Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 139: Island Royale 8Figuring the time was about right, Perry Yates first rolled around on the ground to make herself look more disheveled, then nonchalantly headed toward the camp.
By the time a "weary and dust-covered" Perry Yates made it back, a tense atmosphere had already settled over the camp.
She could even hear the faint sound of crying in the distance.
Seeing this, Perry Yates impassively looked away. ’They certainly have a reason to cry,’ she thought. ’After all, they’ve lost their last pillar of support.’
Only then did these players truly realize just what kind of people they were up against.
Perry Yates watched them. ’Wherever there are people, a society forms,’ she mused. It was only the third day of the game, yet they were already showing signs of forming cliques.
If things continued like this, she estimated it wouldn’t be long before they all fell apart.
This fracturing had its pros and cons.
The pro, of course, was that once they separated, the Dealer Players could pick them off one by one. The con was that if the players became too scattered, what if one of them was missed?
After all, their mission was to eliminate all non-Dealer Players on the island.
Perry Yates pulled herself from her thoughts. She rubbed the goosebumps that had appeared on her arms and glanced at the sky. ’The temperature seems to have dropped quite a bit compared to yesterday,’ she noted internally.
With that in mind, Perry Yates slipped a hand into her pocket. When she was sure no one was looking, she pressed a poker card against her body.
Perhaps realizing that no amount of arguing would help now, the commotion in the distance quickly died down.
The crowd had lost all of their earlier bravado. They looked as wilted as frostbitten eggplants.
By now, they no longer hoped to kill the Dealer Players and claim their power, nor did they care about having their wishes granted. All they wanted was to survive the rest of the game on the island and leave with the system’s ten-million-dollar reward.
That’s right. Even if they couldn’t kill the Dealer Players, they would still receive ten million dollars just for surviving the thirty days.
The moment these thoughts took root in their minds, the roles of offense and defense were reversed.
Before, these players had been the Hunters and the Dealer Players the prey. Now, the Dealer Players were the Hunters.
Having recognized their new reality, the crowd began preparing for their survival.
However, sometimes, having too many people wasn’t a good thing. There were always some in a crowd who thought themselves clever, who wanted to contribute nothing and shamelessly enjoy the fruits of others’ labor.
Previously, with so many people and everyone’s focus on the Dealer Players, these individuals had gone unnoticed.
Now that the group’s objective had shifted, these freeloaders stood out.
Besides these lazy ones, there were others who loved to point fingers, ordering people to do this and that.
These people had clearly grown accustomed to a pampered lifestyle. Everything they said and did carried an air of entitlement, as if the entire world was supposed to revolve around them.
Moreover, they weren’t a small group—there were a good twenty or thirty of them.
It would be a miracle for such a team to survive on this island. Perry Yates could already foresee that their internal conflicts would only escalate over the next few days. It wouldn’t take long for them to fracture completely.
It was practically inevitable.
But it was only the third day of the game and the first day of their official struggle for survival, so people were still able to keep their emotions somewhat in check.
How long that control would last, however, was anyone’s guess. Their camp was completely out of food.
On her way back, Perry Yates had actually found a good amount of food, as well as various daily supplies, all of it hidden away in some concealed bushes.
Perry Yates collected all of these supplies.
Additionally, on her way back, while she hadn’t spotted any large animals, she had found plenty of venomous insects and snakes. Beyond that, she even discovered a number of poisonous wild fruits and mushrooms.
Once the sky had fully brightened, a middle-aged man named Marcus Langley gathered everyone together.
"I’m sure everyone realizes the situation we’re in. It’s only the third day of the game. If we want to survive here, we have to help each other.
The attacks these past two days both happened at night. So, starting today, we need to arrange rotating patrols to prevent another ambush. After all, we won’t get a second chance."
After speaking, Marcus Langley paused to gauge everyone’s reaction.
Seeing no objections, he continued with satisfaction, "Furthermore, I propose we divide ourselves into different groups. Everyone can contribute their own strengths, and that’s how we’ll successfully survive in this unfamiliar place..."
Perry Yates saw the man, Marcus Langley, was still trying to pump everyone up. She couldn’t be bothered to listen to his pointless speech; she had better things to do with her time.
With that thought, Perry Yates slowly approached one of the two remaining Dealer Players.
During the introductions, this player had said his name was Ronan Dunn. He was gaunt with sunken cheeks and wore a hat that covered half of his face.
In the past few days, Perry Yates had never seen him initiate a conversation with anyone, yet he was always the hardest worker.
If she hadn’t known his identity from the start, Perry Yates might have mistaken him for an honest, tight-lipped man.
Perry Yates stopped her approach when she was still three meters away from Ronan Dunn.
This distance was close enough for her to use a Replication Card.
As she used the Replication Card, a stream of information appeared in Perry Yates’s mind.
Talent: Seal
Fusion Cards: Thunder Fury, Thunderstorm, Thunder Break, Thunder God Protection, Rapid Thunder Step, Thunder Sky Break, Ten Thousand Thunders, Thunder Dragon
Compared to Veronica Beckett and Justin Shaw, Ronan Dunn’s set of cards was practically luxurious.
After unhesitatingly copying all his Card Skills and his Talent, Perry Yates began searching for her next target.
Glancing around, Perry Yates finally spotted her target in a corner.
The name surfaced in her mind: Florence Moon, female, eighteen years old—the youngest of all the players.
Because of her youth and sweet appearance, the others took good care of her. Florence Moon herself had a gentle and likable personality; she was the kind of bright and cheerful kid that adults dote on.
Perry Yates slowly moved toward Florence Moon, stopping at the same three-meter distance. She pretended to be exhausted, found a random spot to sit down, and secretly used a Replication Card.
