Alpha's Secret Bride

Chapter 274: He Never Stopped Watching

The atmosphere inside the vehicle changed in an instant.

Leo’s hand shot to the door handle, ready to move. Teddy was already speaking into his communicator, his voice calm but urgent as he ordered the warriors to prepare for deployment.

Brandon’s expression hardened, and every trace of hesitation vanished from his face.

"Move."

The command had barely left his mouth when Leo pulled the door open.

Before anyone could step outside, Tom’s eyes widened.

"Wait."

Everyone stopped where they were.

The blinking dot had returned to the monitor.

Tom slowly released the breath he had been holding. "She’s back."

Brandon stepped beside him and fixed his gaze on the screen.

"What happened?"

"The pendant must have passed beneath the old stone cellar behind the garden. The thick stone blocked the signal for a few seconds."

Nobody relaxed completely until the blinking dot began moving again.

Meanwhile, Emma wandered deeper into the garden, stopping every few steps to admire and sniff the blooming roses. Their sweet fragrance had drawn her outside in the first place. She knew their grandmother wouldn’t be waiting for them in the garden, but the scent of the flowers was too irresistible to ignore.

After spending a while gently brushing her fingertips over the velvety petals and breathing in their delicate fragrance, she finally smiled in satisfaction. She and Lunara turned and headed back toward the main building.

As they walked, Lunara’s gaze drifted across the estate before settling on a magnificent new mansion connected to the old renovated house. She instinctively slowed her pace, her eyes lingering on the impressive structure. Quiet surprise flickered across her face as she admired it, certain the mansion hadn’t been there the last time she visited.

The big compound which once boasted a dilapidated house now has a mansion that was laid into two levels. She looked at Emma and grinned.

"This is Brandon’s handiwork," Lunara said and they chuckled as they passed through a deep corridor with ornamented stone columns incorporated in a contemporary style.

Emma lifted her face and saw their grandmother standing in the open courtyard that was about fifty feet away from the main building, offering them a welcome smile.

Emma began to walk towards her, but Lunara hesitated. The last time she told her that she would like to come and scatter the ashes, she warned her not to come. When she tried to scatter it in the small garden in their house which was Theresa’s favorite spot, she warned her not to scatter the ashes there.

"Come," Emma beckoned. She shook her head.

"Come here!" Her grandmother shouted at her. Lunara began to walk towards them. She used to be their grandmother’s favorite. However, they became enemies after what she did to Emma.

"Moonrise, grandmother," they greeted her. She smiled.

"The roses are in full bloom," Emma said with a smile as she walked over to their grandmother. "Their fragrance was impossible to resist, so we decided to come out here. I’ve inhaled enough of their sweet scent to satisfy me."

Her grandmother smiled warmly and opened her arms for a hug. "I was in my chamber. I only came out when I heard your voice."

Emma studied her grandmother’s face with concern. "Tell me, Grandma, have you been taking your pills on time? Did you make it to your appointment with the healer? How are you feeling now?"

Mrs Oakshott laughed softly and cupped Emma’s face in her hands. "Oh, my sweet girl, you’ve barely been here a minute, and you’re already questioning me like my healer." She smiled fondly before continuing, "Yes, I’ve been taking my pills on time, and I kept my appointment. The healer said I’m doing very well and recovering just fine. So you can stop worrying and save some of that concern for yourself and my great-grandpup."

Emma smiled and gently rested a hand over her belly.

"I’ll never stop worrying about you, Grandmother. Taking care of you doesn’t mean I’m neglecting your great-grandpup. We’re both doing just fine, and knowing you’re getting stronger makes me feel even better."

"That reminds me, are you still leaving tomorrow?" her grandmother asked.

"No"

"When are you traveling to deliver my grandpup?"

"On Sunday," she responded.

"Why did you postpone it?" Grandmother asked and grimaced.

"I...I...want to visit Daniel tomorrow," Emma stammered.

"What a heck!! Don’t try it! Don’t even think of it! I’m still regretting why I allowed the matebond to happen. My daughter would have been alive if she hadn’t mated that monster!" Mrs Oakshott continued shouting. Emma and Lunara exchanged glances and giggled.

"Let’s go inside," she waved at them.

"Let’s scatter the ashes first," Emma said.

