Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 254: RewardIf it weren’t for the Qio Vines growing around them, these Full Vines would have grown right into the sea.
Moira Lynch checked the growth status of the Full Vines. They were ready for harvest, but she decided to wait a little longer.
’These Full Vines are still too small,’ she thought. ’I want to wait for them to grow bigger. Anyway, the Full Vines in my space will last for a while, so there’s no rush.’
After inspecting the Full Vines, Moira Lynch turned her attention to the Qio Vines.
Compared to the last time she was here, the area covered by the Qio Vines had expanded considerably, and another batch of seeds had ripened.
Beneath the Qio Vines, a school of fish was scrambling to eat the seeds.
But even so, the seeds were still visibly numerous.
This made Moira Lynch’s desire to hire someone even stronger.
After collecting the new batch of Qio Rice into her space, Moira Lynch continued to search for islands. She would first improve the soil with Land Recovery Liquid, then plant Full Vines on them.
If an island was too small, she would first plant a circle of Qio Vines around it to increase its surface area.
This prevented the Full Vines from being submerged in seawater as they grew.
This time, besides Full Vines, Moira Lynch also planted Soldier Food Rattan.
However, this wasn’t an ordinary Soldier Food Rattan; the entire plant was pink.
According to Patience, the pink Soldier Food Rattan was an extremely rare mutated variety. A regular Soldier Food Rattan had a one-in-a-thousand chance of becoming a mutated one.
After mutating, the Soldier Food Rattan tasted a thousand times better than the ordinary kind. It had a soft and chewy texture, almost like eating gelatin.
However, because the stats of a mutated Soldier Food Rattan were not fixed, its specific effects could only be determined after a detailed analysis.
But without exception, even the worst mutated Soldier Food Rattan was far superior to a regular one.
With so many Soldier Food Rattans in her space, for only one to have mutated... Moira Lynch decided she would cultivate it carefully.
It was worth noting that the mutated Soldier Food Rattan was sterile.
As the saying goes: ’I was neutered, but I grew stronger.’
This was also why mutated Soldier Food Rattans were so rare.
This kind of Soldier Food Rattan could fetch a high price at an auction.
Moira Lynch selected a small island and planted the mutated Soldier Food Rattan.
’It’s about time,’ Moira thought, and poured all the remaining Land Recovery Liquid into the sea.
Looking at the report in her hands, the entirety of Cloudsea Planet had become much more bountiful than before, and life now existed on it. However, the seawater itself still hadn’t changed much.
It was an entire planet, after all. Changing it would take a long, long time.
However, according to the perceptions of Moira Lynch’s own spiritual power, the ocean was indeed changing, albeit quietly.
The next day, just after Moira Lynch had finished breakfast, the doorbell rang. It was rapid and insistent, as if the person on the other side was in a great hurry.
She opened the door to find an excited Aaron Ford.
"Captain Ford, seeing you here must mean the test results are out."
Aaron Ford nodded.
"The situation with the Water Stain Grass is about what you described. It’s not very nutritious, but it’s not completely devoid of nutrients like Konjac either. Most importantly, it’s easy to grow and filling."
"What about the fish?" Moira Lynch asked.
Shane Rhodes and the others didn’t know what had happened yesterday, so they all gathered around, asking what was going on.
Moira Lynch didn’t hide anything and recounted the events of the previous day, though she did, of course, omit the part about the cotton bug mycelium and Black Wolf hunting a large pack of wild boars.
"There are really fish? Are they edible?" Kai York asked, looking at Aaron Ford.
Aaron Ford nodded and said with great certainty, "They’re edible. They taste about the same as regular fish, just with a few more bones, possibly due to mutation. They feed on insect eggs and newly hatched larvae in the water, and their Life Energy is incredibly robust. The base is planning to farm them on a large scale."
This would probably create quite a few more jobs.
In fact, with the ongoing development of Veridian Prime, more and more people were going there, which naturally left positions at the base vacant.
To avoid causing a panic by replacing personnel on a large scale, or worse, arousing suspicion from other countries, they could only proceed slowly.
It had to be said, this feeling of quietly making a fortune was just too good.
In a few more days, the planetary auction organized by SoySauceDrunkard would begin.
Thanks to the Learning Machine, they now understood the properties of those ore veins like the back of their hands. This not only saved them a lot of wasted effort but also allowed them to put up a smokescreen to mislead other countries and reduce their competition.
"That said, I’m here to deliver a reward to Moira Lynch."
"The base’s rewards are usually filling foods like Soldier Food Rattan, but I figured you all probably don’t like eating it. So, I took the liberty of swapping it for other foods. The quantity is definitely less than the Soldier Food Rattan, but I hope you’ll like them."
After speaking, he gestured to the cart of food he had brought with him.
Moira Lynch glanced at the items. It was all sorts of snacks and mini hot pot kits—basically, stuff young people loved to eat.
Moira Lynch’s eyes lit up as she looked at everything. "We love them, we love them! We absolutely love them."
She had Shane Rhodes and the others carry everything inside.
After seeing Aaron Ford off, Moira Lynch looked at the other three and said, "Hot pot today?"
"I’ll go get the meat."
"I’ll go pick some vegetables."
"Then I’ll get the hot pot base ready."
Moira Lynch watched the three of them leave. ’Looks like there’s nothing left for me to do.’
’Well, I guess I’ll just have to make the sacrifice and wait to eat.’
Soon enough, a steaming hot pot was ready to go.
The group began to eat with great relish.
When they had mostly finished eating, Kai York, with a secretive air, suddenly tossed two white, thread-like ingredients into the pot.
After about thirty seconds, he fished the two items out of the pot.
"What did you just cook?" Shane Rhodes asked.
His gaze fell on the two ingredients in Kai York’s bowl, and he found them vaguely familiar.
"Tendrils from a Soul Resurrection Grass. The old man back home treasures this stuff more than his own eyeballs—even his favorite grandson has fallen out of favor. I want to see if this thing is really as good as the description says."
With that, Kai York took a bite. Instantly, a bitter taste filled his mouth, and his entire body froze.
But, following the principle that good things shouldn’t go to waste, Kai York steeled himself and choked down the two Soul Resurrection Grass tendrils.
"That’s disgusting," Kai York commented, his face twisted in a grimace.
Moira Lynch grabbed a pack of tissues from the nearby sofa and thoughtfully handed it to him.
Kai York took the tissues. "Moira, are these for me to wipe my mouth? I don’t need this many, though."
Moira Lynch smiled. "It’s fine if you don’t use them all now. I’m sure you’ll need them soon enough."
After saying that, Moira Lynch even took two deliberate steps to the side, putting some distance between them.
