Chapter 645: Chapter 645 – The Buff wolf

Chapter 645 – The Buff wolf

King Jaron went to meet the Lycan King Battal Legend with a few pack warriors and Uri’s corpse at the outlands. The journey was tense, the silence in the car heavy with dread.

Battal, a middle-aged man with striking handsome features and silver and black hair, stood expressionless as the vehicles pulled up. His presence was imposing, radiating power that made the air around him feel thick and difficult to breathe.

"Let me see." His voice was flat, devoid of emotion. Jaron opened the door to the back seat, his hands trembling slightly.

Battal’s bodyguards, who seemed to have similar features as him, though younger, carried Uri’s corpse out of the car with practiced efficiency. Now that Jaron looked at it, even Uri looked slightly like Battal, the same sharp jawline, the same cold eyes. However, there was no time to dwell on that.

Battal’s voice was like ice, cutting through the silence after he accessed Uri’s corpse. "I’ve changed my mind." He turned his gaze to Jaron, his eyes burning with cold fire. "I won’t destroy your pack, but you have to give me the warrior who did this and the white wolf."

Jaron’s head lowered to the amazement of his warriors. They had never expected their Alpha King to kowtow to anyone. And strangely, it was to the Lycans, creatures they had been taught to fear and respect in equal measure.

"He’s already unconscious," Jaron said, his voice barely above a whisper. "And I told you, the white wolf is at the Grimroot pack. Their Alpha is dangerous."

Battal did not care for his words. His expression remained unchanged, cold and unyielding. "Take me to the warrior who did this first. We shall talk about the white wolf after."

Jaron’s shoulders sagged with resignation as he drove them to the Silver Moon pack. But reaching there, a strange man in an all-brown attire was waiting for them. He was middle-aged and not too good looking, his face was weathered, his eyes sharp and calculating.

Before Jaron could speak, one of Battal’s bodyguards stepped out of the car. "That’s Jamal, one of our protectors." The guard’s voice was flat, carrying a note of warning. "King Battal says you should let him in."

Jaron’s blood ran cold. He knew the protectors of the Lycans were wizards, men and women who wielded powers far beyond the comprehension of ordinary wolves. He feared allowing any of them into the pack, but now, he didn’t have a choice. He was so bent on getting back at Voren that once again, he had gotten into a deal with the devil.

After telling the warriors to let the wizard in, they drove to the pack hospital. However, before they reached there in their cars, Jamal had already gotten ahead of them, moving with unnatural speed, his brown robes billowing behind him.

Jaron knew this wasn’t right. Voren would come after him if anything happened to Corvine. The thought sent a chill down his spine. To his dismay, the beta informed him, his voice urgent and panicked. "Alpha Voren is here, and he seems very upset."

Somehow, Jaron feared Voren more than Battal. Reason being that the Lycans would not attack his pack because of the crown but Voren would break every law where his family was concerned.

He still owed Voren an arm and leg, which was why he was afraid of the crown going to the Grimroot pack because that would rob Jaron of all his authority. Though Liah would be there, he knew already that Liah would not support his shady dealings.

He quickly turned to the latter, his voice desperate. "We should do this later. His Alpha is here, and he’s very dangerous."

Battal felt that Jaron was ridiculous, a weak leader cowering before his own kind. But his expression remained indifferent as he spoke coldly, his voice carrying across the hospital corridor. "A life for a life, and we want the white wolf too."

The door to the VIP ward where Corvine was admitted opened, and Voren stepped out with Seraphine by his side. He closed the door firmly behind him before Liah could join them, his gaze sweeping across the people in front of the door.

He noticed for the first time that Jaron’s head was bowed, a submission that surprised him.

"Is he the one?" Battal asked, his gaze fixed on Voren. The two glared at each other, neither of them ready to back down. Voren could tell from their scent that they weren’t werewolves.

What he still could not figure out was where the Lycans dwelled. They seemed to blend so well with humans that their existence completely eluded everyone.

Jaron quickly shook his head, his voice trembling. "No, that’s his Alpha."

"Then he’s of no value to me." Battal’s voice was dismissive, cold. "I want the life of Uri’s killer."

Jaron looked at Voren and lowered his eyes again. The entrance was blocked by Voren and Seraphine, and for the first time, words failed him. But Battal’s voice raised, impatient and demanding. "Where is he?"

"Alpha Voren, this doesn’t concern you." Jaron’s voice was weak, pleading. "Corvine is the one—"

"If Corvine did it, then I did it." Voren’s voice was cold, absolute. He stepped forward, his body blocking the door. "I put him to it. So let’s see who gets past this door."

Battal did not speak. He only turned to look at Jamal, his gaze questioning. The wizard frowned, his brow furrowing with concentration. "The white wolf and the buff wolf are blocking me from entering."

Battal was confused, his expression still indifferent, a statue carved from ice. "Isn’t the white wolf a child?" His voice carried a note of impatience. "And who is the buff wolf?"

He looked around expressionlessly, wondering if their protector had woken up from the wrong side of the bed. Perhaps, he should have brought the female protector instead.

"Me." A familiar voice sounded behind them, calm and steady.

Battal turned to see Ravyn walking toward them, his stride confident, his posture relaxed. Not only Jaron, but both Voren and Seraphine were confused by his declaration as well was his new look.
