The four remaining magicians collapsed to the cobblestones. They groaned in pain. They were totally defeated. The entire fight lasted less than sixty seconds.
Karna lowered his golden blade. The weapon dissolved into harmless light. He stood alone in the quiet alleyway. He adjusted his collar. He prepared to contact his boss again.
But the battle was not over. The real challenge had just arrived.
---
The cobblestone street grew incredibly quiet. The defeated mages lay motionless on the ground. Karna stood perfectly still. He looked down the dark alleyway.
A slow, loud clapping sound echoed through the purple fog. Clap. Clap. Clap.
A massive man stepped out of the deep shadows. He did not wear a ragged black robe. He wore dark metal armor. His arms were incredibly muscular. Dark purple veins pulsed brightly against his pale skin. He wore a jagged, terrifying mask over his face.
"You have some decent skills," the massive man growled. His voice was deep and demonic. "My name is Yadek. I am a high-level Black Magician. Those fools on the ground were just basic foot soldiers. They were nothing but a weak warm-up."
Karna offered a crisp, polite bow. He placed his hand over his heart. "Good evening, Yadek. My name is Karna. I am here to dismantle your entire operation. I highly suggest you surrender peacefully. It will save us both a lot of time."
Yadek threw his head back. He laughed a cruel, booming laugh. The sound shook the glass windows of the nearby houses.
"Surrender?" Yadek mocked loudly. He cracked his giant knuckles. "I crushed the elite knights of this kingdom! I broke their swords with my bare hands! You are just a skinny man in a nice jacket! I am going to tear you apart. I will crush your bones into dust. I will show you true, absolute despair."
Yadek raised both of his hands high into the air. He began to chant a dark, forbidden spell. The words sounded like grinding stones. The air in the alley turned freezing cold. The toxic purple fog rushed toward him. The fog swirled rapidly around his armored body.
"Black Release!" Yadek roared at the top of his lungs.
This was a unique, devastating power. It was a transformation strictly reserved for the absolute highest-ranking Black Magicians. The dark magic flooded his entire bloodstream.
The transformation was horrific and brutal. Yadek's bones cracked loudly as they expanded. His muscles grew to a grotesque, impossible size. His dark metal armor shattered into pieces because his body grew too large to fit inside it. His skin turned a sickening, toxic black color.
He grew to be ten feet tall. Two massive, curved horns ripped violently out of his forehead. His face twisted and mutated. He turned into a terrifying, ogre-like form. A swirling, violent black aura erupted around his giant body. The aura was so intense that it instantly melted the cobblestones directly beneath his feet. The rocks turned into bubbling, gray sludge.

"This is exactly like a boss fight transformation sequence," Karna noted silently in his mind. He remembered his master's funny video game analogies. "The enemy enters phase two. His hit box is much larger now. But his attack power has massively increased."
Yadek charged forward. The ground shook violently with every single step. He looked like an unstoppable nightmare. He swung a massive, black, clawed fist directly at Karna. The fist carried enough raw kinetic force to level a small building.
Karna moved with flawless grace. He leaped backward just in time. The giant fist smashed into the spot where Karna had just stood. A huge crater opened in the street. Dirt and shattered rocks flew everywhere. The shockwave blew the purple fog away.
"You cannot dodge forever!" Yadek screamed. He stomped his massive foot. He swung his other fist. He unleashed a gigantic wave of pure black fire. The black flames roared down the alleyway.
Karna jumped high into the air. He soared over the black fire. The flames scorched the brick walls of the houses below. Karna landed perfectly on top of a tall iron streetlamp. He balanced effortlessly on the narrow pole. He looked down at the giant ogre.
Yadek roared in frustration. He grabbed the iron streetlamp with his massive hands. He ripped the pole entirely out of the ground. He swung it like a giant baseball bat.
Karna backflipped gracefully through the air. He landed safely on the roof of a nearby building. The streetlamp smashed into the side of the house. Bricks tumbled down.
The intense battle escalated rapidly. They exchanged massive attacks. Yadek threw giant, explosive balls of black energy. He crushed stone walls. He trampled wooden carts. He moved surprisingly fast for his huge, ogre-like size. The swirling black aura protected his body like an absolute, impenetrable shield.
Karna fired rapid blasts of golden energy from his hands. The bright golden blasts hit the black aura and simply bounced off. The dark defense was incredibly solid. The ogre shrugged off the attacks completely.
"Your pathetic light magic cannot pierce my Black Release!" Yadek boasted loudly. He pounded his giant, mutated chest with his fists. The sound echoed like a war drum. "I am absolutely invincible! You are nothing but a weak bug!"
"Nobody is invincible," Karna replied smoothly. He did not look worried at all. He stood calmly on the edge of the roof.
Suddenly, Karna felt a familiar telepathic ping in his mind. It was Ken.
"Hey Karna," Ken’s lazy voice echoed in the spymaster's head. "Are you done yet? I finished my entire bag of potato chips. Now I am just sitting on this wooden bench doing nothing. It is getting incredibly boring over here. Also, please try not to break too many buildings. I absolutely do not want to clean up a massive mess later."
Karna smiled a very small, professional smile.
"I am finishing the fight right now, Boss," Karna answered respectfully in his mind. "The target used a transformation skill. I am preparing to eliminate him."
"Sounds good," Ken replied lazily. "Make it flashy. I like flashy moves." The telepathic link closed.
Karna looked down at the roaring, black-skinned ogre. He decided it was time to end this encounter permanently. He needed to use his ultimate weapon. The basic golden blasts were not enough to break the dark aura.
Karna raised his left hand high into the air.
A brilliant, blinding golden light erupted directly from his open palm. The light was incredibly intense. It looked like a miniature sun had just ignited in the dark, foggy city. The sheer brightness pushed the dark purple mist completely away from the buildings.
Karna reached into the light. He summoned his legendary weapon.
He pulled out the Vijaya Bow.
The bow was absolutely massive. It was taller than a normal man. It was constructed entirely of pure, glowing, solidified golden energy. Intricate, ancient magical runes lined the elegant curve of the weapon. The bow radiated a feeling of absolute, undeniable victory. It pulsed with a supreme, god-like power.
