Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 151: Island Royale 20Amber Sheridan saw Perry Yates suddenly return, glanced at the watch on his wrist, and asked, "How come you’re back so early today?"
It wasn’t even mealtime yet.
Perry Yates didn’t mention what had just happened. She felt that telling Amber Sheridan about it would be like tattling.
She waved her hand and said, "It’s nothing. I just got tired from walking and came back to rest for a bit."
True to her word, Perry Yates found a spot that wasn’t shaded by the trees and sat down.
The weather was beautiful today, with plenty of sunshine.
Perhaps because she had fused with so many Wood Attribute Cards, Perry Yates particularly liked this kind of bright, sunny weather.
Just then, Amber Sheridan sidled over conspiratorially, a wide grin on his face. "Perry," he asked, smiling from ear to ear, "we’ve known each other for so long... I need to ask you for a little favor."
Seeing Amber Sheridan’s smile, Perry Yates couldn’t help but shiver.
’Just say what you want to say. Can’t you do it without that disgusting smile?’
"What is it?" Perry Yates asked.
Thinking back over their interactions these past few days, Perry Yates couldn’t find any clues.
"The food you’ve been giving us these past few days isn’t just ordinary food, is it? You said your Talent is related to food, so does that mean you can add some kind of attribute to it?"
Hearing this, Perry Yates finally understood what was going on.
’But when did I ever say my Talent was related to food? That’s clearly something you guys assumed.’
"What is it you really want? Just spit it out," Perry Yates said.
At her words, Amber Sheridan cleared his throat and said, "Well, it’s like this. Master Ford and I want to get some food from you. We’ll provide the raw ingredients, and you can name your price. How about it?"
After hearing Amber Sheridan’s proposal, Perry Yates thought for three seconds, then nodded in agreement. "Okay. As for the price, I want some animal hides. Also, I’ll take a third of the food."
Hearing Perry Yates’s price, Amber Sheridan nodded. "Deal. No problem."
After all, he had originally thought Perry Yates would make an exorbitant demand and ask for half the food. He had even prepared to haggle, but unexpectedly, she only wanted a third of the food plus some animal hides.
"This is the first batch."
As he spoke, Amber Sheridan patted his waist. A flash of light appeared, and in the next second, a small mountain of hunted game materialized in front of Perry Yates.
Seeing the shocked look in Perry Yates’s eyes, Amber Sheridan said proudly, "Impressive, right? Master Ford and I hunted all of this over the past few days. And this is just a portion of it."
"It’s impressive, sure, but you could have taken them out one by one to be processed. With this much game, if it’s not processed in time, the meat will spoil from being left out too long."
Hearing Perry Yates say this, the smile on Amber Sheridan’s face froze.
In the end, though, he listened to her and put the rest of the game back into his Space Backpack, leaving only two carcasses out.
Perry Yates and Amber Sheridan each took one carcass and began to break them down, carving off all the edible parts.
Perry Yates held up a bone thicker than her own arm and said to Amber Sheridan, "Let’s have roasted bone marrow for lunch today."
Hearing this, Amber Sheridan thought for a moment and said, "We can, but you’d better make a separate portion for Master Ford. He doesn’t like to eat things that are too greasy."
For Evan Fuller, eating was simply a means to survive. The taste of the food and such things weren’t important.
But when it came to excessively greasy food, while Evan Fuller wouldn’t say anything, his mood would always turn foul after eating it.
Hearing Amber Sheridan say this, Perry Yates couldn’t help but purse her lips and mutter under her breath, "So picky."
Perry Yates divided the meat carved from the carcasses into two portions: one for herself, and one for Amber Sheridan and Evan Fuller.
She placed her hands on the two portions of meat and slowly infused them with the energy from her body.
Ascension.
Once the Ascension was complete, the change in the meat’s quality was significant.
You could clearly see that the texture of the meat had become more defined, and its color had turned a tender pink.
Previously, Amber Sheridan hadn’t bled the animals when he killed them, so the meat had a strong, bloody smell when it was carved. But now, the smell of blood was gone, replaced by a faint, meaty aroma that even had a hint of fruitiness to it.
"So this is the meat we’ve been eating these past two days."
Although Amber Sheridan’s cooking skills were terrible—he was a complete disaster in the kitchen—when it came to eating, he was confident that few could surpass him.
The quality of this meat was even more beautiful than the most top-grade tuna sashimi he had ever eaten.
The two of them were busy until the afternoon, only stopping their work when Evan Fuller returned.
They had originally planned to eat roasted bone marrow for lunch, but Evan Fuller hadn’t come back. Amber Sheridan was lost in his delight, and by the time he snapped out of it, he was so hungry his stomach was practically touching his spine.
Perry Yates, on the other hand, still looked full of energy, likely because she had been basking in the sun all this time.
Since she had said they would eat roasted bone marrow, she couldn’t go back on her word.
Perry Yates picked out several of the largest bones from the pile, the ones that looked like they had the most marrow. She had Amber Sheridan split them down the middle and then placed them on the fire to roast.
Watching the bone marrow SIZZLE and drip oil onto the fire, Evan Fuller’s brows were furrowed so tightly you could have caught a fly between them.
He was clearly so repulsed, but the man just wouldn’t say anything. Since he wasn’t speaking up, Perry Yates just pretended not to notice.
’I went to the trouble of building the fire twice for this roasted marrow, and he’s still turning his nose up at it? He really doesn’t know how to enjoy life.’
Once the marrow was roasted, Amber Sheridan took just one bite and was completely conquered by the flavor.
And it wasn’t just the taste. A mouthful of roasted marrow went down like a gulp of the purest energy, making his entire body feel languid and relaxed.
Amber Sheridan closed his eyes, savoring this novel sensation. Regret immediately followed. If he had known how amazing this stuff was, he never would have agreed to give all the bones to Perry Yates. But it was too late for regrets now.
Evan Fuller’s reaction wasn’t as obvious, but after taking a bite, his tightly knitted brows instantly relaxed.
Afterward, the three of them began to exchange the information they had gathered that day.
More accurately, Amber Sheridan and Evan Fuller were in charge of exchanging information, while Perry Yates was in charge of eating. She had been busy all day and was exhausted.
"Perry and I were processing game all day today and didn’t notice anything unusual," Amber Sheridan said. "However, I did go down to the seashore this morning to take a look. I found some strange tracks there. They looked like they were left by a slithering snake."
"This island is crawling with venomous snakes. Isn’t it normal to find snake tracks on the beach?" Perry Yates said.
After all, Perry Yates had personally seen Justin Shaw dragging a python as thick as a water bucket.
