Terrence looked up, desperately hoping that the Golem Turtle hadn’t noticed their presence yet. But what he hoped for didn’t happen.

The Golem Turtle opened its massive rocky jaw and released a loud, high-pitched hoarse growl, sending powerful shockwaves and tremors through the ground that rattled Terrence’s entire body, even though he had already clamped his hands tightly over his ears.

"Shit..." He looked over at his Shadow Hound, his mind frantically racing as he tried to figure out what they could possibly do against such a giant, armored beast.

His breath turned ice-cold in his throat, and he could vividly feel the freezing effects of the surrounding mist creeping into his lungs. A sharp, stinging chill sensation settled at the very tips of his fingers.

They were completely exposed now, as that single roar was powerful enough to completely blow away and erase the surrounding mist. They couldn’t even use the thick fog to their advantage to hide.

Cursing angrily under his breath, Terrence sprinted to the side of the Golem Turtle to avoid drawing direct linear aggression.

The giant boulder beast raised one of its massive front legs and slammed it down with deafening force, causing severe ground tremors and sending sharp, spiky earthen pillars protruding violently from the earth, erupting directly beneath Terrence’s former location.

The Shadow Hound tried to leap in and cut off the incoming area-of-effect attack, but failed to do so in time, forcing it to focus entirely on dodging the jagged earth spikes itself.

Terrence’s eyes widened in sheer panic as he frantically searched the clearing for his contracted beast, letting out a ragged breath when he saw that it was thankfully safe.

’Just how in the world is a beast like that residing in a basic C-Rank rift?!’ Terrence asked himself, his teeth grinding together as the sheer absurdity of the situation hit him.

Golem Turtles were A-Rank defense specialist beasts. While their spatial defense was practically impenetrable to standard tamers, they also possessed terrifyingly lethal earthen offensive skills.

’Something is not clicking here. How is this even possible?’

Despite the overwhelming questions flooding his mind, he knew he couldn’t sit around waiting for an answer. He continued running in wide circles around the creature. By staying constantly on the move, he wouldn’t get instantly impaled by the sudden earthen spikes erecting without warning from beneath the soil.

The Golem Turtle continued its relentless assault, while the Shadow Hound darted forward and activated Triple Slash, hoping to inflict at least a minor injury. But it seemed like the high-speed physical attack did absolutely nothing to scratch the surface of this rock monster.

Terrence abruptly halted his run, leaning his hands on his knees as he tried desperately to catch his breath. His chest heaved painfully while his lungs tightened from a sudden lack of oxygen.

’This is shitty... I feel like I’m standing in a super high-altitude zone.’

There was technically enough atmospheric oxygen around them, but the heavy, unnatural atmospheric pressure was actively hindering his lungs from taking in a full breath.

"Buddy! Try targeting its physical joints!" Terrence yelled out, his voice raspy. "It has to have squishy, unarmored gaps somewhere in its frame! Search for them!"

Anatomically, its joints had to be similar to other heavy beasts. They were bound to be far more vulnerable than its outer shell.

The Shadow Hound immediately obeyed Terrence’s command. Blurring across the dirt, it reappeared directly on top of the Golem Turtle’s massive back shell.

The boulder giant turtle growled ferociously once more, thrashing its body violently side to side as it tried to shake the Shadow Hound off its upper frame.

But the turtle failed to dislodge it.

Finally locating an exposed gap in the shell near the creature’s neck, the Shadow Hound charged up an oversized, condensed version of Triple Slash to dig deep into the crevice. However, the underlying tissue was covered in a rubbery, tough hide that even the hound’s iron-imbued claws couldn’t pierce or scratch.

The Shadow Hound let out a frustrated growl of annoyance. Activating its Iron Skin ability, it dug its metallic paws directly into the seam, trying to pry the tough skin open by main force.

Seconds ticked by painfully, turning into a grueling minute as Terrence was forced to continually run and dodge direct targeting from the Golem Turtle, while his Shadow Hound repeatedly slammed and clawed at the back of the turtle’s nape.

