Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 126: Xenomorph World 25After Perry Yates cleared the area around the shield with a Flame Tornado, Xenomorph tracks were almost impossible to find. The players who came out from the shield had to travel much farther to hunt them.
These people walked for a long time without finding anything. Perry Yates, on the other hand, had discovered something major.
The place they were in was a city. Considering the number of people, Perry Yates had only occupied about half of it, leaving the other half alone.
And after the Flame Tornado from the day before yesterday, the other, already dilapidated half of the city was now in an even worse state of disrepair.
Perry Yates’s Spiritual Body had come here just to casually check on the situation. But a single look revealed a problem.
On the fire-scorched buildings, traces of slime had appeared.
It wasn’t the corrosive slime she’d seen before, but transparent, like the tiny trails left by a snail.
If one were standing on the ground, they probably wouldn’t have noticed these faint trails at all. But Perry Yates was using her Spiritual Body, flying through the air, and she easily spotted them with the help of the sunlight.
Looking at the trails on the ground, they formed an almost perfectly straight line. The creature’s objective seemed incredibly clear.
Perry Yates glanced at her own shield, then at the city’s exit, before controlling her Spiritual Body to follow the trail toward the shield.
Along the way, Perry Yates carefully followed the tracks. Finally, just a few dozen meters from the shield, she found it.
It was a Jade-White Snail, only the size of her palm, currently sprinting toward the shield at what was, for a snail, a blistering pace.
Perry Yates had her Spiritual Body circle above the snail and soon noticed its pair of very unusual eyes.
A long time ago, Perry Yates had watched a nature show that featured a parasite—the Leucochloridium—that could infest a snail’s body, control it, make it crawl out into the sunlight to be eaten by a bird, and then use the bird’s droppings to propagate its species.
The condition of those parasitized snails and this Jade-White Snail wasn’t just similar—it was identical.
"Identification!"
[Alien Queen—Leucochloridium, Jade-White Snail
An extremely rare, dual-parasite Alien Queen, currently in an incubation state.
This Xenomorph has a mesmerizing effect. Anyone who makes eye contact with it will be unconsciously drawn to it, then feel an uncontrollable urge to eat it.
Once eaten, the Alien Queen will rapidly absorb the energy from its human host to complete its own incubation and become a true Xenomorph.]
Perry Yates hadn’t expected that a casual search would actually lead her to an Alien Queen, and a dual-parasite one at that.
’It wants to use the players as energy packs for its incubation.’
’It might have its sights set on the shield itself, too.’
How could Perry Yates possibly let it succeed?
Seeing the Alien Queen was only a few dozen meters from the shield, Perry Yates didn’t hesitate. Her physical body, inside the shield, flicked a poker card out.
Out of respect for the Alien Queen, she used the Red Ace this time—the most powerful of all the Fire Element poker cards.
The instant the card landed, a stream of magma as thick as a fist shot into the sky. It lasted for a few seconds before vanishing, leaving behind only a black spot on the ground, along with two cards, one red and one black.
’It’s not a five-star card, but a four-star card isn’t bad either.’
She retrieved the two cards.
White Jade Shield
Level: Three-Star
Attribute: Metal
Ability Introduction: After fusion, a snail shell-like protective field will appear around the body when attacked.
Invisible Parasite
Level: Four-Star
Attribute: Parasite
Ability Introduction: Can parasitize any living creature’s body and control it.
’Hiss... This Card Ability sounds a bit terrifying.’
’Parasitizing any living creature... impossible to guard against.’
’The attribute is special, too. This is the first time I’ve ever seen a Parasite attribute.’
’I’ll put it away, put it away. Take it back and put it on the display stand.’
’Anyway, not many people can afford a four-star card right now.’
’And even if someone could afford it, they’d probably choose a custom order.’
’The ability on this card is the kind that those who want it can’t afford, and those who can afford it might not want it.’
’Although Card Abilities with rare attributes are stronger than others of the same level, there’s another issue to consider: rare attributes are rare precisely because there are so few of them.’
「Day 20 of the Game.」
At noon, the players who went out yesterday returned, their arms full.
They brought the Xenomorph corpses they had hunted before Perry Yates, their expressions like puppies waiting to be praised.
Perry Yates, naturally, did not hold back her praise.
"You did well."
Then she took out some cards for them to choose from.
As the boss, besides providing emotional validation, she also had to provide material rewards. Otherwise, why would anyone risk their lives for her?
「Day 21 of the Game.」
Since they had reached the later stages of the game—the most dangerous period—all the players chose not to go out again after returning. Instead, they reinforced the patrols around the shield’s perimeter.
However, for the entire day, the area around the shield was eerily quiet. Forget Xenomorphs, there wasn’t even a single bug.
This was not a good sign.
As players who had been through several rounds of the game, they knew that the quieter it was now, the more dangerous it would be later. It was the calm before the storm.
「Day 22 of the Game.」
Still peaceful. Nothing happened.
Perry Yates patrolled outside the shield with her Spiritual Body, but she didn’t find any trace of Xenomorphs either.
「Day 23 of the Game.」
The morning was still uneventful, but in the afternoon, a convoy of vehicles slowly approached.
They stopped a few dozen meters from the shield. Two honest-looking, middle-aged men got out of the driver and passenger seats of the lead vehicle.
"Who are you?" asked the player on patrol duty.
One of the middle-aged men said, "We’re from Base No. 2. We came because we heard you could exchange for cards here. The Xenomorph corpses we brought are in the vehicles."
Hearing that they were here to trade for cards, the wariness in the player’s eyes indeed dissipated quite a bit.
"If you’re here to trade for cards, then drive your vehicles on in," the player said.
At these words, the two men were taken aback. "You’re just letting us in like that?" one asked. "Don’t you need to inspect us first?"
The player said nonchalantly, "No need. You can just come right in."
