Alien Species Invasion? I Kill Them Back.
Chapter 56 - 54: I’ll Die If I Don’t EatChapter 56: Chapter 54: I’ll Die If I Don’t Eat
The Fishman finally swam ashore.
He passed a clothing store. His lower body transformed into a fish tail, which he used to shatter the glass. Then, he entered the store and, despite his missing arms, managed to wrap himself in a long trench coat.
All this took a considerable amount of time, so much so that he didn’t dare stop to pick out shoes. He rushed toward Mengjia Hotel barefoot.
In his plaid backpack was a precious Strong Recovery Agent that could help him regrow his limbs.
But considering he didn’t know what he would face next, he decided to wait until his business was finished before injecting himself to ensure the agent’s full effect.
He had already pushed himself to his limit. By the time he reached Mengjia Hotel, he was on the verge of collapse, his feet covered in bloody blisters. Since he wasn’t wearing a watch, he had no idea if he had exceeded the two-hour time limit Feng Ling had given him.
The front desk clerk on the night shift was a young man. His expression flickered slightly upon seeing the Fishman’s miserable state, but his voice remained composed as he said, "Welcome."
The Fishman walked step by step toward the front desk.
"I’m in room 410. I seem to have lost my keycard."
"And your name, sir?"
"Yu Mo."
"Okay, I can see here that you are indeed checked into room 410. I’ll get you a replacement keycard now."
Awkwardly, when the clerk handed the keycard to the Fishman, the Fishman had no hands to take it.
The clerk’s hand, holding the card, paused for two seconds before he finally tucked the card into the outer pocket of the Fishman’s trench coat.
The Fishman turned and left.
He didn’t take the elevator, instead heading up the fire escape stairs on the right.
He also didn’t go to room 410. Instead, he stopped outside a room with no number on the door and kicked it twice.
THUD, THUD.
He didn’t use too much force, remaining cautious, as if he held a certain reverence for the person inside.
A woman opened the door. She was wearing a floral-print silk pajama set, had a tall figure, and her hair was tied back. Her rosy skin showed no trace of makeup.
The moment the woman saw the Fishman, she asked in astonishment, "What happened to you?"
The Fishman lowered his head and said, "The client is dead. I need to see Old Mo."
The woman stared suspiciously at the Fishman. Just as she was about to ask why he wanted to see Old Mo, a hoarse voice came from inside the room:
"Let him in."
The woman pouted, stepping aside to let the Fishman in before closing the door.
Inside, the room was the size of a standard double. The man called Old Mo was lying on the bed, his lower body covered by a thin sheet.
The sheet was raised in an uneven, lumpy shape. Whatever was underneath was clearly not a pair of human legs.
"What did you want to see me about?" Old Mo asked.
The Fishman looked up, glanced at the man on the bed, then lowered his head again. "Moon Shadow’s intel was wrong," he said. "The hidden boss didn’t just have two bladed tentacles; she also had four clawed ones. And she can turn invisible underwater. The client and my two brothers are all dead. I demand compensation."
"She can turn invisible underwater?!" The woman’s eyes suddenly widened. "She must be the one who killed Ding Hai! Ding Hai’s Card is the Ghost Jellyfish! It turns transparent in water!"
Old Mo frowned. "Moon Shadow, you should have mentioned that sooner."
The woman, Moon Shadow, said irritably, "I thought his Card was confiscated by the Inspection Team! Ding Hai wasn’t at the villa when I went offline. Only Fatty charged out at the time."
"The hidden boss isn’t dead, so technically, no payment is due. However, we do bear some responsibility for this. Let’s have Moon Shadow pay you 200 points as compensation," Old Mo said calmly.
"Two hundred?" The Fishman found it laughable. "Two hundred per person would be more like it. You should compensate me for my two dead brothers as well."
Moon Shadow disagreed, looking at Old Mo. "You said you would guarantee my safety, which is why I sold you the intel for 1800 points. Now you want to take a cut, and he wants compensation. Am I supposed to take a loss on selling intel?"
