She led Gregory to the living chamber and they sat down on the sofa. She kept wiping his tears but the tears refused to dry up.
"Briar invited me to come and see her when she was sick but I refused to go. Now I regret ever bearing so much grudge against them. I didn’t even get the chance to bid her final goodbye because of a grudge.
"It’s okay, you can still go and see her. You know where she was buried, right?" Lunara asked as she continued wiping his tears.
"Back then, I didn’t even know where she was buried. I didn’t care. To me, she was better off dead than alive. But now... I understand things differently." Gregory’s voice dropped.
Lunara gave him a small, understanding smile.
"It’s okay. That’s how life is sometimes. I understand how you feel. There was a time when I wanted nothing to do with Daniel either. But now, I’m starting to understand why Emma keeps asking me to go see him. Maybe... it’s time I did."
"The best decision I have ever made since the winter began is following you down here. I wouldn’t have forgiven them and nothing would have moved me."
"Wow! Does it mean you have forgiven them?" She asked.
"Yes," Greg responded.
"Let’s break the good news to Mr. Snow!!" She said, kissed him and he smiled. She ran out of the sitting chamber and returned with all the people who had come for the reconciliation dinner. Emma set the laptop on a table and they called Mr. Snow again. The reporters commenced their work.
Mr. Snow accepted the video call immediately. He was obviously waiting for them to call back. His eyes, which were previously bright, were now red. It was obvious he cried too.
"Greg, I’m sorry for ..."
"It’s okay. It is not your fault. I would have done the same. The girl sitting beside me is my moonmate. She is younger and I never knew I would be with a much younger woman. I’m so blinded right now, and I don’t care how old she is. Love found me and taught me a lesson that I will never forget all my life. So I understand better now. It’s neither your fault nor Briar’s.
"Wait...Big sib...does it mean you have forgiven them?" Billy asked excitedly.
"Yes," Greg shrugged. The pup screamed happily. However, Mr. Snow rested his head on a table that was in front of him.
"Father, please stop! Celine, who knows how to sweet talk you, is not here," Billy said, trying to console his father who was obviously crying.
"Briar, waited for this all her life," Mr. Snow said, wiping his tears. "I wish she was here today."
"It’s okay," Greg said with a sad tone too. Can I see the gift she kept for me?" He asked.
"Why not! Billy, please get the keepsake box," Mr. Snow said to his teenage pup.
"Where is Celine?" Greg asked. Lunara guessed Celine is Mr. Snow’s first daughter.
"She has gone to work. She is now the new managing director of my company and she is really doing a great job," Mr. Snow smiled. Lunara wished Briar was still alive to witness this wonderful reunion between stepfather and pup.
Billy came back after a few minutes with a white keepsake box that was properly sealed. He gave it to his father.
"I don’t know what is inside this box. I have not opened it since your mother gave it to me. I am happy your mother’s last wish has become a reality. I never knew a day like that would ever come," Mr. Snow said.
They fixed their gaze on the box as they wondered what was inside the white keepsake box.
"Open the box, let’s see what’s inside," Gregory said. Mr. Snow pulled the box closer and carefully untied the rusty orange ribbon that was tied to it.
Greg grinned as he watched him.
"She continued the tradition," he whimpered.
"What tradition?" Lunara asked.
"Rusty orange is my favorite color. When I was a pup, my mother always wrapped my gifts with rusty orange ribbons," Greg and all the people in the living room giggled.
Mr. Snow kept the ribbon on the table and opened the box. The keepsake box was filled with photos and letters, alongside other family mementos.
There were more than a hundred pictures of Gregory and his stepfather having a wonderful moment together. There were also pictures of him in his stepfather’s duty chamber, sitting and writing on his desk. They found the pictures quite hilarious, as Mr. Snow continued displaying them on screen.
There were pictures of Gregory and his biological father, but they were not as close as they were in all the pictures he took with his stepfather.
"Did you always take me to your duty chamber?" Greg asked, lifting his gaze.
"The academy bus dropped you off at the company after school. You always run into my duty to stay with me and write on my desk," Mr. Snow responded with a grin.
"Did my father have a problem with me running to your duty?" He asked.
