Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 286 - 276: Rainbow Dye-BugAfter returning from Cloudsea Planet, Moira Lynch checked on the situations on her other planets.
Things on Veridian Prime were proceeding in an orderly fashion; Moira could even see the outline of a fledgling city.
As expected, when it came to infrastructure development, no country could compare to Cathaya.
The mining operations on the other two Garbage Stars were also proceeding smoothly, though there was a bit of trouble on Mochina.
It wasn’t a major issue—just some people who had the absurd idea of planting their own country’s flag on Mochina.
Some even wanted to leave the designated mining zones to explore other parts of Mochina.
This was something Moira would absolutely not permit. She had only allowed them to mine on the planet, not to claim it as their own.
Give them an inch, and they’ll take a mile.
The moment she took one step back, they would find a way to shove three steps forward.
They wouldn’t see her as kind and benevolent; they’d just see her as a pushover and relentlessly press their advantage.
Fortunately, Moira had kept an ace up her sleeve when drafting the contracts.
At the end of every contract, she had added a clause stating that she held the final right of interpretation.
She hadn’t hidden this fact, either—it was laid out in the open for all to see.
It was a blatant message to everyone: sign it, or get out of the way for someone who will.
There were robots on Mochina as well, and with the Golden and Red Celestial Eyes on patrol, anyone found crossing the boundary would be eliminated instantly.
At times like this, she had to be merciless and give them no opportunity to push their luck.
After surveying her planets, Moira finally withdrew her gaze, satisfied.
Before long, a chaotic ruckus erupted from downstairs. She didn’t need to guess what was going on.
Moira popped a lollipop in her mouth, walked out of her room, and went to the top of the stairs on the second floor.
Right then, in the first-floor living room, a chaotic farce was unfolding.
A literal madhouse.
Moira watched as Kai York, Shane Rhodes, and Hugh Finch engaged in a display of incredible agility, practically running on the walls downstairs.
Next thing she knew, the three of them had taken their fight from inside the house to the yard.
Wanting a front-row seat to the drama, Moira naturally followed them outside.
Then she saw Kai York, pursued by the other two, suddenly sprout a pair of azure wings and take to the sky.
"Boss, you two should just give up! The sky is my home turf. Besides, I had good intentions! Don’t be so petty."
Despite his words, the confident and provocative expression on Kai York’s face was simply adding fuel to the fire.
Could they tolerate this?
No, they absolutely could not.
Immediately, Moira saw Shane Rhodes and Hugh Finch take out their Flying Devices.
Apparently, Kai York had forgotten about that possibility.
Seeing the two of them chasing him on their Flying Devices, he turned and fled.
The wings on his back were a manifestation of his Talent, making them far more agile and convenient than a Flying Device.
’Has Kai York’s Talent evolved?’
Moira thought about the wings she had just seen on Kai York’s back.
After learning about the trio’s Talents, she had previously tasked Patience with gathering all relevant information.
She was certain that Kai York’s awakened Hurricane Talent shouldn’t allow him to grow wings—unless his Talent had evolved, or he’d had a secondary awakening and gained a Flying Talent.
The latter seemed impossible. Age issues aside, if he’d truly had a secondary awakening, Kai York would never have kept it a secret from them.
That left only the first possibility.
But she would have to wait for Patience to get back to be sure.
While Moira was lost in thought, Kai York had already been caught and pinned to the ground by Shane Rhodes and Hugh Finch.
"I found this not long ago. You’re in for a treat, kid,"
Hugh Finch said, pulling a small vial from his pocket.
Inside the vial was a multicolored Dye-Bug.
Moira recognized the bug at a glance, and information about it immediately surfaced in her mind.
It was a Rainbow Dye-Bug, a mutated variant of the standard Dye-Bug, with stronger and longer-lasting effects.
A regular Dye-Bug only colors the surface, but a Rainbow Dye-Bug dyed everything, even the internal organs. From the inside out, not even the teeth were spared, and the effects took about half a year to fade completely.
Fortunately, the bug was still completely harmless to the human body.
In fact, some studies even suggested that using a Dye-Bug to color one’s hair and skin could protect them and even slow the aging process.
Amid Kai York’s bloodcurdling screams, a human rainbow was born.
A Rainbow Dye-Bug doesn’t create neat, orderly stripes like a real rainbow; its dyeing process is completely random.
As a result, Kai York looked like he’d been pelted with paint-filled, rainbow-colored water balloons.
"AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!"
Deafening laughter erupted from the villa.
Facing the merciless laughter from Moira, Shane, and Hugh, Kai York was so angry he looked like he could breathe fire. "This is unfair! Boss, Hugh, it was two against one!"
Shane Rhodes finally laughed his fill, rubbing the stiff muscles in his face. He shot Kai a cool glance and said, "Who promised you a fair fight? Besides, you had it coming. What did you expect after poking us in the eyes?"
Hugh Finch nodded in agreement. "You can escape a disaster sent from the heavens, but you can’t escape one you bring upon yourself."
"You... you guys..."
Kai York pointed at the two of them, his face a mask of grief and indignation, and then...
"AHAHAHAHAHA!!!"
"AHHH! I’m done with you! From now on, you go your way, and I’ll go mine! We’ll mind our own business and stay out of each other’s lives!"
With that, he stormed off without a backward glance.
Watching Kai York’s determined, retreating figure, a rare pang of guilt struck Moira. "Is he going to be okay? Maybe we went a little too far."
At this, Shane Rhodes waved a dismissive hand. "Don’t worry about him. He’s ’disowned’ me eight hundred times since we were kids, but it’s never been for real. Besides, in that state? He’ll be back before you know it."
As he spoke, Shane Rhodes glanced at his watch, then held up three fingers and began a countdown.
"Three."
"Two."
"One."
As he said the last word, Kai York’s figure appeared in the doorway, just as predicted.
Under their combined gaze, he stomped heavily back to his room.
"See? What did I tell you?" Shane Rhodes said with a shrug.
Over the next few days, with her spiritual power depleted and Patience away, Moira didn’t go out, choosing instead to stay put at home.
Meanwhile, the Reboot Potion and Elf Potion, both made from Elf Tree Leaves, were once again causing a massive uproar.
The Reboot Potion, which could reset a person’s Talent, gave hope to the many players who had awakened "useless" Talents.
The Elf Potion was even more astonishing—it was a Medicine capable of altering a person’s very genes.
Although Moira had sold Genetic Potions before, the physical transformations they caused didn’t align with most people’s sense of aesthetics.
