Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 287 - 277: Patience’s ReturnBut elves were different.
In the popular imagination, elves were always beautiful and powerful.
Now that there was a chance to become an elf right before them, few people could resist the temptation.
Moira Lynch had originally thought the Reboot Potion would have higher sales, but unexpectedly, the number of people wanting to buy the Elf Potion far exceeded those interested in the Reboot Potion.
Every day, large numbers of people left comments on her shop page, asking her to sell the Elf Potion.
But this was something Moira Lynch couldn’t control; after all, the stock was random.
So Moira Lynch simply ignored their requests.
[DING! Intelligent Brain upgrade complete.]
A mechanical voice rang out, and Moira Lynch’s eyes instantly lit up.
Finally, Patience was back.
And along with Patience’s return came her spiritual power.
Feeling the surging spiritual power within her, Moira Lynch almost burst into tears. ’It’s been so many days. I’ve missed this so much.’
"Patience, besides what you mentioned before, did this upgrade add any new functions?" Moira Lynch asked.
’After spending so much money, there ought to be some new features.’
"Of course there are," Patience’s cheerful voice replied.
Moira Lynch immediately noticed a difference.
Patience’s voice had become smoother, and the emotions within it seemed fuller.
"I’ve just updated with the largest and most comprehensive information database in the interstellar network. I can now handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Also, I can project collected data for multiple people to view, sort of like a shared memory palace."
"Handle multiple tasks simultaneously? You couldn’t do that before?" Moira Lynch asked curiously.
"I could before, of course, but not as many at once, and not as fast as I can now."
"In short, you’re looking at a brand-new Patience! Also, I’ve added another important function: I can now connect directly to the Intelligent Brains on Mechas and starships."
"You couldn’t do that before?"
"Of course not. The Intelligent Brains installed in Mechas and starships are different from civilian ones like us."
"But this time, because I’m from the first batch of sentient Intelligent Brains, I received a special upgrade. It allows me to function like those military-grade Intelligent Brains."
Listening to Patience’s cheerful tone, Moira could tell just how happy this made it.
It was just a shame they didn’t have a starship or a Mecha right now.
’No, wait, I do. I have lots of them in my dimensional space.’
But Moira Lynch really wasn’t a fan of those Mechas. They were just too ugly, completely different from the Mechas and starships she had imagined.
Besides, starships weren’t just of little use in the game right now—they were completely useless. So she wasn’t in a hurry.
Now that Patience was back, Moira Lynch immediately thought of Kai York’s situation.
After she explained Kai York’s situation in great detail, Patience quickly provided an answer.
"Based on your description, Master, I speculate that Kai York may have consumed a Green Wind Feather. It’s a fruit that looks like a feather. When someone with a Wind Talent eats it, it can trigger a directional evolution—in other words, they grow wings."
"This fruit is only effective for those with a Wind Talent. If anyone else eats it, it’s just a tasteless, unappetizing fruit."
Just then, Moira Lynch’s message window suddenly flashed twice.
[Kai York: Come down and eat.]
Ever since they got their Intelligent Brains, calling people had turned into sending messages. The excuse they used was that they were "getting used to the presence of the Intelligent Brains."
Arriving on the first floor, Moira saw it was Hugh Finch’s turn to cook. On the table were four steaming dishes, a soup, and purple Qio Rice.
This kind of meal, once the most ordinary of fare, was now something few families could afford.
The group was used to chatting while they ate.
"By the way, patrols in Sector A seem to have increased quite a bit recently. Did something happen?" Moira Lynch asked.
As soon as her spiritual power returned, Moira Lynch had eagerly scanned the entire base from top to bottom. She discovered that the patrols in Sector A and Sector B were several times more frequent than usual.
Especially in Sector A. There was a guard post every few steps. ’What are they up to?’
"It seems there’s a killer in the base who’s specifically targeting people in Sector B. In just a few days, more than a dozen people have died, and all of them were players," Shane Rhodes said.
"Then what does that have to do with Sector A?" Kai York asked.
Hugh Finch gave him a look that said, ’How can you be so dense?’ and explained, "The players who can afford to live in Sector B generally have above-average strength and Talents. Since all the victims are players, the base authorities think the killer might be targeting players specifically."
"Sector A is heavily patrolled, making it a difficult target. Sector B has patrols too, but not as many as Sector A. Plus, those patrols aren’t regular army units, so there are more loopholes to exploit."
"So the base suspects a spy is behind this?" Moira Lynch asked.
Shane Rhodes nodded. "Not just suspecting, they’re certain. When the bodies were found, all their bones were broken. It looks like they were tortured for information and then died from a broken neck. The perpetrator seems to be looking for something."
"So now the base is strictly investigating everyone who has recently entered. It’s best if we don’t go out much either, to avoid getting into trouble."
Moira Lynch nodded. "I’m not much for going out anyway."
That’s what she said, but Moira Lynch took the matter to heart.
If a spy had really infiltrated the base, it was definitely not a good thing.
After dinner, Moira Lynch lay on her bed with her eyes closed and extended her spiritual power.
’Since this person only attacks people in Sector B, they might still be in Sector B.’
Moira Lynch decided to focus her search on Sector B.
To find the person, Moira Lynch searched meticulously, covering the area inch by inch, not even sparing the mouse holes.
’Wait, are all the mice in Sector B this fat?’
’No, that looks like a hamster.’
’How did this little thing survive until now? And it seems to be living quite comfortably.’
Following the hamster hole downwards, Moira Lynch soon found the reason.
The hamster was actually growing mushrooms underground.
It was truly a bizarre sight.
So, Moira Lynch collected the hamster and its mushrooms into her dimensional space, deciding to study them later. The main priority now was finding the person.
After turning the entire Sector B upside down, she hadn’t found the person, but she had discovered quite a few hidden food stashes.
If Moira Lynch’s moral standards weren’t so high, she would have taken all that food long ago.
’Not in Sector B? Could they be somewhere else?’
’That’s right. Everyone in Sector B is on high alert now, making it difficult to strike again. If I were that person, I wouldn’t stay in Sector B either.’
Moira Lynch tried to put herself in the killer’s shoes. If she were the culprit, where would she go now?
