Luna lay flat on a long wooden bench. She rubbed her sleepy eyes. A soft knitted blanket covered her shoulders. She let out a massive yawn. "Why do the bugs have to attack right now? It is nap time. I really do not want to fight bugs. They have too many legs. It is very creepy."
Risa sat on the floor next to Luna. The sweet pink-haired healer hugged her stuffed teddy bear tightly. She looked very nervous. "I do not like bugs. They are very scary. Will they come to our estate?"
Princess Iris walked out of the strategy room. The violet-eyed royal wore her crisp dark blue uniform. Her silver hair fell smoothly over her shoulders. She looked very determined. She watched the news anchors on the screen.
"The other royal factions are already moving," Princess Iris announced softly. She stood next to Sayma. "Look at the screen. The news channels are broadcasting the defenses live."
The television screen changed. The news studio vanished. A live video feed played on the screen.
The camera showed a massive, bustling city in the northern region. The sky was filled with terrifying flying insects. Giant, mutated wasps buzzed through the air. Their wings made a loud, sickening drone. They had glowing red eyes. Huge green beetles crawled down the sides of the stone buildings.
Citizens screamed and ran in pure panic.
Suddenly, a bright, blinding flash of yellow light illuminated the screen.
The 1st Prince, Zeus Belmontia, stepped into the middle of the chaotic street. He wore his pristine white military uniform. He looked incredibly imposing. He did not look scared of the giant bugs. He looked absolutely annoyed.
Zeus raised his right hand. He pointed his palm at the sky.
"Ionized Storm," Zeus commanded coldly.
Massive, jagged bolts of yellow lightning shot from his fingers. The electricity acted like a massive railgun. The lightning pierced straight through a dozen flying wasps in a single second. The bugs exploded into gray ash. The ash rained down on the street.
Zeus did not stop. He summoned a massive dome of electrical energy. The storm domain expanded rapidly. Any bug that touched the yellow light was instantly vaporized. He cleared the entire city block with absolute, uncompromising authority.
"Look at the 1st Prince!" Bob the anchor screamed through the speakers. "He is utilizing his signature lightning magic! He is neutralizing the flying pests with absolute perfection! He looks totally unstoppable!"
Ken slouched his shoulders even further. He popped another chip into his mouth. He chewed it slowly.
"He is trying way too hard," Ken criticized lazily. He pointed a finger at the screen. "Lightning railguns are cool. But he is wasting a massive amount of mana on weak minions. These bugs are just level-one mobs. He should save his ultimate attacks for the boss. He is a terrible gamer."

Naomi laughed a bright, happy laugh. "You always critique their magic, Ken. Zeus is just showing off for the cameras. It is a political demonstration."
"Showing off is exhausting," Ken mumbled. "I prefer sitting down. Sitting down is my ultimate technique."
The television screen split into two different video feeds. The second camera showed a wealthy city in the western province.
Giant centipedes slithered across the pristine white marble streets. They dripped toxic green sludge from their jaws. They snapped their pincers wildly.
The 2nd Princess, Hera Belmontia, walked gracefully into the plaza. She wore a flawless, flowing white and gold gown. She looked perfectly elegant. She did not draw a sword. She did not panic. She looked at the giant centipedes with pure, unfiltered disgust.
Hera raised her delicate hand.
"Regal Gravity," Hera stated smoothly.
She manipulated the gravitational pull in the exact center of the plaza. The massive centipedes suddenly stopped moving. They slammed violently against the cobblestones. The gravity multiplied instantly. The invisible force crushed the giant bugs completely flat. The bugs squished into the ground. They could not move a single leg.
Hera simply walked past the crushed insects. She kept her chin high. Her elite servants followed right behind her. They cleaned up the remaining bugs effortlessly.
"Princess Hera is dominating the western sector!" Sarah the anchor cheered loudly. "Her gravity magic is absolutely flawless! The bugs cannot even take a single step! She is protecting her territory with pure elegance!"
Sayma pushed her glasses up. She clicked her pen. "The 2nd Princess is highly efficient. She controls the battlefield without ruining her dress. It is a very impressive display of raw power."
Ken yawned a massive, dramatic yawn. He stretched his arms above his head.
"Gravity magic is a total cheat code," Ken declared casually. He shoved his hands deep into his pockets. "She just makes the bugs fall over. I respect that. Falling over is my favorite activity. But she still looks very angry. Why is everyone so angry all the time? They need to eat a good sandwich."
Zinia cracked her knuckles. She looked at the television. "They are angry because mutant bugs are destroying their cities, Ken. It is a massive crisis. The entire Empire is under attack."
The broadcast continued to show different regions. Different princes and princesses deployed their respective units. They all wanted to combat the insects. They all wanted to protect their territories.
The emergency turned into a massive, highly publicized demonstration of power. The public watched the royals contain the emergency across the state. The citizens cheered for the different factions. The Succession War temporarily shifted. It was no longer a battle between siblings. It was a race to see who could destroy the bugs fastest.
Laxmi jumped up from the rug. She pumped her fist into the air. "We need to go out there right now! We cannot let the other units get all the glory! I want to burn some bugs on live television!"
Princess Iris turned away from the screen. She looked at her elite vanguard. Her violet eyes were incredibly focused. She drew her silver rapier. The blade gleamed in the sunlight.
"Laxmi is right," Princess Iris commanded softly. Her voice carried undeniable leadership. "We have our own sector to protect. The outer districts are vulnerable. We must deploy immediately. We will show the Empire the true strength of the 13th Unit."
The elite girls nodded in perfect unison. They grabbed their weapons. They prepared to march into the chaotic streets. They were entirely ready to face the mutant bug invasion.
Ken Eliot let out a long, miserable groan. He looked at his bag of potato chips. He knew his peaceful morning was officially over.
---
"Do we really have to go outside?" Ken complained loudly. He slouched his shoulders as far as they could possibly go. He stared at the ceiling. "There are giant bugs outside. I absolutely hate bugs. They have entirely too many legs. Six legs are unnecessary. It is a biological mistake."
Naomi stood up from the sofa. She smiled warmly. She gently grabbed Ken by the sleeve of his untucked shirt. She pulled him up.
