Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 124: Xenomorph World 23What they didn’t know was that just as they had resigned themselves to death, they, along with their convoy, had been pulled back inside the protective shield.
With everyone now safe, two cards wreathed in red and cyan light shot out like meteors.
A moment later, a deafening explosion ripped through the air as a Flame Tornado erupted into the sky, soaring hundreds of yards high.
Even the players inside the protective shield could feel the scorching heat.
The crowd stared at the spectacle, then turned to look behind them.
There was nothing there, but they knew with absolute certainty that the owner of The Card Tavern had just intervened.
Seeing the Sunflowers and roses inside the shield, some had guessed the tavern owner’s abilities were likely of the Wood Attribute.
And Wood Attribute cards tended to be more for support.
Therefore, they assumed the owner of The Card Tavern specialized in support abilities.
But after witnessing that last scene, only one thought remained in their minds:
’Support my ass! If that’s support, then what are we?’
’The support for the support?’
The Flame Tornado raged for over ten minutes, only slowly dissipating after it had incinerated every last Xenomorph slug in the vicinity.
It had to be said, these things were truly disgusting and numerous. The entire area was covered in traces of their passage, and the ground was coated in a thick, revolting layer of slime.
Perry Yates directed the Flame Tornado to sweep the area around the shield. She was shocked to discover that the Xenomorph slugs had already completely surrounded it.
Using their own secreted slime, they had formed a perimeter. Anyone who wanted to get close would have to go through them.
Seeing this, Perry Yates threw in four more cards.
And so, a new scene unfolded around the shield: three Flame Tornados, each hundreds of yards high, began to move methodically around the perimeter. Wherever they passed, all the Xenomorph slugs were instantly incinerated.
’Have to admit, as disgusting as the Xenomorph slugs are, their drop rate is pretty decent.’
’And since these were all fresh Xenomorphs, a few one-star cards dropped in addition to the usual Alien Cards.’
After dealing with all the Xenomorph slugs, Perry Yates used Space Grass to gather up all the cards that had dropped.
Once that was done, Perry Yates recalled the six poker cards. Simultaneously, two more cards, glowing blue, shot out from inside the shield.
The moment they left the shield, the two poker cards transformed into a massive tidal wave that washed over the surrounding land, cleansing it of all the ash and slimy residue left behind by the dead Xenomorph slugs.
Once the cleanup was complete, Perry Yates began to inspect her haul.
The Alien Cards went without saying—she’d harvested over a thousand of them, all of which required further processing.
Beyond those, she had also obtained five identical one-star cards.
Corrosive Slime:
Upon fusion, the user’s body can secrete large amounts of corrosive slime, five times stronger than concentrated sulfuric acid.
"’Secrete slime from my body’s surface?’"
Perry Yates stared at the Skill Card in her hand and decided she would trade it away as soon as possible.
This was the first card she’d ever encountered that she couldn’t even be bothered to use Ascension on.
Meanwhile, the people she had rescued found themselves safe inside the shield, and a wave of relief at having survived a disaster washed over them.
The eleven players among them were especially moved to tears, because their gamble had paid off.
’Finally, it was their turn to get carried to victory! HAHAHA!!’
The new arrivals were led away by the veteran players to rest and recuperate, while Will Wyatt and his group were escorted to a temporary meeting room—the library.
There, one of Perry Yates’s... Clones was already waiting.
"You’re... the owner?" Will Wyatt asked, uncertain.
’She looks so young!’
Perry Yates nodded. "That’s right. I’m the owner."
After receiving her confirmation, Will Wyatt began by expressing his gratitude for what had just happened.
"Thank you for saving us back there."
Perry Yates waved a dismissive hand. "It was nothing."
In truth, Perry Yates had only chosen to intervene because she’d detected a large number of Xenomorph corpses in their vehicles.
She could have waited until the Xenomorphs killed them before making a move, which would have saved her quite a few cards. But after a moment’s thought, she decided against it.
’Being invaded by Xenomorphs was a miserable enough fate. As long as it didn’t compromise her own interests, Perry Yates didn’t mind holding on to a sliver of kindness.’
After exchanging pleasantries for a few moments, they got down to business.
Base One was a long way off, and a round trip would consume significant time and resources. So this time, they had gone all in, sending Will Wyatt with every Xenomorph corpse the base possessed.
But beyond that, he had also brought something that shocked even Perry Yates.
Will Wyatt pushed a box across the table toward her.
"I wonder what something like this might be worth to you, Owner?"
Looking at the simple, antique-looking box, Perry Yates subconsciously assumed it contained something like jade. But the moment her hand touched it, she felt a familiar aura.
She opened the box. A golden card lay nestled inside.
’A five-star?’
Perry Yates’s eyes widened in shock as she stared at the card.
The face of the card depicted a golden scepter radiating a divine aura.
It was a five-star item card.
Healing Wand
Rank: Five-Star
Ability: Provides continuous healing and purification to allies. The area of effect can be adjusted by the user’s will.
Closing the box, Perry Yates looked at Will Wyatt. "Why not keep this card for yourselves?" she asked, her curiosity piqued.
’This was a five-star card, after all—a top-tier item that couldn’t be bought with any number of lesser cards.’
"A single Support Card can’t solve our most pressing problem."
With that one sentence, Perry Yates understood what he meant.
’The card was powerful, but it had no offensive capabilities.’
’And right now, what the people of this planet lacked were ways to fight the Xenomorphs.’
At this, Perry Yates nodded. "This card is indeed rare, but it’s not exactly one-of-a-kind to me. So, name your price."
Perry Yates set the box with the card on the table. Her expression was cool, and she didn’t let her gaze linger on it, as if she truly didn’t consider the card to be all that important.
’While what Perry Yates said was technically true, the cost of using Ascension on a five-star card was still significant for her at the moment, so she wouldn’t do it lightly.’
’Even though she was incredibly tempted by the card before her, Perry Yates knew she absolutely could not let it show.’
