it?’ Feng Ling thought.

She considered it seriously for a moment. "Hmm... it’s not impossible, if you can agree to one condition."

"Name it." Su Yuqing nodded calmly. "I will do everything in my power to meet your condition."

Feng Ling glanced at Su Yuqing. Although she felt a little embarrassed... since he had said that, she ought to be more straightforward.

"Sign this apartment over to me," she said.

Su Yuqing: "..."

The living room was silent for two seconds.

Su Yuqing shot to his feet. Without another glance at Feng Ling, he walked out with a dark expression and slammed the door!

"Pfft..." Zhou Diao couldn’t hold it in anymore and burst into frantic laughter. "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!"

Feng Ling was a little confused. She looked at the other three members of the Special Attack Team, and their expressions were also strained.

"So he won’t give it to me. Why did he have such a huge reaction?" Feng Ling asked Zhou Diao.

"Sore spot! That’s Old Su’s sore spot! HAHAHAHA!!!" Zhou Diao was still laughing uncontrollably.

Confused, Feng Ling walked to the entrance, opened the door, and deliberately peeked outside, only to find that Su Yuqing was really gone.

She found it incredible. "He just left? Left without a word because he was angry?"

Qin Liang held back a laugh and explained, "Ms. Ling, this apartment is the wedding home Captain Su prepared for himself."

Feng Ling’s eyes went wide with shock.

A wedding home?!

’Whoa,’ she thought, ’then isn’t it a little inappropriate for me to be living here?’

"The wedding was called off, and he’s still calling it a wedding home! HAHAHAHA!" Zhou Diao mocked mercilessly. "It’s his own fault for liking Ms. Ye. I bet he’ll never get married in this lifetime!"

Feng Ling walked closer to Qin Liang. "Give me the details."

She wanted in on the gossip too.

Qin Liang looked helplessly at Zhou Diao. ’Can we even talk about this?’ he thought. ’Isn’t it a little rude to be discussing our boss’s private life behind his back?’

"Tell her!" Zhou Diao slapped his thigh as he laughed. "Hurry up and tell her! Quick!"
