Perry Yates sat in the driver’s seat, sighing in contentment as the sunlight warmed her face.

"Humans really can’t live without the sun."

After about two hours of driving, they finally neared their destination.

Gazing at the strange structure—a mishmash of various buildings piled together—Perry Yates suddenly realized this wasn’t the same Hive she had escaped from. This one was considerably smaller.

’Looks like they found a new Hive based on my directions.’

Due to her outstanding combat prowess, Perry Yates was assigned to the first combat echelon.

The title sounded impressive, but it had another name: the suicide squad.

They were the first to go in when Xenomorphs were encountered.

However, their primary mission wasn’t to fight, but to plant bombs, create chaos, and lure out all the Xenomorphs from The Hive to create an opening for the other teams.

There was, in fact, a better way to enter The Hive: disguise themselves as captured humans. That would grant them smooth entry.

However, this plan was rejected as soon as it was proposed, for two reasons. First, not everyone who was captured would be used as a host for Xenomorph larvae.

Currently, humanity only knew of three types of Xenomorphs that could parasitize and control humans in their larval stage, but over a dozen species of Xenomorphs had been discovered so far.

To the remaining Xenomorph species, humans were nothing more than food. After being captured, they were usually either killed on the spot or had their heads bitten off while still alive.

The Xenomorphs seemed to have a particular fondness for human heads.

"This is the new Invisibility Cloak developed by the base. Putting it on allows you to blend in completely with your surroundings, but it only lasts for ten minutes, and we have a limited supply."

As a member of the suicide squad, Perry Yates was naturally issued an Invisibility Cloak.

"Remember, the Invisibility Cloak can’t completely hide your scent, so you have to be careful. Once the bombs are planted, retreat to a safe location immediately."

From the looks of it, there weren’t many Xenomorphs around The Hive. The mission seemed relatively safe. If things went smoothly, they could complete their task quickly.

Perry Yates, however, did not let her guard down.

Although she had been at the base for the past few days, that didn’t mean she had been idle.

During this time, she had subtly pried a lot of information about the Xenomorphs from the base personnel.

The Xenomorphs’ social structure was somewhat similar to that of ants.

The Alien Queen, as the supreme leader of the Xenomorph Kingdom, was the mother of all Xenomorphs. She typically lived only within The Hive, surrounded by countless powerful Xenomorph guards.

The difference was, an ant queen was only responsible for laying eggs and had negligible combat strength, but The Alien Queen’s combat power was formidable.

The moment she sensed her life was in danger, The Alien Queen would immediately switch to her combat form and become extremely aggressive.

All the currently discovered Xenomorph species also had different roles.

Take the Phase-bug Perry Yates had encountered before, for example.

The primary task of a larval Phase-bug, after successfully parasitizing a host, was to gather information and find humans. An adult Phase-bug, however, was an assassin, specializing in hunting humans.

Speak of the devil.

Just as Perry Yates and the others were about to move out, they suddenly saw a squad of Xenomorphs approaching.

They were dragging freshly captured humans.

Seeing this, Elara Lynch and the others instantly took cover, not daring to make a sound.

At that moment, Perry Yates made a slight movement with her hand. A poker card appeared in her palm, and she used it to change the direction of the wind.

Only after the Xenomorphs were completely gone did Elara Lynch and the others breathe a sigh of relief.

"Judging by their clothes, they looked like people from Base 07."

"They were probably adventurers out on a mission. No idea if they’re dead or alive. Let’s stick to the plan. We’ll save them if we can, but if not, we leave them."

’My own life is what’s most important.’

After activating their Invisibility Cloaks, Perry Yates and her team began to shimmer before their forms slowly faded from view.

’Well, they didn’t disappear completely.’

The surface of the cloaks simply changed to match the color of their surroundings, the same principle as a chameleon.

It looked like they had vanished, but they were still there. You just couldn’t see them.

Just as Perry Yates was a few dozen meters from The Hive, a sudden gust of wind blew past. By the time she realized something was wrong, it was too late. Her scent had been exposed.

The nearest Xenomorph lunged at her in an instant. A silver light flashed.

A sharp Tang Blade appeared in Perry Yates’s hand, and she slashed directly at the Xenomorph.

The Xenomorph’s head was lopped clean off. Green liquid splattered out, making a corrosive SIZZLING sound the moment it hit the ground.

Perry Yates glanced at the Tang Blade in her hand and saw that the two-star item was also being corroded. The next second, with a flash of white light, the blade transformed back into a flimsy card, its surface still showing traces of corrosion.

’It’s ruined!’

This was the first time Perry Yates had ever seen one of her cards get destroyed.

’I can’t believe the Xenomorphs’ blood is even more potent than a two-star item. I’ll have to avoid close combat from now on.’

Just then, the other Xenomorphs, hearing the commotion, charged over.

Seeing this, Perry Yates quickly put distance between herself and the Xenomorphs, drew her Spiritual Ability Gun, and began firing.

The cosmetic contacts in Perry Yates’s eyes had the functions of Analyze Weaknesses and aim-assist, so at this moment, she didn’t miss a single shot.

However, just like ants that fearlessly face danger, these Xenomorphs seemed to have no fear of death.

Even though Perry Yates had already killed so many of their comrades, they didn’t retreat. Instead, they fought with increasing ferocity.

Gradually, the Spiritual Ability Gun was no longer enough.

Perry Yates moved swiftly again, creating more distance from the Xenomorphs. Two poker cards appeared in her hand: the Eight of Hearts and the Nine of Hearts.

The higher the poker card’s number, the greater its power, while the suit represented its fused attribute.

The two Jokers were fused with the Light and Dark attributes. Diamonds represented wind, Spades were water, Clubs were earth, and Hearts were fire.

As the two poker cards were thrown, the instant they hit the ground, pillars of red fire erupted toward the sky, instantly vaporizing all the Xenomorphs charging at her.

Seeing this, just as Perry Yates thought she could finally breathe a sigh of relief, she suddenly felt something was wrong. A faint tremor ran through the ground, as if something enormous was approaching.