Old Mo leaned back on the bed and said listlessly, "Then how do you think this should be resolved?"
Moon Shadow glanced at the Fishman and smiled. "If I kill him, the problem goes away, doesn’t it?"
The Fishman took half a step back, staring warily at Moon Shadow.
Old Mo gave a slight nod. "You can, but don’t do it in the hotel. I don’t want players from Zones 17 to 22 to be afraid of doing business with us in the future."
The Fishman asked in a cold voice, "Aren’t you afraid I’ll go to the forums and expose you?"
"Oh?" Old Mo looked up, watching the Fishman with a calm expression. "Expose us for what? I’ve always upheld my end of the bargain. As long as you’re in the hotel, we will provide you with protection. Of course, the daily room fee is 20 points. And believe me, that’s a very reasonable price."
The Fishman squeezed a "thank you" through his teeth, then turned with a dark expression and left, returning to his own room, 410.
...
After the Fishman left, the people in that room disappeared from Feng Ling’s field of vision.
She opened her eyes, lost in thought.
The tracking marker only showed her images, not sound, so she didn’t know what the Fishman and those Alien Species had talked about. Nor was she sure which one was the Alien Species selling intel.
’To be safe, it’s best to kill them all.’
’Especially the Alien Species with the ability to track a boss’s movements. I absolutely can’t let it live.’
She pulled open the collar of her shirt to check her wound. Although it had mostly healed, she felt—though she couldn’t be sure if it was just her imagination—that she wasn’t recovering as quickly as she used to.
Feng Ling suspected the Fishman’s surface mucus had some sort of toxic property.
She also suspected it was because she was carrying two Nests. Her body’s instincts were supplying energy to the Nests, which was affecting her recovery speed.
She had originally planned to wait until the matter with the Maze was resolved before hatching these two Nests. But now, it seemed that continuing to carry these two burdens would only increase the risks of her actions.
She needed to hatch them early.
To have a Nest gestate new life, one first needed to use a Card to build the foundation, like laying the groundwork for a house. Then, one needed to accumulate a large amount of energy, like laying bricks. The final step was to fill the Nest with fresh flesh and blood, which was like decorating the exterior.
Feng Ling was only missing the final step.
She sat up on the medical bed and asked Huangfu Miaomiao, "Where’s my phone?"
’Did it fall into the water again?’
The thought gave Feng Ling a headache. ’Am I cursed when it comes to water? My last phone sacrificed itself to the Heavenly Water River just a few days ago.’
Huangfu Miaomiao quickly pulled the phone from her bag and handed it to her. "It fell onto the patrol boat. I picked it up."
Feng Ling felt a small sense of relief.
She took the phone and saw the screen was still on her chat with Li Daoist.
『Aisha: Daoist, the sun is about to set.』
『Li Daoist: ?』
Ten minutes after that message, the Daoist sent another one.
『Li Daoist: Are you okay?』
Feng Ling thought for a moment before sending a reply.
『Aisha: I’m fine. There was a small incident just now. I’ll have to come back tomorrow to wait for the sunset.』
『Li Daoist: Stay safe.』
’I will,’ Feng Ling thought. ’I’ll be extra careful tonight to make sure nothing goes wrong.’
She closed the chat window and opened her map app to search for nearby wet markets and large supermarkets.
To get fresh flesh and blood, finding vendors who sold fish and meat was the fastest way.
Feng Ling got up and exited the vehicle.
Su Yuqing and Zhou Diao were in the middle of drawing up an action plan. Seeing her emerge, Su Yuqing immediately asked, "Are you all recovered?"
Feng Ling hesitated for half a second before replying, "I’m a little hungry. I’m going to find a place to eat."
"Then hurry up and go!" Zhou Diao turned to Su Yuqing and explained, "She has a huge appetite. If she doesn’t eat, she’ll die!"
The nearby Special Attack Team members nodded emphatically.
Feng Ling: "..."
’Whatever,’ she thought. ’I can’t be bothered to explain.’
