Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 136: Island Royale 5From the other players’ recollections, Perry Yates learned that the unlucky guy Justin Shaw had blown up like a firework—twice—was named Milo Quinn.
’What a simple, unassuming name.’
"Alright, everyone, listen up. We’re splitting into groups of three to search the whole island. We have to find Milo Quinn and get our cards back."
No one objected to the decision. They quickly formed teams on their own, since everyone was eager to get their cards back.
Perry Yates’s teammates were a beautiful woman in a floral dress and a portly older woman.
It was less like they had formed a group and more like they were the ones left over. Perry Yates was seen as a useless, freeloading shut-in, the beautiful woman in the floral dress wasn’t much different, and the older woman had already offended quite a few people the day before.
No one wanted to be saddled with dead weight, so the three of them were thrown together.
Before Perry Yates or the woman in the floral dress could even react, the older woman was the first to voice her displeasure.
"I refuse to be on a team with two little brats who are still wet behind the ears."
As she spoke, she gave Perry Yates and the other woman a head-to-toe look-over with a pair of cruel eyes, rolling them so far back they nearly disappeared into her head.
Perry Yates snorted internally. ’This woman is truly blind. If she knew she was teaming up with two Dealer Players, she’d be dying of happiness.’
That’s right. Besides Perry Yates and Justin Shaw, one of the other three Dealer Players was the beautiful woman standing right next to her, the one with long, wavy hair, a knee-length white floral dress, and seven-centimeter stilettos.
The older woman had already turned and was walking decisively toward a group of three men nearby, obviously intending to join them instead.
Neither Perry Yates nor the other Dealer Player paid her any mind. They had no intention of stopping her, simply turning and heading into the forest.
"I’m Veronica Beckett."
The beautiful woman in the floral dress introduced herself.
"Perry Yates."
Perry Yates glanced at Veronica Beckett’s feet, her expression full of admiration. She’d worn high heels before.
To her, they were no different from torture devices, yet this woman moved as if she were born in them, without a hint of discomfort. ’Truly incredible.’
They hadn’t gone far before the sound of cursing erupted behind them.
Turning around, they were unsurprised to see the older woman catching up, apparently having failed to join the other group.
The woman seemed to have completely forgotten that she was the one who had ditched them. The moment she caught up, she opened her mouth and started spewing filth.
"Kids these days have no respect for their elders. I don’t know what their parents taught them. Where I come from, they’d have been beaten to death for this kind of attitude."
Perry Yates couldn’t be bothered to deal with the woman, treating her words as hot air. Veronica Beckett, however, couldn’t take it. She spun around and shot back, "Can you shut your filthy mouth? Do you really think you own this place? Say one more damn thing and see if I don’t slap you!"
The older woman seemed stunned that such a delicate-looking young girl would curse her out to her face. She instantly flew into a rage.
"You little bitch! How dare you curse at me! Fine, I’ll teach you the lesson your parents never did. I’ll show you what it means to respect your elders!"
With that, the older woman lunged forward to shove Veronica Beckett.
And Veronica Beckett, true to her name, didn’t back down. She went right at the woman, tackling her to the ground and proceeding to beat her.
In comparison, Perry Yates suddenly felt that her own silence had been rather pathetic.
’No, I can’t be like that next time.’
Veronica Beckett slapped the older woman several times across the face, then grabbed a handful of dirt and shoved it straight into her mouth before continuing to slap her.
"Still want to run your mouth? Huh? I’ll give you something to talk about! I’ll kill you today!"
The older woman’s pained screams quickly attracted other players.
Several people worked together to pull the frantic Veronica Beckett off, but none of them so much as glanced at the woman on the ground.
After all, between a beautiful, well-dressed woman and a foul-mouthed old crone, it was an easy choice to make, even with your eyes closed.
Once pulled away, Veronica Beckett instantly shed her crazed demeanor, offering a gentle smile to the people who had intervened.
She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, her cheeks slightly flushed. "Sorry you had to see that."
"Don’t worry about it, we get it," one of them said. "Some people just need to be put in their place."
The older woman hadn’t been quiet. Even from a distance, they had heard her very clearly.
They cast a disdainful glance at the wretched woman on the ground, not a trace of pity in their eyes.
After dealing with the older woman, Perry Yates and Veronica Beckett resumed their search.
The three men who had intervened had offered to travel with them, but the women declined, saying they didn’t want to be a burden.
After all, finding the Dealer Players was the most important thing right now.
After they parted ways with the men, Veronica Beckett looked ahead. "Let’s find some food first," she said. "Otherwise, it’ll be hard to report back."
Hearing this, Perry Yates froze for a second. ’Wait, does she know who I am?’
As if sensing Perry Yates’s confusion, Veronica Beckett explained, "My initial Talent is called Retrospect. I can see events that have already happened. After everyone woke up this morning, I took a look at what happened last night... so, yeah."
Perry Yates was floored by Veronica Beckett’s explanation. ’A Talent that ridiculously overpowered actually exists?’
"Well, if we’re looking for food, follow me."
Perry Yates placed a hand on a large nearby tree, then led Veronica Beckett in a different direction.
"You can communicate with plants," Veronica Beckett said, surprised.
"I can just get a little information from them, that’s all," Perry Yates replied.
’It’s been a while since I’ve used this ability.’
Soon enough, Perry Yates led them to a patch of berry bushes.
They plucked large leaves from a nearby plant to use as makeshift baskets and began picking.
As they picked, Perry Yates couldn’t resist using a Replication Card on Veronica Beckett.
Ordinary Copy Cards can only copy Skills you see, so Perry Yates performed an Ascension on this Copy Card.
As she used the Replication Card, a stream of information flooded her mind.
Talent: Retrospect
Fusion Card: Severe Poison Fusion, Snake Transformation Technique, Extreme Poison Control, Withered Wood Silver Ring, Metamorphosis Skill, Poisonous Thorn, Poison Flow Cloud.
Items: Space Backpack, Snake Eyes, Poisonous Fang, Queen High Heels...
’So she’s a poison master.’
After seeing the cards Veronica Beckett had fused, Perry Yates subconsciously wanted to put some distance between them, but she held back the urge.
All of the above could be duplicated with Copy Cards, but a single Replication Card could only copy one item, and each Skill could only be copied once.
’The first one is a no-brainer. It has to be Retrospect.’
’Besides, I have plenty of Copy Cards—more than enough to copy every single one of Veronica Beckett’s Skills and items.’
