Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 117: Xenomorph World 16Of course, Perry Yates didn’t actually intend to harm them.
The people and cars, all entangled in rose vines, were slowly dragged inside the protective shield. Once that was done, Perry Yates looked at Ian Usher, who stood frozen in place, and said, "Come in."
Hearing Perry Yates, Ian Usher instinctively nodded. "Oh, okay."
He then stepped inside the protective shield.
Only then did Ian Usher get a clear look at what it was really like inside the shield.
While it was still a deserted city, it had clearly been tidied up. The streets were spotless, and the sides of the road were overgrown with blooming roses and Sunflowers.
These plants weren’t confined to the soil; you could even see them on the buildings.
Roses were one thing, but this was the first time he had ever seen someone manage to grow Sunflowers in concrete.
However, Ian Usher quickly realized, ’This must be the boss’s special ability.’
As he thought about this, Ian Usher watched Perry Yates walking ahead of him.
Little did he know that as he was sizing her up, she was doing the same to him.
’Based on our brief exchange, I can tell the card Ian Usher fused with is likely a three-star card.’
’The reason I’m so certain is that his flames couldn’t do much damage to my rose vines.’
’In nature, fire is the nemesis of plants, but his flames were clearly no match for me. That’s a classic case of level suppression.’
When they reached the library where they’d traded before, Perry Yates waved her hand, releasing Isaac Sawyer and the others.
Finally free of his bonds, Isaac Sawyer still had a look of terror on his face.
’That feeling of powerlessness, of being squeezed tighter and tighter, unable to break free... I never want to experience that again.’
After gasping for breath a few times, Isaac Sawyer instinctively moved to Ian Usher’s side and shot a wary glance at Perry Yates.
Perry Yates paid him no mind. ’After all,’ she thought, ’if I don’t act strong and unapproachable now, they’ll just walk all over me later.’
"Can we talk business properly now?" Perry Yates asked them, her arms crossed, her voice low.
Only then did Isaac Sawyer remember the main purpose of their visit. The test had just been secondary.
After they returned last time, they immediately tested the effects of the two cards. They were, indeed, extraordinary.
The person who had fused with the card, in particular, had nearly been sliced up for research by the crazed scientists back at the base.
Of course, that was an exaggeration.
But while his life wasn’t in danger, he was still subjected to all sorts of experiments, treated like a lab rat with no dignity whatsoever.
News this big was impossible to keep from the radical faction within the base.
Unsurprisingly, when the radicals heard about the "Boss," their first instinct was to seize control of her.
And when they learned she wouldn’t be staying permanently—that she would leave when her time was up—they became even more desperate to squeeze every last drop of value from her.
Which led to the test just now.
But it was less a test by the radical faction and more a test by the entire base.
If the shield had been breached, or if Perry Yates hadn’t been firm enough, the tables would have turned instantly.
Perry Yates, and indeed every player in this game, would have been in danger—hunted, even.
"I just did a count. You brought a total of two hundred Xenomorph corpses. According to our agreement, that can be exchanged for twenty cards."
Hearing this, Isaac Sawyer couldn’t help but sigh in relief. ’Looks like this Boss has a good temper,’ he thought. ’She’s not angry about what happened.’
As if!
Isaac Sawyer had come fully prepared this time. But just as he was about to name the cards he wanted, Perry Yates raised a hand, and twenty cards materialized in front of him.
"Here are your twenty cards. See yourselves out!"
Perry Yates waved her hand dismissively, ready to send them packing.
"Wait a minute," Ian Usher demanded. "Shouldn’t we get to pick the cards we want?"
"That was the arrangement, yes. But not anymore," Perry Yates said.
"Why?" Ian Usher’s expression was indignant, like someone who’d saved up for a luxury item only to discover they’d bought a counterfeit.
"No reason. I’m just not happy with you lot. Is that a good enough reason for you?"
Perry Yates shot Ian Usher a provocative look, as if to say, "Yeah, I did it on purpose. Come at me if you have a problem."
’If I weren’t a person with some conscience, someone who valued her reputation,’ she thought, ’I would have been well within my rights to confiscate everything after that little test of theirs.’
’But, even if I can’t just outright rip them off, they can forget about getting any good cards.’
’These brand-new Alien Gene Cards should be a perfect match for them.’
Just then, Isaac Sawyer realized that Perry Yates wasn’t *not* angry—she had simply been hiding it.
He stepped in front of Perry Yates and apologized again. "We are very sorry for what happened earlier. Please, be the bigger person and don’t hold it against us."
At his words, Perry Yates merely glanced at him without a word, neither agreeing nor disagreeing.
"This is an Alien Gene Card. After fusion, you can choose a specific body part to mutate. The upside is that there are no attribute requirements. It’s not like a Skill Card, where once you fuse with a certain attribute, you can only fuse with cards of that same attribute from then on."
"Furthermore, these cards have no level; they grow stronger as the user does."
Hearing this, a look of pleasant surprise appeared on Isaac Sawyer’s face.
"But these cards aren’t without their drawbacks."
As a conscientious boss, Perry Yates decided she’d better explain the side effects.
’Otherwise, what if they get greedy and fuse a ton of Alien Gene Cards at once? If something went wrong, they’d come looking for me.’
’The main thing is, I still have to be here for almost twenty more days. They’d find me easily.’
"What side effects?" Isaac Sawyer asked.
"A person can fuse with three of these cards, max. Go over three, and the Xenomorph genes in your body will overwhelm your human genes. You’ll transform completely into a Xenomorph."
The words "completely transform into a Xenomorph" made Isaac Sawyer visibly flinch. He stared at the card in his hand like a hot potato, unsure whether to drop it or hold on.
In the end, however, his desire for power outweighed his fear of the Xenomorphs.
’These are just cards, not Xenomorphs. Not Xenomorphs,’ he told himself, trying to calm down.
After seeing Isaac Sawyer’s group off, Perry Yates brought out the two hundred Xenomorph corpses. Then, she called over Landon Vance and the few other players who had arrived in the last couple of days.
