"I am completely out of snacks," Ken complained loudly. He shoved his hands deep into his pockets. He looked incredibly bored. "This quest is taking way too long. The drop rates for these bugs are terrible. They do not drop any gold coins. They do not drop any rare items. They just leave messy puddles on the ground. This is a very poorly designed game. The developers need to fix the loot system."
Naomi walked over to him. She wiped a smudge of dirt from her cheek. She smiled a very bright, genuine smile.
"Stop complaining, Ken," Naomi chuckled softly. She looked at him with fond affection. "We just cleared our third sector. That is sixty points. We are doing incredibly well. You can buy more snacks later."
"Sixty points cannot buy me a new bag of chips right now," Ken argued lazily. He gave her a goofy grin. "I am functioning on zero calories. My ultimate power is fading."
"Your ultimate power is annoying me," Laxmi laughed. The fire user walked over and patted his back. "But you are very good at it."
Ken looked around the quiet street. The bugs were defeated. The citizens were safe inside their homes. The loud noises of the battle were finally over. He felt a little bit of relief. He just wanted to go back to the estate. He wanted to sit on the couch and watch television.
"Awesome," Ken smiled his goofy smile. He stretched his arms high into the air. "Now let us find a restaurant. Defending the city makes me very hungry. I want a massive burger. A burger with extra cheese."
The allied units dispersed further into the capital. The different factions systematically cleared the monster forces. They used their signature magical abilities to contain the massive threat. They worked tirelessly to secure their rewards. The city slowly became safe again. The 13th Unit prepared to move to the next sector, totally ready to earn more points and finish the chaotic day.
---
A giant green beetle charged down the street. It clicked its sharp pincers. The bug moved very fast. It wanted to bite someone. It aimed straight for the back of the group.
Ken Eliot stood on the sidewalk. He slouched his shoulders. He wore his navy blue suit pants. His white shirt hung completely untucked over his belt. He did not wear a tie. His black hair stuck up in wild spikes. He shoved his left hand into his pocket. He held a large bag of sour cream and onion potato chips in his right hand.
He did not look at the giant beetle. He reached into the bag. He pulled out a large potato chip. He tossed the chip into the air. He opened his mouth. He caught the chip perfectly on his tongue.
Crunch. Crunch. Crunch.

He chewed the chip loudly. The green beetle leaped into the air. It opened its jaws.
A red blur zipped across the street. Naomi dashed right in front of Ken. Her green wind magic swirled around her boots. She spun her twin silver daggers. She slashed her blades in a fast cross shape. She sliced the green beetle entirely in half. The bug turned into gray ash. The ash blew away in the wind.
Naomi turned around. She slid her daggers back into their sheaths. She smiled a very warm, bright smile. Her green eyes sparked with genuine amusement.
"You really need to pay attention, Ken," Naomi teased softly. She reached into his bag. She took a potato chip. She popped it into her mouth. "That bug almost took a bite out of your suit."
"The bug just wanted some of my chips," Ken mumbled lazily. He swallowed his food. "These chips are fantastic. They have the perfect amount of salt. But I am not sharing with mutant insects. Bugs have terrible table manners."
Naomi laughed a quiet, happy laugh. She stood close to him. She liked his goofy jokes. She looked back at the street.
The battle was massive. The 13th Unit fought a huge swarm of mutant bugs. The insects crawled over the brick buildings. They covered the cobblestones. Giant wasps buzzed in the sky. Huge centipedes slithered on the ground. The swarm looked absolutely endless.
Laxmi jumped over a broken cart. The fire user grinned a wild, excited grin. Bright orange flames roared around her fists.
"Burn!" Laxmi shouted loudly.
She threw a massive fireball. The fire crashed into a group of giant wasps. The flames engulfed the bugs. The wasps turned into ash. Laxmi punched the air. She loved fighting. She wanted to roast every single bug in the city.
"Do not waste your mana, Laxmi," Sayma stated politely. The Vice-Captain pushed her thick glasses up the bridge of her nose. She stood near a stone fountain. She opened her neat notebook. She clicked her pen. "The swarm is too large. We cannot fight them one by one. The bugs are replacing their numbers very fast."
Zinia cracked her knuckles. The strong earth mage stomped her boots on the cobblestones. Solid rock walls shot out of the ground. The walls blocked a group of charging beetles.
"Sayma is right," Zinia agreed. Her deep voice carried across the street. "I can build walls. But the bugs just climb over the stone. We need to stop them from spreading. We need to trap them."
Ira stood perfectly still near the wall. Her pale face showed zero emotion. She raised her hands. Two long water whips formed in the air. The water cracked like real leather. She lashed out. She grabbed the legs of a giant centipede. She yanked the bug upside down.
"Statistically speaking," Ira noted in her flat, robotic voice. "The insect swarm is using a scatter tactic. They surround us from all sides. A scattered enemy reduces our offensive efficiency by sixty percent."
Luna sat on a wooden bench. The lightning user rubbed her sleepy eyes. She let out a massive, dramatic yawn. A soft knitted blanket covered her shoulders.
"They are running around too much," Luna complained lazily. She pointed two fingers at a wasp. "Zap," she mumbled. A bright yellow lightning bolt shocked the bug. The wasp fell to the ground. "I do not like tracking fast targets. It makes me very tired. Can we just put them all in a box?"
Risa hid behind the wooden bench. The sweet pink-haired healer hugged her stuffed teddy bear tightly. She looked very nervous. "A box sounds like a very good idea. I do not want the bugs to run away. They might bite someone."
Princess Iris stood in the center of the street. She held her silver rapier. Her violet eyes scanned the chaotic battlefield. She looked at her elite vanguard. She looked at the endless swarm of monsters. She knew they needed a better plan.
"We must consolidate the enemy," Princess Iris commanded smoothly. "We need to group them together. If we cluster the swarm into one specific area, we can eliminate them with a single strike."