Terrence continued running in frantic zig-zags, evading the rock spires while observing what was happening behind the turtle’s heavy head.

"Change targets! Try reaching its eyes!" Terrence shouted through the dust. "Pierce through them, then continue prying at that nape seam!"

The Shadow Hound leaped instantly, pinpointing the golden, dimly glowing lights of the turtle’s eyes. Finally catching a perfect physical opening, the hound adjusted its mid-air posture and dived headfirst toward the turtle’s face.

Unleashing a point-blank Triple Slash directly across the ocular sockets, the glowing eyes flickered and weakened. Driven mad by the sudden pain, the Golem Turtle began indiscriminately thrashing and attacking in every direction. Sharp earth spikes protruded faster than before, multiplying in number across the entire battlefield.

Terrence leaped violently to the side, feeling the sharp tip of an earthen spire graze his jacket as it erupted.

He gasped loudly for air, his heart hammering against his ribs after coming hair-trigger close to death.

’It’s insanely tough... but the Shadow Hound actually pulled it off!’

As the relentless Triple Slash shredded the structural toughness of the Golem Turtle’s eyes, the Shadow Hound utilized the sheer momentum of its weight combined with Iron Skin to drive its claws straight through, completely blinding their foe.

With a loud, explosive slam, a massive plume of crushed rock and dust erupted from the head of the Golem Turtle, expanding upward into a small mushroom-shaped cloud.

Terrence skidded to a harsh stop on the loose gravel, wiping sweat from his forehead as he waited anxiously for the dust to clear.

As the dense cloud dissipated a moment later, Terrence finally located his Shadow Hound’s position.

The glowing golden light from the Golem Turtle’s eyes had completely vanished, but the beast still hadn’t bled a single drop, proving that its impossibly tough inner hide was still holding up against raw damage.

’At least it’s blind now. That’s a huge advantage.’

However, the main problem remained: now what?

The Golem Turtle was still completely immune to standard physical attacks. No matter how powerful or refined the Shadow Hound’s physical slashes were, they were still fundamentally physical damage.

Refusing to back down, Terrence’s hound leaped back onto the turtle’s shoulders, relentlessly hammering away at the seam along its nape.

Another massive, hyper-condensed crescent of dark shadow particles manifested directly above the hound’s right paw, glowing with intense energy.

SLASH!

The powerful strike brought a sudden surge of hope to end this exhausting fight. Terrence held his breath, staring intently at the impact zone and praying for a decisive breakthrough.

Yet, despite the direct hit, the fight was still far from over. The shell remained intact.

"Just how absurdly tough is this thing?!" Terrence yelled out, his throat raw. "Locate another joint point on its body!"

The Shadow Hound acknowledged the order instantly. It scrambled across the Golem Turtle’s massive body like a giant shadow spider, traversing the rocky surface to inspect the underbelly.

As the hound paused, having finally spotted another unarmored gap near the neck, it suddenly froze in its tracks as a jet of highly pressurized, dark liquid sprayed violently toward its face.

Instinct kicking in, the hound twisted its body in mid-air, barely dodging the spray before landing solidly on the ground in a lowered, combat-ready stance.

"What the hell was that?" Terrence muttered, his eyes narrowing as he analyzed the strange liquid.

He tracked the source of the spray back up to the Golem Turtle’s underside, and as he recognized what was attached there, a sharp, cold smirk spread across his face.

"Is that... a parasitic beast?"

Clinging tightly to the Golem Turtle’s throat was a massive, pitch-black leech. It was roughly the exact same size as the Shadow Hound itself, firmly rooted into the rock shell and greedily sucking vital energy from the Golem Turtle.

As the realization of what was actually happening hit him, Terrence felt a sudden surge of adrenaline make his blood boil with excitement.

"Buddy!" Terrence called out, his posture straightening as he pointed directly at the parasite. "We can finally win this fight!"
