Ken stepped forward. He stood directly in front of the cracking earth net. The bugs screeched loudly inside the stone trap. Ken did not look scared at all. He looked incredibly bored. He raised his right hand. He was completely ready to reveal a brand new, highly ridiculous anime technique to his chaotic family.
---
Ken Eliot stood in front of the massive earth net. The solid rock dome shook violently. The giant mutant bugs smashed against the inside walls. Small cracks spread across the gray stone. Gray dust fell onto the cobblestones. The swarm desperately wanted to escape.
Ken raised his right hand into the air. He did not look panicked. He slouched his shoulders. He kept his left hand shoved deep into his pocket. His white shirt flapped loosely over his belt. He put on a totally goofy, highly exaggerated expression of intense focus.
"Alright, everyone," Ken announced lazily. "Prepare to witness my absolute genius. I have been practicing this move in my dreams. It is a very cool anime trope. It is called a weapon summon."
He snapped his fingers softly. Snap.
The air in front of Ken instantly shimmered. A bright, glowing cyan light materialized in his hand. The light swirled rapidly. It expanded and stretched. It took a solid, physical shape.
Ken grabbed the shape. The bright light faded away.
Ken held a massive, specialized crossbow.
The weapon looked absolutely incredible. The main body of the crossbow was made of sleek, dark metal. It looked very modern and highly advanced. Intricate, glowing cyan runes were carved into the metal frame. The bow section was extremely wide.
But the most unique part of the weapon was the firing mechanism. The crossbow did not have a single string. It featured exactly eight distinct, glowing strings. The strings stretched tightly across the metal frame. They hummed with pure magical energy.
Ken rested the massive crossbow against his hip. He looked at the weapon with a goofy, proud smile.
"Ta-da!" Ken cheered happily. He pointed a finger at the crossbow. "I present to you the Ultimate Friendship Launcher. I just made that name up right now. It sounds very cool. I should probably trademark it."
The elite girls stared at the massive weapon. They were completely stunned.
Laxmi dropped her jaw. Her golden eyes widened in pure excitement. She ran over to Ken. She looked closely at the dark metal. "Whoa! That is a giant crossbow! Where did you hide that? Did you pull it out of your pocket?"
"It is a magical construct," Sayma stated politely. The Vice-Captain pushed her thick glasses up the bridge of her nose. She clicked her pen rapidly. She looked incredibly fascinated. "You manifested a highly complex physical weapon using pure mana. That requires immense concentration. But why does it possess eight separate strings? A standard crossbow only utilizes one string for kinetic propulsion."
The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
Ken let out a loud, dramatic yawn. He tapped the top of the crossbow.
"It has eight strings because I am too lazy to power it myself," Ken explained casually. He gave them a big, relaxed grin. "Shooting a giant energy blast requires a massive amount of mana. It requires cardio. I absolutely hate cardio. So, I built a weapon that runs on the power of teamwork."
Naomi crossed her arms. She smiled a warm, amused smile. She shook her head. "You built a weapon that makes us do all the hard work for you. You are the ultimate slacker, Ken."
"I am a master of delegation," Ken corrected her smoothly. He pointed at the eight glowing strings. "The concept is very simple. I hold the heavy metal part. You guys pull the strings. The strings act as magical conduits. Your combined magical energy flows directly into the crossbow. The weapon merges all your different elemental magic into one single, massive blast. It is exactly like a spirit bomb from my favorite cartoon."
Princess Iris walked over. Her violet eyes sparkled with genuine admiration. She looked at the clever, lazy design. She smiled a beautiful, gentle smile. "It is a wonderful idea, Ken. You united our strengths perfectly."
"I just want to finish the fight so I can eat a sweet bun," Ken mumbled lazily.
The earth net groaned loudly. A huge chunk of stone fell off the dome. Zinia gritted her teeth. She planted her boots firmly. "We need to shoot this thing right now! The wall is going to break in ten seconds!"
Ken lifted the massive crossbow. He braced the dark metal frame against his shoulder. He aimed the front of the weapon directly at the center of the cracking rock dome.
"Alright, team!" Ken shouted cheerfully. "Grab a string! Give me your energy! Let us do the ultimate friendship attack!"
The girls did not hesitate for a single microsecond. They completely trusted him. They rushed forward. They gathered tightly around Ken.
Naomi grabbed the first glowing string. Her green wind magic instantly flared to life. Bright green energy flowed from her hands. The energy traveled down the string and entered the dark metal frame. The first rune on the crossbow lit up with a brilliant green light.
"Take my wind, farm boy!" Naomi smiled warmly.
Laxmi grabbed the second string. She grinned a wild, fierce grin. Roaring orange fire magic poured from her palms. The fire rushed down the string. The second rune ignited with a bright orange glow. "Burn them to ashes!"
Zinia kept one hand pointed at the earth net. She reached out with her other hand. She grabbed the third string. Solid, deep brown earth magic pumped into the weapon. The third rune glowed brown. "Smash their shells!" Zinia roared deeply.
Sayma grabbed the fourth string. The intelligent tactician pushed her glasses up. She channeled her pure, golden light magic. The golden energy flowed smoothly down the string. The fourth rune illuminated with a bright yellow hue. "My barrier magic will condense the blast," Sayma noted politely.
Ira stood perfectly still. Her pale face showed zero emotion. She grabbed the fifth string. High-pressure blue water magic washed into the weapon. The fifth rune glowed a deep sapphire blue. "Statistically speaking, this combined elemental output will be absolutely devastating," Ira stated in her robotic voice.
Luna rubbed her sleepy eyes. She let out a massive yawn. She grabbed the sixth string. Crackling yellow lightning magic zipped down the cord. The sixth rune sparked with electricity. "Please shoot it fast. I want to take a nap," Luna complained lazily.
Risa walked up timidly. The sweet pink-haired healer hugged her teddy bear with one arm. She used her free hand to grab the seventh string. Soft, gentle green nature magic floated down the string. The seventh rune glowed with a peaceful light. "I hope the blast does not hurt the trees," Risa whispered.
Princess Iris stepped forward. She stood right beside Ken. She grabbed the eighth and final string. She channeled her immense, regal royal aura. Brilliant, blinding white holy magic poured into the crossbow. The final rune shined like a bright star.