Their grandmother held their shoulders as they walked towards the garden that was at the back of the house.

Inside the garden, Emma and Lunara stood side by side beneath the flowers their mother had loved most.

Their grandmother began to cry as soon as Emma opened the decorative vase where the ashes were. Tears rolled down Lunara’s cheeks. After a few minutes of emotional moments, Emma took out three toasting glasses from her bag. She filled the glasses with some ashes and handed them out to their grandmother and Lunara. She held her glass and they began to share stories of memory that meant a lot to them. Emma shared what she would always remember about Theresa too. Lunara was surprised she had such a wonderful story about a woman who was not all that good to her.

Together, they scattered her ashes across the garden and went back to the house.

A few hours later, after sharing laughter, stories, and warm embraces with their grandmother, they reluctantly said their goodbyes and set off on the journey back to the estate.

"I can’t wait to touch my little niece or nephew," Lunara said, staring at Emma’s big stomach.

"Our little royal pup will be here in four days," she said, resting a hand over her belly. The excitement in her voice was contagious, and Lunara chuckled.

When they returned, Brandon crossed the distance between them without hesitation and pulled Emma into his arms.

She smiled against his chest, the warmth of his embrace washing away the fear and uncertainty that had clung to them for hours. Tilting her head just enough to look at him, she brushed her fingers lightly over his arm.

"See?" she whispered with a smile. "I told you I’d come back."

Brandon released a slow breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding. He rested his forehead against hers, his gaze lingering on her face as though he needed to reassure himself that she was truly standing in front of him.

After a long moment, a faint smile tugged at his lips.

"Did the roses finally bloom?"

Emma looked up at him. "They did. They’re even prettier than I imagined."

"I thought you’d spend a little longer there."

She frowned. "How did you know I was looking at the roses?"

Brandon’s smile faltered for the briefest moment.

"You’ve always loved them."

"That doesn’t answer my question."

He chuckled, hoping to brush it aside.

Emma folded her arms and narrowed her eyes. "Starlit."

He sighed in surrender.

"You stayed by the roses for almost ten minutes before walking to the gazebo."

Emma stared at him.

"You even stopped beneath the old oak tree for a while."

Her eyes widened.

"...You were watching me."

Brandon didn’t deny it. Instead, he reached for her hand and intertwined their fingers.

"From a distance," he admitted quietly. "I wanted to make sure you were safe."

She pulled back just enough to search his face.

Brandon’s smile deepened, calm and unhurried.

"I was making sure you were safe."

A laugh escaped her before she shook her head.

"So that’s why you weren’t worried when I took so long."

Brandon let out a quiet laugh and shook his head.

"I never said I wasn’t worried."

"Then why didn’t you call me on my communication device?"

"Because I was keeping an eye on you."

Emma stared at him for a heartbeat before a smile spread across her face.

"You really never stop looking after me, do you?"

"Never," Brandon replied without hesitation. "Not while I’m breathing."

Emma reached up and cupped his cheek.

"Then promise me you’ll keep breathing for a very, very long time," she whispered. "Because I don’t know what I’d do without you."

Brandon smiled, his eyes softening.

"I promise," he said. "But you have to make me one promise too."

Emma tilted her head. "What’s that?"

"Never scare me like you did today again."

A quiet laugh escaped her.

"I’ll try."

He raised an eyebrow.

"No," he murmured, gently brushing his thumb across her cheek. "Not ’I’ll try.’ Tell me you’ll come back to me every single time. That’s the only promise I want."

Emma’s smile grew as she nodded.

"I promise."

"Good," Brandon whispered, leaning down until their foreheads touched again. "Because I plan on keeping my promise... growing old with you, spoiling our pup, and annoying you for the rest of our lives."

Emma laughed softly.

"I think I can live with that."

"So can I," he replied, stealing a gentle kiss. "As long as you’re by my side."

Emma’s laughter slipped out, soft and genuine, the sound easing the last bit of tension between them. She reached up and gently cupped his cheek.

"You know I will."

He kissed her forehead and held her a little tighter before taking her back to the living chamber to rest and have lunch. Once they settled in, he gently massaged her legs while they chatted for a while before lunch was served.

The following moonrise, Brandon woke up early to surprise his queen but Emma was nowhere to be found.
