Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 114: Xenomorph World 13Gavin Sawyer was disappointed that he hadn’t gotten the answer he wanted from Perry Yates.
He turned to leave, then took a satellite phone from his backpack and sent a message to his father.
[Father, she’s not opposed to trading the cards, she just isn’t satisfied with what we’re offering.]
After some thought, Gavin Sawyer decided not to mention that Perry Yates would be leaving, nor did he bring up her true identity.
After all, his father didn’t have absolute control over the base. There were quite a few radicals.
Because of the Xenomorphs, these people believed that anyone not of their kind could not be trusted.
’Even if Perry Yates is human, just like us, I know they’d never accept her,’ Gavin Sawyer thought. ’Instead, they’d try to exploit her identity and squeeze every last drop of value from her.’
To Gavin Sawyer, this was undoubtedly foolish.
After all, Perry Yates had single-handedly killed the Alien Queen that they were powerless against. Making an enemy of someone like that would be a terrible idea.
Just then, Perry Yates suddenly appeared behind Gavin Sawyer.
"If you want the cards, trade me materials harvested from the Xenomorphs."
Perry Yates’s voice made Gavin Sawyer jump.
Gavin Sawyer whipped his head around to meet Perry Yates’s teasing gaze. He fumbled with the satellite phone, barely keeping his grip, and stammered, "I—I wasn’t planning anything against you! I was just—"
Seeing his reaction, Perry Yates patted Gavin Sawyer’s shoulder, signaling for him to calm down.
"I know what you’re trying to do, so I’ll give you a chance. Just bring me materials from the Xenomorphs, and I’ll trade you the cards.
Ten Xenomorph bodies for one card. How about it?"
As she spoke, Perry Yates raised a hand, and three brand-new cards materialized, hovering above her palm.
Hearing this, Gavin Sawyer looked at Perry Yates intently. "Are you serious? You’re really willing to give us the cards?"
Perry Yates nodded. "Of course. I don’t make empty promises. But don’t even think about trying to swindle me with useless Xenomorph corpses."
"Okay, it’s a deal! I’ll tell my dad about this as soon as I get back."
"Then I’ll be waiting for your good news."
Hearing this, Gavin Sawyer started to speak, then suddenly realized something. His eyes widened. "Wait... you’ll wait for my good news? Does that mean you aren’t coming back with us?"
"I’m not going back. It’s not safe."
Gavin Sawyer fell silent at Perry Yates’s painfully blunt words.
"Then how will I find you?"
Perry Yates shrugged. "I’ll be right here."
"An Alien Queen just appeared here. It hadn’t fully matured, but the fact that it chose this place for its nest means there are no other Xenomorphs nearby.
And even though it’s dead now, other Xenomorphs probably won’t come here for a while."
’So,’ Perry Yates thought, after mulling it over, ’I might as well settle here for now.’
’Besides, the buildings here are still perfectly intact. The Xenomorphs haven’t torn them apart yet.’
Just then, another team member came running from a distance. "We... we found a large supermarket up ahead!" he shouted to the group.
Gavin Sawyer frowned. "This city’s been picked clean countless times. The supermarkets were looted long ago. What’s there to be so excited about?"
"Not in the supermarket itself," the man said, shaking his head. "While we were searching, we found a small storage room with an unbroken lock. We opened it and found it completely full of supplies."
Hearing this, Gavin Sawyer, who had been about to send his message, shot to his feet. "Are you serious?!"
The man nodded. "Absolutely. We already checked. Most of the food is past its expiration date, but it’s still edible."
In times like these, who cared about expiration dates? As long as something wasn’t completely rotten, you could eat it even if it had rolled through the mud.
"Let’s go take a look."
Perry Yates had been about to leave, but her curiosity got the better of her, and she followed them.
They arrived at a large supermarket and walked through the empty, cavernous building, heading straight for the back.
The team member led them to a very inconspicuous warehouse—no, from the outside, it didn’t look like a warehouse at all. At best, it seemed to be just a small room.
They pushed open the door, and a room piled high with all sorts of supplies appeared before them.
"Someone must have hidden these supplies here on purpose," Elara Lynch said. "This room was probably just used for general storage before."
After hearing Elara Lynch’s analysis, the others nodded in agreement.
But regardless of who had hidden the supplies, they belonged to them now.
"It’s a shame our vehicles were all destroyed in the fight," one of the team members said. "If we want to get all of this back, we’ll have to return to base and call for backup."
They could certainly find cars on the side of the road, but those vehicles were all long since wrecked and completely unusable.
In the end, they discussed it and decided that Perry Yates would stay behind to guard the supplies while the others returned to the base to get reinforcements.
No one objected to this decision—mainly because they didn’t dare.
Once Elara Lynch and the others had left, Perry Yates made her way to the roof of the tallest nearby building.
From up there, she could see half the entire city laid out before her.
Perry Yates stretched languidly. She turned her palm upward, and a golden, antique-style oil-paper umbrella appeared in her hand.
With a mere thought from Perry Yates, the umbrella transformed into a streak of golden light and shot toward the sky. Upon reaching a certain altitude, it blossomed in the air like an exploding firework.
Even in broad daylight, the golden firework was still dazzlingly bright.
This item was the Golden Spirit Illusion Feather, a new five-star item Perry Yates had created through Ascension before entering the game.
Its ability was protection. It could guard everything beneath it and could change size at will.
The Golden Spirit Illusion Feather also had two forms. The first was its physical form, where it could be held like a real umbrella. In this state, it could only protect one person at most, but it possessed Absolute Defense.
The second form was the one she was using now.
It transformed into a massive protective shield that hung overhead. In this state, it could guard an entire area while also marking and eliminating all nearby threats.
Furthermore, the more people who entered the shield, the stronger its protective power became.
’Yes, that’s right. She was about to fleece the players again. No, wait, how can this be called fleecing? It’s clearly a mutually beneficial arrangement.’
’Attracting a large number of players to act as my bodyguards and farm for cards, while I provide them with a safe place to live... how is that not mutually beneficial?’
Soon, with Perry Yates’s location as its epicenter, a golden protective shield enveloped half the city.