"No, but he comes to my duty chamber to take you whenever he wants to play with you or go for lunch with you," Mr. Snow replied with a smile. Lunara was happy both of them were now laughing.
"How was my relationship with my father when I was young?" Greg asked.
"Very cordial. He loves you so much and wants to build an empire for you. I am happy he did it," Mr. Snow responded.
Greg’s mother wrote letters to him every winter but she never posted any of them. The letters had different dates up to the winter she died. Mr. Snow also showed them the letters and they read some of them. Tears began to cloud his eyes again.
In the box were also documents of her estate, shares, antiques, jewelry, works of art, and intangible property, such as patents of some of the things she founded while working with her mate and copyrights of all her books.
Gregory never knew his mother was the owner of a popular estate in Dublin. His father did not tell him. The documents of the estate were also in the box his mother gave him. He stood up after staring at the documents through the screen of the laptop and Lunara quickly held his hand.
"Billy, please stop him!" Emma shouted when Mr. Snow stood up too and left his computer.
"I can’t stop him; Celine can and I’m calling her right away," Billy sat down and began to dial his sibling’s device.
"Go after him please," Lunara said when Billy dropped his device on the table.
"Don’t worry, Celine is on her way here. She knows how to stop him. She is his Briar," Billy grinned.
"Do you know where he is probably going?" One of their neighbors asked.
"Yes," Billy responded.
"Where?"
"My mother’s grave," Billy responded, and they felt bad. Lunara saw Emma holding her tummy as though she had gone into labor. Brandon quickly held her and guided her to a sofa. She left Gregory and joined her sibling.
"Is the pup coming?" Brandon asked. Emma shook her head.
"I’m calling your healer."
"No, I’m fine," Emma replied, but the look on her face said otherwise.
Brandon frowned. "No, you’re not. I’m calling your healer."
He turned to the others. "Please excuse us for a few minutes. We’ll be back."
Without waiting for an argument, he gently guided Emma toward the elevator. They rode up in silence before stepping into the sitting chamber.
"Moonheart," Brandon said softly as he helped her onto the armchair, "what’s wrong? Should I ask everyone to head home and come back another day?"
Emma shook her head.
"No. Let’s finish this once and for all. Our guest may not get another chance to come back. Besides, we’re traveling to Finland, remember?"
"I do, but I can’t trade your health for..."
"I said I’m fine," Emma cut in, puffing out her cheeks in a little pout. "Don’t start."
Brandon sighed and shook his head.
"You always do this," he murmured, brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "You keep saying you’re fine even when I can see you’re exhausted."
Emma only looked at him.
He let out another breath and rested a hand against her cheek.
"Fine," he said at last. "We’ll get through this meeting, but the second it’s over, you’re resting. No arguments."
A small smile tugged at Emma’s lips.
"If you look so unwell, I’ll call your healer immediately. I don’t care if you like it or not."
Truthfully, Emma hated hearing the words healing den. She hated seeing healers even more, and taking pills was the last thing she wanted to do. But Brandon never took chances when it came to her health. Whenever he thought it was necessary, he made sure she visited the healers and took every pill they prescribed.
She rolled her eyes playfully.
"Overprotective Alpha."
"Guilty," Brandon replied with a faint smile. "Now, let’s go before everyone starts wondering what happened to us."
By the time they returned, everyone was already seated and waiting for them.
About thirty minutes later, they heard a female voice on the computer again and circled the computer one more time.
"She wanted to see him! All she ever wanted was to touch her pup before she died. I couldn’t help her, Celine. She died without seeing him," Mr. Snow kept talking as he walked back to the chamber with his daughter.
"It’s okay, " she said, tapping his shoulder. I’m sure she’s happy now you have spoken to her, hope you told her the details?"
"I’m not finished when you come," Mr Snow said.
"Don’t worry, you’ll go back later and tell her everything." Celine said with a smile.
Celine looked at them and waved. Greg winked at her and she grinned.
She guided her father to one of the sofas in the living chamber, then took a seat beside her sibling, who was already seated in front of the laptop.
"Greg! I’m glad you took this bold step!" Celine said after exchanging pleasantries with all the people on the other side.
"All thanks to my fiancee and her sibling who organized this great event." Greg said.
"Have you forgiven my father?" She asked.
