Elara Lynch led Perry Yates to a spot by the window.

On the way, it was clear the restaurant was doing great business. The first floor was packed, and even this spot on the second floor had been hard to find.

Everyone was eating and chatting, making for a lively, bustling atmosphere.

"I’ve never seen you before. You’re not from our base, are you? Why did you come here all alone?"

’The more you say, the more you risk a slip-up.’ Under the circumstances, Perry Yates fell back on her previous story.

After hearing her base had been destroyed by Xenomorphs, the owner, as expected, stopped asking questions. He dropped the subject entirely, his face filled with remorse.

"Sorry, he didn’t mean anything by it," Elara Lynch said apologetically.

Perry Yates shook her head. "I’m not angry. Sooner or later, I will avenge them with my own hands."

"Good. You’ve got backbone. I expect the base will be making a move in a few days. Want to join us when they do?"

Perry Yates wanted to refuse. ’But after saying that, I can’t really back out now.’

’Besides, I haven’t seen any trace of cards on my journey here. It seems the way to obtain them in this world is the same as in the first round of the game: you have to kill Xenomorphs.’

Just then, a large screen in the distance suddenly lit up.

Perry Yates noticed Elara Lynch’s eyes brighten as she stared, unblinking, at something behind her.

Turning her head to look, she saw a person on the screen fighting an adult Xenomorph.

The Xenomorph on the screen was two to three meters tall, its entire body encased in a black carapace. It had no eyes, but its mouth was huge and filled with sharp teeth. Its powerful tail could easily shatter a rock, and its two forelimbs were scythe-like, reminiscent of a praying mantis.

"It’s the Flame God!"

Someone in the crowd shouted.

Hearing the rather melodramatic title, Perry Yates realized the man in the video held a special place in the hearts of these people.

’Then again, it makes sense. Not just anyone can face a Xenomorph alone.’

In the video, the man charged fiercely at the Xenomorph. As he sprinted, blue flames erupted around his body.

Perry Yates didn’t pay attention to what happened next. Her attention was completely captivated by the blue flames.

’This man...’

’The information I got from the Xenomorphs was that there were no Extraordinary Abilities in this world. So what’s with him?’

But she quickly figured it out. ’My previous information had come from the Xenomorphs, but their intelligence was low. The intel they provided couldn’t be fully trusted.’

Seeing the shocked look on Perry Yates’s face, Elara Lynch couldn’t help but say proudly, "Shocking, isn’t it? The Flame God is our base’s secret weapon."

"Do you know why he can burst into flames?" Perry Yates asked, feigning curiosity.

’Could it be that people here have already broken through their Genetic Locks? Or have they developed human modification technology?’

’If so, maybe I can try to bring this technology back with me.’

"I’m not too sure about that myself. It seems even the Flame God isn’t entirely clear on it. According to what he said, he awakened this ability after killing a juvenile Xenomorph for the first time. A red light emerged from inside the Xenomorph’s body.

When he went to touch the red light, it instantly drilled into his body, and then he gained the ability to control fire.

But the Flame God also said he was seriously injured from the battle at the time, so it might have just been a hallucination. He’s killed plenty of Xenomorphs since then using his powers, but he’s never seen anything like that red light again."

After listening to Elara Lynch’s description, Perry Yates was almost certain. ’That red light must have been a card.’

As she thought about it, a strange expression crept onto her face.

’In all the rounds of this game, this is the first time I’ve encountered NPCs who can use cards.’

’Still, this is a good thing for me. At least when I use my own special abilities, I’ll have a plausible excuse.’

After dinner, Elara Lynch took Perry Yates to find a place to stay.

Because she had just arrived, Perry Yates had no money on her, so she could only borrow from Elara Lynch.

"If you want to earn Merit Points, there are two ways. The first is to find a job in the base. The pro is that it’s safe; the con is that the Merit Points aren’t great—barely enough to get by each day.

The second way is to go out on missions: hunting Xenomorphs or scavenging for supplies. Those missions usually award a lot of Merit Points, but the downside is, well, the danger."

Elara Lynch knew Perry Yates would definitely choose the second method; after all, she had witnessed her combat prowess.

"When you go on missions, it’s best to go with a squad. Don’t go alone. For the next couple of days, just focus on getting familiar with the base instead of taking missions. Here’s a hundred Merit Points. Consider it a reward for the intel you gave me."

Perry Yates took the one hundred Merit Points and thanked Elara Lynch.

For the next few days, Perry Yates stayed inside the base and didn’t go out. Life was very peaceful.

The only downside was that she couldn’t see the sun or the moon, so the energy in her body recovered very slowly. Other than that, everything was fine.

It wasn’t until the fourth day of the game that Elara Lynch finally showed up at her door.

"Tomorrow at 9 AM, meet at the base entrance. Don’t forget."

Hearing Elara Lynch’s words, Perry Yates felt a surge of eagerness. ’Finally, I can get out and soak up some sun and moonlight.’

Perry Yates currently felt like a plant long deprived of sunlight. While not life-threatening, a listless aura clung to her.

"Okay, I won’t be late."

「Day five of the game, 9:00 AM.」

Perry Yates arrived at the main gate of the base on time and found Elara Lynch’s team.

Perry Yates noticed Elara Lynch’s teammates were a different group from before, not that she particularly cared.

After seeing Perry Yates, Elara Lynch introduced the people going on the mission with them, as well as their main objective.

"Yesterday, the scouting team returned with the exact location and status of a Hive. It’s a new one, just recently built. The queen inside just laid a fresh batch of eggs, so she’s at her weakest right now. This is the perfect time for us to strike. Our mission isn’t to destroy the Hive, but to retrieve those eggs. Understood?"

The group nodded in understanding.

Perry Yates found her assigned vehicle and set off with the group.

After leaving the underground base and feeling the sunlight outside, Perry Yates instantly felt as if she had come back to life.

’This must be what it feels like to have rain after a long drought.’
