Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 150: Island Royale 19The rest of the people seemed to realize the forest wasn’t safe, so they fled toward the beach and ultimately disappeared into the sea.
First thing in the morning, Perry Yates told Evan Fuller and Amber Sheridan the news.
"So, you’re saying we’re the only ones left on the island now?" Amber Sheridan said.
Perry Yates hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "You could say that."
After breakfast, Evan Fuller and Amber Sheridan went to search for any trace of the few remaining non-Dealer Players. Perry Yates didn’t want to go; compared to the other players, she was more interested in the island itself.
She hadn’t forgotten what Amber Sheridan had said before—the dangers they faced didn’t just come from the Hunters.
After they split up, Perry Yates was about to pick a random direction when she suddenly froze. An instant later, she picked up her pace.
Ten-odd minutes later, Perry Yates arrived at a spot where the trees were in disarray, showing clear signs of a fight.
Standing on a branch, Perry Yates looked down. It didn’t take long for her to find what she was looking for in a patch of grass.
It was a Space Backpack card, the one Perry Yates had left on her Wood Clone.
The food supplies inside had nearly filled it to capacity.
The reason Perry Yates was here was that she’d suddenly sensed her Wood Clone disappear. It had vanished without any warning.
The sensation was more like it had been instantly killed.
Looking at the signs of a fight below, Perry Yates fell into deep thought.
’Wait, these don’t look like signs of a fight,’ she thought. ’It looks more like something heavy rolled over this area.’
With this in mind, Perry Yates followed the trail of crushed plants.
Perry Yates followed the trail. After several dozen minutes, she finally found a massive lake deep in the forest.
The lake was vast, so large that she couldn’t see the other side. The water was crystal clear, yet so deep she couldn’t see the bottom.
Seeing the trail disappear at the water’s edge, Perry Yates was certain the creature that made her Clone vanish was hiding in there.
Just then, a faint sound came from nearby, and a poker card materialized in her hand.
As Perry Yates tensed with vigilance, a familiar figure emerged from the bushes.
Justin Shaw!
Perry Yates didn’t make a sound. Justin Shaw’s clothes, face, and hair were spattered with fresh blood and chunks of flesh. He looked terrifying, as if he had just returned from a bloodbath.
What’s more, he seemed to be dragging something behind him.
With a cold look in his eyes, Justin Shaw leaped directly into the water.
The clear water was instantly dyed red. At the same time, Perry Yates finally got a clear look at what Justin Shaw was dragging behind him: a snake with a body as thick as a bucket.
Seeing its long body and fine black scales, Perry Yates couldn’t help but shiver.
Her small movement was just enough to rustle the leaves on her branch, making a faint sound.
"Who’s there!"
The bracelet on Perry Yates’s wrist grew searing hot. She reacted in an instant, moving from her original position.
"Don’t attack! Friendly!"
Perry Yates had witnessed Justin Shaw’s abilities before. She didn’t dare remain hidden any longer and quickly showed herself.
Seeing that it was Perry Yates, Justin Shaw relaxed. "What were you doing, sneaking around up there?" he asked.
"I wasn’t sneaking around. If we’re being technical, I was here first; you just didn’t notice me."
Then, Perry Yates gave him a modified account of what had happened to her Clone.
"So you were tracking something here, too?"
Perry Yates nodded, then paused. "Why ’too’?"
Justin Shaw pointed to the python’s corpse on the shore. "I was chasing this thing here."
He then turned to look at the boundless lake behind him and said, "I really didn’t expect to find such a huge lake on this island."
"I certainly didn’t," Perry Yates agreed.
But...
Perry Yates’s gaze swept the area. Besides the tracks she and Justin Shaw had just made, there were no other signs of animal activity.
Logically, on an isolated island surrounded by the sea, fresh water should be a precious resource. A lake this vast, with no end in sight, should have been surrounded by signs of animal activity.
Unless this place had long been occupied by a more powerful predator, one that kept all other animals from daring to approach.
Thinking this, Perry Yates eyed the lake, her hands itching to poison it. But in the end, she dismissed the thought.
There were two reasons. First, she didn’t have a large quantity of poison on her. Second, even if she did, in such a large body of water, even the deadliest poison would be diluted. Worse, it might alert the creature and put it on guard.
After exchanging a few clues with Justin Shaw, Perry Yates prepared to leave.
Before leaving, however, she placed a few Water Lotuses into the lake. As she departed, with every step she took, a brightly colored butterfly flew out from behind her, flapping its wings as it flew off to another area.
She hadn’t noticed it before, but Perry Yates was only now realizing that for such a large, isolated island, there seemed to be very few animals.
「Day seven of the game.」
Today, Perry Yates once again chose to operate alone.
Around noon, she killed a lion, which dropped a two-star card: Lion King Roar.
Just as Perry Yates was putting the card away and preparing to head back, a figure suddenly appeared before her.
Perry Yates recognized this person. It was the same one she had seen from a distance a few days ago when she first arrived.
The person’s lake-colored eyes were staring at Perry Yates—no, that wasn’t right. They were staring at the card in Perry’s hand.
Perry Yates could see the person’s craving for the card she held.
A long time passed, and the person showed no sign of speaking, just kept staring blankly at her. Perry Yates couldn’t help but grow impatient.
’This card is useless to me, so I wouldn’t be against an equivalent exchange,’ she thought. ’But this person just won’t talk. Are they waiting for me to speak first? But...’
’Why should I be the one to start!’
Perry Yates wasn’t about to indulge her bad habits.
She opened an Any Door, turned to leave, and on her way out, casually used a Copy Card to duplicate the person’s Talent and cards. A moment later, she regretted it.
Talent: Body Enhancement
Fusion Card: Scream, Echo Positioning, Ultrasound, Sound Kill, Soul Suppressing Song, Sleeping Song.
They were all sound attribute Rare Cards, but her copies were low-level.
The original owner’s cards were at least three-star, while hers were at most three-star.
’Oh well, better than nothing,’ Perry Yates consoled herself.
At the same time, she also understood why the person had been staring at her so intently. The Lion King Roar she’d just obtained was also a sound-attribute card.
