’Is it possible that lizard hasn’t run out of Mana?’
If that was the case, Violet couldn’t enter the tunnel.
Even with a Class B Shield, Enzo was pessimistic that it would be enough to help her.
After all, Class B equipment didn’t possess any special abilities yet beyond the toughness of its material.
Violet continued waiting.
This was getting ridiculous. Even after another half hour, the flames still didn’t stop. They finally ceased after a full hour and a half.
Enzo had gone through four cigarettes while waiting.
From what he could see, the humanoid cat’s corpse had almost completely disintegrated.
And it turned out there was a golden ring engraved with a triangle wedged between its rib bones.
It glowed brightly, indicating that it was some kind of magical item.
But how had it been hidden inside the cat’s body?
Violet sent out a thread to retrieve it.
The ring was pulled toward her.
Buzz!
At that exact moment, the golden flames erupted again. The Golden Lizard seemed to have sensed that there was still an enemy in front of it.
"Strange," Violet said when the ring landed in her hand.
Of course, those were actually Enzo’s words.
How could it not be strange? There had been no System notification.
Could it be that this wasn’t an item with any special abilities?
Yet the ring clearly looked unusual.
Unless it was simply an ordinary ring made from some special type of gold that caused it to glow.
"Looks like we have to wait again." Enzo sighed.
It was already noon.
He saw Emma arrive.
On the other side, Bella looked completely exhausted. She sat down on a chair, apparently needing some time to rest.
Enzo was rather reluctant to get up, but he had no choice. Emma began knocking loudly on the door of his post.
As soon as the door opened, she handed Enzo his lunch and left without saying a single word.
Enzo sat back down. He wasn’t in the mood to eat.
This time, the wait was even longer.
Two hours passed. Enzo went through a considerable number of cigarettes.
When Bella came and asked if there was anything he wanted her to buy, Enzo didn’t ask for anything.
Aside from smoking, he had no interest in doing anything else.
’If I had Violet wandering around instead, she might have already leveled up again,’ he thought with a bitter smile.
’That lizard needs to die.’
He was filled with frustration.
But he was still curious about how the Golden Lizard could produce such an enormous amount of flames.
In theory, it was simply impossible.
Whoosh!
Violet jumped down again, finally getting a clear view of the Golden Lizard, which was staring ahead warily.
It still hadn’t noticed her presence.
Violet slowly began moving forward.
Even the humanoid cat had been too slow to notice her approach. A lizard should have even weaker instincts.
She gradually drew closer, focusing her attention on the lizard’s neck.
Even though the creature was enormous, her dagger should be capable of severing its neck.
Of course, it all depended on the force behind her strike.
Shua!
Violet swung her dagger with all her strength.
Clang!
The dagger bounced off as though it had struck thick steel, even flying out of her hand.
"Impossible!"
The word escaped her lips and echoed throughout the tunnel.
How could the lizard’s hide be this hard?
At that moment, the lizard opened its enormous mouth.
At first, it was completely dark inside. Then, it suddenly lit up as golden flames erupted from within.
Violet quickly shortened her Mana Thread and pulled her dagger back.
Even though she was directly in front of the lizard’s mouth, she was still faster.
’Infinite flames and skin this tough. How are we supposed to kill it?’ Enzo wondered.
He had thought that since killing the humanoid cat had been so easy, the lizard shouldn’t be that difficult either.
Violet returned to the wooden bridge.
Of course, she once again examined the golden ring.
The more Enzo looked at it, the more mysterious the ring seemed.
’Or is it broken?’
If something were damaged to the point where it no longer had any abilities, it would naturally be considered an ordinary item—nothing more than a material.
’Hmm, what a coincidence.’
Enzo suddenly noticed a large tree being carried downstream.
Strangely, it was pushed away from the whirlpool, spun around it, and then continued downstream.
Violet jumped onto the tree.
The other side was also private property. If she wanted to leave safely, following the river’s current seemed like the best option.
But swimming could be dangerous.
A river this enormous would be ridiculous if it didn’t contain any monsters.
Of course, perhaps there were monsters outside the boundaries of this private property.
Violet stood alert as the strong current sent the tree rushing downstream.
It wasn’t long before Enzo saw the edge of the forest on both sides of the river. That should be the boundary of the private property.
He was still wondering how there could be no monsters at all. Driving them away might be possible, but there was no way monsters wouldn’t eventually return unless some special method had been used.
"Eh..."
Enzo was stunned when he saw a massive fish, roughly the size of a city bus, swimming rapidly through the river, occasionally diving beneath the surface and then leaping back out.
An odd expression appeared on Enzo’s face when he saw who was attacking it.
William and Eliza.
Eliza was the one firing arrows, while William coated them with flames and lightning.
DING!
(Level 25 Monster!)
The fish’s level alone was enough to astonish Enzo.
But the most astonishing thing was still its ability to dodge.
He doubted William and Eliza were below the monster’s level.
Their attacks were certainly frightening. They could actually be at an even higher level.
After all, they had started awakening a year earlier.
Even so, it seemed difficult for them to kill the fish because it kept dodging their attacks. The river’s current only made it even faster.
