"You are coming with us, slacker," Naomi teased playfully. "You can hide behind me. I will slice the bugs in half. You just have to stand there and look pretty."

"I always look pretty," Ken bragged lazily. He popped his collar with one hand. "But my shoes are going to get totally ruined by bug juice. Bug juice is very hard to wash out. I need hazard pay for this mission."

"I will buy you limited edition snacks later," Naomi promised. "Let us go. The Princess is waiting."

The 13th Unit marched out of the estate. They stepped onto the dirt roads of the outer districts. The sky above was filled with strange, buzzing sounds. The citizens were hiding inside their houses. The streets were mostly empty.

But the bugs were everywhere.

Giant, mutated praying mantises leaped across the rooftops. They swung their massive, scythe-like arms. Huge green beetles crashed through wooden fences. The bugs acted mindlessly. They destroyed everything in their path.

"Vanguard, form up!" Princess Iris ordered firmly.

Laxmi dashed forward. She laughed a loud, excited laugh. Orange flames roared to life around her hands. A giant praying mantis dropped from a roof. It aimed its scythe at Laxmi.

"Fire Torrent!" Laxmi yelled. She threw a massive, concentrated blast of fire. The fire engulfed the giant mantis entirely. The bug shrieked and turned into black ash. Laxmi grinned wildly. "One bug down! A million more to go! This is the best day ever!"

Zinia stomped her boots onto the dirt path. Three giant beetles charged toward her. They lowered their thick, armored heads.

"Stone Wall!" Zinia roared deeply. Massive slabs of solid rock ripped out of the ground. The rock walls blocked the narrow street completely. The beetles crashed into the stone. The impact sounded like a loud drum. The bugs bounced backward, totally dazed.

Ira stood perfectly still. Her pale face showed zero emotion. She raised her hands. Two long, high-pressure water whips formed instantly. She lashed out. The water whips wrapped tightly around the dizzy beetles. She yanked her arms backward. The giant bugs flipped completely upside down. Their soft bellies were exposed to the sky.

"Target balance compromised," Ira stated flatly in her robotic voice.

Luna shuffled out from behind Zinia. The sleepy lightning user rubbed her eyes. She let out a massive yawn. She pointed two fingers at the overturned beetles.

"Zap," Luna mumbled lazily.

A brilliant, blinding bolt of yellow lightning cracked through the air. The electricity struck the wet beetles. The bugs twitched violently and stopped moving. They were completely knocked out.

"Great teamwork, everyone," Sayma praised politely. She pushed her glasses up. She held her notebook. "The bugs lack tactical coordination. They rely entirely on swarm tactics. We can dismantle them systematically."

Ken Eliot stood at the absolute back of the group. He slouched his posture. He shoved his hands deep into his pockets. He chewed a strawberry candy. He watched the girls fight. He did not look scared at all. He just looked incredibly bored.

He watched a giant flying wasp buzz towards Princess Iris.

Ken did not panic. He did not use a massive, flashy spell. He kept his hands hidden in his pockets. He simply squinted his left eye. He stuck his tongue out of the corner of his mouth.

"Pew," Ken whispered very softly. The word made zero sound.

He fired a tiny, invisible cyan mana bullet. The bullet zipped across the street. It tapped the flying wasp right on the wing.

The wasp instantly teleported three meters to the right. The sudden spatial shift ruined its flying momentum. The bug crashed hilariously into a brick wall. It slid down the wall and landed in a pile of garbage. It did not get back up.

"Whoops," Ken mumbled lazily to himself. "Flying bugs should really look where they are going. Brick walls are very solid. Basic physics."

Princess Iris did not see Ken fire the bullet. She thought the bug just lost control. She raised her silver rapier. She pointed the blade down the street.

"Keep pushing forward!" Princess Iris commanded. "We must secure this sector! Do not let them reach the residential homes!"

The 13th Unit fought brilliantly. They moved down the street like a flawless machine. They pushed the bug swarm back.

Meanwhile, the news broadcast continued to show the massive global event. The magical television cameras flew across the Empire. They captured the different royal factions in action.

The 3rd Prince, Poseidon Belmontia, stood on a large wooden dock near the ocean. He wore a loose green shirt. He flexed his muscles. Giant mutated crabs crawled out of the water. They snapped their massive claws.

Poseidon laughed a loud, boisterous laugh. He raised his hands.

"Liquid Molecular Control!" Poseidon shouted.

The ocean water surged upward. It formed massive, high-pressure water blades. The blades spun rapidly. They sliced through the air. They chopped the giant crabs into pieces effortlessly. Poseidon grinned for the floating cameras. He loved the attention.

In a different region, the 4th Prince, Ares Belmontia, rode a massive, armored Battle Tiger through a sandy desert.

A swarm of giant desert scorpions surrounded him. Ares did not use a sword. He jumped off his tiger. He landed directly in front of a giant scorpion. He pulled his fist back. He used his Kinetic Accumulation magic. He punched the scorpion right in the face.

The punch released a massive, explosive kinetic force. The blast blew the scorpion completely backward. The shockwave scattered the entire swarm. Ares roared loudly. He looked incredibly bloodthirsty.

In a bright, sunny city, the 5th Prince, Apollo Belmontia, stood on a balcony.

He wore a tailored military uniform covered in medals. His flawless pale skin shined in the sun. He looked incredibly vain. Giant flying bugs approached his building.

Apollo raised his hand gracefully. "Photonic Radiation," he stated arrogantly.

Brilliant solar lasers shot from his fingers. The lasers melted the bugs instantly. Apollo turned his head. He looked directly at a floating news camera. He offered a perfect, handsome smile. He made sure the lighting caught his good side.

Ken watched the broadcast through a window of a nearby electronic shop. He slouched his shoulders. He shook his head.

"Apollo is a total narcissist," Ken critiqued casually. He chewed his candy. "He cares way too much about his screen time. He is just posing for the camera. He looks like a cheap model for a perfume commercial. Real heroes do not pose. They just take a nap."

In another sector, the 6th Princess, Athena Belmontia, fought a group of giant spiders.

She wore elegant silver armor. She moved with pure strategic logic. She raised her hand. "Geometric Mana-Constructs," she commanded.

Solid, unbreakable cubes of pure mana formed around the giant spiders. The bugs were completely trapped inside the clear boxes. They banged against the walls, but they could not escape. Athena neutralized the threat without causing any messy destruction.

"Now that is very efficient," Ken nodded approvingly. "Box them up and go home. Zero cleanup required. I highly respect her strategy. It saves a lot of manual labor."
